Q&A

My dog, Max, is almost 6.5 years old, 5.5 lbs. He was the runt of the litter - all his siblings grew to be 10-12 lbs. Max is a very difficult personality (stubborn, strong-willed, never wants to be cuddled or held) - nothing that all the books says the temperment typically is for a morkie. He only likes me (I'm the mom) and when I'm gone he just sleeps - doesn't want to interact with my teenaged daughter or husband. He demands my attention constantly and when he doesn't get it he barks uncontrollably - then I have to put him in time out and a lot of the time with a muzzle on because his bark is SO piercing! I thought about getting him another little dog as a play mate (because I have to work away from my home more often now), but I'm afraid that if I adopt another little dog, he won't play with it. He likes other dogs and will play with them only when he's off leash at the beach (off his turf). It's become such a problem that my husband and I are thinking about finding him another home, but I'm afraid that if we do that, he will die of a broken heart. Please Please Please help - I need some answers, suggestions, comments!!!

I have a six year old male and a two year old female Morkie. Our male one hundred percent preferred my company and often ignored my husband. The first couple of weeks we had our female were long ones, our male spent two weeks pouting in another room. Once he realized what a great play mate she was he warmed up to not only her but he now seeks out my husband for an occasional snuggle. I would recommend getting a female only.

I think you should let your daughter or husband do all the feeding for awhile. You probably take care of all your dogs needs, but letting them step in your dog will come to depend on them. A dog is only trying to find their place in the pack and if he was the runt he would of had to fight for every bit of food and affection from his doggy mom, which is what he is now doing with his human mom. Hope this helps
