Q&A

I have a one year old Morkie and I haven't cut his hair. I groom him everyday. My question is regarding his comfort in hotter climates. We live in central Alberta, Canada and will be heading for southern California in June for 6 months. Will I have to cut his hair for more comfort in the hot temperatures or will he adjust to it. I really don't want to cut his hair. I've looked every where online for the answer......I look forward to a quick response...thank you.

I have a 3 year old dog who looks just like a Golden Morkie although the rescue told me he was a Maltipoo. He has a thin, silky-wavy coat. If I have him cut in a puppy cut, he looks like someone chopped him with a pair of scissors. So I keep him trimmed but long. My groomer says that because he does not have an undercoat he does not get any hotter than he normally would. Last summer he did just fine as long as he drank plenty of water.

You need a grooming table. One of the portable ones will not be that expensive on ebay. It has a rubber pad so they don't slip and slide around and a noose to hang them with. Nah, just kidding. LOL It's really a kind of slip collar to hold their head up so they can't bite or jump around and play. It's all business using one of those and it cuts way down on the time to groom. I take in dogs to socialize and I'm grooming four right now so time is important to me. However, I don't do the really long hair and my hat's off to you for undertaking it. Although Maltese look like a very prissy angels I've found they are all dog, every bit as much as a pit bull. So many times I have just brushed one and then it goes out in my yard and rolls on a dead bird or bug and is stinky all over again. Since I don't ever think of showing it is just so much easier to keep them in a puppy cut and it's so cute. I fo admire you for your diligence though it's not for me.
