Q&A

Hi. I'm consider adopting a 3 year old Rottweiler from a rescue. I want a dog who will also make a good watch dog.family guardian. The person fostering this individual Rottie say s she doesn't think he'll make a good watch dog because he doesn't bark at neighbors or at people on walks. She says he's like a big puppy. Does this mean that he has no or minimal protective instincts?

Don't ever underestimate the power or protectiveness of these dogs! Rotties don't bark a lot because they tend to sit back, observe, and asess each situation before acting. If your Rottweiler barks at something, its for a reason and should be investigated. If raised with respect, rules, and love, they will give absolutely everything they have all the time.
