Airedale Terrier Question and Answer

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of DogProblems.com. Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. Many training issues are too extensive to answer in this forum, which is why I refer a lot of the load to his site.

Are Airedales good for first time dog owners? I am considering an older one because I am not sure about the time involved with training a puppy. Also I am pretty chill and am looking for a breed that is to, help please
I would say no. Airedales are extremely stubborn and if you cannot control it you will have quite a challenge. With getting an adult you would atleast skip the puppy years, but you never know what kind of dog you're going to get, and good luck trying to make it change.

My 8 month old Airedale has an all black back instead of the saddle but some of her fur is growing lighter. Does this mean she will have the saddle after all?
Thank you for the reply. I have noticed that the fur around her legs is turning brown. I have been feeding her (Bailey) 2 cups of food a day. Is that a suffecient amount?
Airedales when they are puppies are mainly black, but yes as they get older it will fade into brown and will eventually form a saddle.

My Air Head of 5 years is just now (since January) has been having skin infections. She is on WYSONG, has fish oil in the morning and night. My other one hasn't had an itch, and they "hot bunk" share beds. Any ideas?
Maybe a allergy to grains/wheat? Mine was getting welts and I changed her dog food from Grocery Store brands (high wheat content) to a quality brand, High protein.

My Airedale is almost 5 months. When he chews recently he gets a bloody mouth, it appears to be coming from the back teeth. Is this a normal part of teething or should I be concerned?
The pup is probably losing his/her baby teeth.

My 6 month old airedale is very mouthy and tends to bite when over excited late in the evening. Is this normal ?
Yes, it is completely normal. My 9 year old does the same thing. They love to play and interact with their people. Channel that chewing into something positive, so you won't come home to find half of your coffee table gone, or that your shoes have been torn to shreds.

I have a 9mo old female Airdale and her ears stand straight up whats worng??/
My Airedale is also 9 mo, and also has 'Bat ears'. It's ok, he is a bit batty himself most of the time. We're not showing, so we're not bothered.
There is a problem with the nerve in the ear. When I was a child my Airedale had one ear up and one ear down. We thought it gave her character. We wern't showing her, so we didn't care. The ears are supposed to be down. If it bothers you, then ask your vet about performing surgery to correct the problem. If you're not showing your dog, then I'd leave it be unless your vet says that it will cause trouble if the problem isn't corrected.
My airedale, Missy, is ten years old and her ears never did lay down. She is still in great health and very vibrant. She may be old but I dont want anyone else guarding my family than ''''the old woman'''''
Unless an Airedale's ears are glued when they are teething their ears will not lay down. Their ears naturally stand straight up and only lay down like the breed standard is described when the owners position them down.
