My female is 3/4BM and 1/4Rotty. She is 45 lbs at 6 mo. I figure the lower average of weight is due to the rotty genes. She has all the markings and body structure of a BM. I do not anticipate her to be more than 70 - 80 pounds at her max growth.

i have a 12 month old bullmastiff he is very good and very soft with our baby girl of 14months the problem is when we take him out for a walk and he sees anything person or dog he pulls and just wants to snith and play with them it is hard to keep hold of him he is very disobediant to no when we are out but in the home he is great can any1 tell me why thanx

I have found that if you will walk you bullmastiff with the a chocker and place it under his jaw (not chocking him) but where he can feel that it is there. He will be under your control and will not pull from you no matter what or who comes around. I have also found out that this will cause him to set everytime we stop.. If he does pull give a slight jerk and then release again.
Hope this helps.

We have a 5 month old male Bullmastiff who is so nice and adorable but very stubborn. He's extremely smart and we have been able to train him a bit already. The only problem we have is that he likes to bite a lot when we're playing with him. Sometimes he might bite us if he gets upset about being put in the crate too. Only our hands but it's still something that he needs to stop. We have tried everything, from yelping and acting hurt to saying no and putting him in the crate for a "time-out". It doesn't seem to help. Does anyone else have similar problems with their pups? I know he knows what "no" means, he's just being stubborn and testing us. I would appreciate any help!

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. I'm gonna try that ASAP. :)

On the advice of a trainer, I purchased a small size bottle of Bitter Apple. It is readily available in pet stores. My bullmastiff was also biting/mouthing way too much, only in play but accidently breaking skin and causing pain to others. During one of her mouthing episodes I quickly sprayed some Bitter Apple directly into her mouth. Be very careful not to get it into the eyes. I said "no bite" in a clear loud voice when I sprayed into my dogs mouth. It took only about 3-4 repeats and the problem almost disappeared entirely! When my dog gets excited (she is also 5 months) she sometimes starts to mouth again but all I need to do is show her the bottle of Bitter Apple and she stops immediately. What a huge difference in her now.

Hello,
I need some advice. My one year old bullmastiff female barked and growled at my 18 month old daughter the other day. Dutchess (the dog) was laying down, and my daughter did something, I am not sure what, I didnt see; that made her bark and growl. The thing is, we have had Dutchess since she was 8 weeks old, so she is very familiar with my daughter and plays with her all the time. Chances are, my daughter was trying to pull her eyelids open or look at her teeth while she was sleeping or laying down, she does this to them often. :) We have another female BM as well. She plays with them like this all the time, and they never get upset, so I am concerned. Another point is that Dutchess had just started her period and was in heat, so I am wondering if that had something to do with it?
She is a great dog, but I dont want to ignore a tendancy if that is what she has. These are my first BM's, so I am not completely familiar with their temperment.

I am getting a male BullMastiff in two weeks when he is ready to leave his mother. I have a two year old male St. Bernard who is very good natured and has an excellent temperment. Do I need to anticipate any problems with the same sex aggression male/male? I read an article stating that a male bullmastiff will attack another male dog and I am concerned about this.

Its always a good idea to watch them closely, any dominant males can cause an uprising in a once peaceful home, regardless if they grew up together! Chances are they probably wont get into it too badly but always be prepared!

Bullmastiffs are generally good natured dogs. I agree that as long as he grows up with your St. Bernard he should be fine. However an important question to ask the breeder would be what kind of temperament do the parents have because that is a trait that tends to be passed on in these dogs.

No, if the Bullmastiff grows up with the St. Bernard and learns to trust him, they will be fine. When you introduce them try to keep them in neutrul ground, away from sleeping quarters or food. And make sure the St. Bernard knows he is still top dog until the Bullmastiff grows up.

How much should my 11 month old male weigh?

I have an 11 month old Bullmastiff Zeus and he weighs 97 lbs (44 kilos) we had a visit to the vet today to have him weighed so this is via the vets scales - they vet said he was good shape and size not too skinny but ot overweight - should have a waist, should be able to feel his ribs but not see them.

We have a year old Bullmastiff who started develping crusty rashes on his skin and losing small patches of hair about 4 mos ago, we brought him to the vet, who ran tons of tests for mange and other infections which all came back negative. She had asked if anything was new to the diet or environment he's in and we couldn't think of anything. We gave him all the allergy and skin pills she gave us in peanut butter as everyone recommends and the rashes flared up, turned out we had started him on some new PB treats and thats what it was a PEANUT BUTTER ALLERGY! Has anyone else heard of this typical to the Bully breed??

I have an 11month old bullmastiff male, healthy and active weighing in at 100lbs ; is that the norm/average ?

The AKC states the normal Bullmastiff should be 110-130lbs full grown. However there isn't a standard to compare year-old dogs against, if your Bully appears to be healthy and active chances are he's normal weight. There are going to be males who are only 75 lbs at a year and some like ours who was 135lbs at a year (both can be considered ideal based on lineage). Typically they will continue to grow even beyond two years, at a year he should be showing max height but will continue to bulk up with muscle. Happy feeding!!

I presently have a 9 year old springer, who is very babied but usually get along well with other dogs. I am concerding adopting a 9 mon. bullmastiff. Do I have to worry about them getting along?

As long as you introduce them properly, they should do fine. I would be more worried about your springer getting along with the Bully rather than the other way around. We have a 14Mo old Bullmastiff who is best friends with our Maltese!! We introduced them when he was 3mos and the maltese was 6yrs, she was very upset with us at first but took to him almost right away. Just be sure to allow for time apart especially in the beginning, and keep in mind the pack mentality that they often work things out on their own. Bullies are known for being great with other dogs and people, but the more you find out about the new dog, the better. You know your springer, so trust your instincts!

Ok this is a simple question my bully was underweight i have started to give him a pint of full fat milk everyday aswell as 3 kg's of dry food every couple of days he gaining weight now but i want to no if the milk is doing him harm?

what sort of milk are you using? dogs can't digest cows milk properly. Goats milk is much better and will also help more with theweight gain

what would the average size of my female bullmastiff be at the age of 6 months

are you sure its a bullmastiff and not an English Mastiff!?!?!?

my bullmastiff is 7 month and 4days old weight 54,6 kg is 120,1 lbs
lars from holland

My "little" girl is 105lbs at 7.5 months

The best guide to go by for a male bullmastiff is 10lbs for each month of life plus 10lbs (give or take a few lbs). At 5 mos he should be 60lbs (50 +10). At 6 mos he should be 70lbs (60 +10) At 7mos he should be 80lbs (70+10) and so on. My boy is 6mos and three weeks and weighs 82lbs. At seven months he should be around 84lbs. He is a shade above the average, but his parents were large (mom 125lbs / dad 140lbs). I have charted his growth rate and he averages 3 lbs per week, sometimes 2lbs, sometimes 4lbs.

Our boy is 5 months and 70lbs. He'll be a giant. :)

Our boy is 6 months and 60lbs. The vet says he is healthy.

Mine is 79lbs at 8 months and was 59lbs at 6 months.

Mine is 9 mo. and 75lbs

Mine is 6 mos. and weighs 70lbs.

Mine is also 6 mths and is 48 pounds.

mine is 45 pounds right now and the vet says it will be 100 pounds

I have a beautifull 9mth old bullmastiff, but i think he might be a little smaller than what he should be, can u please tell me what the average weight and hight is for a 9mth old puppy, thanks

Not sure. Mine is from a litter of 11, which i think makes a diffrence. I keep thinking my boy is on the small side at:
9mo. old
75.4lbs.
23" at sholder

20 to 24 inches
30 to 45 kgs

hi i have a 7 month old male bm he weighs 92 pounds but looks kind of slim he eats lots buy runs alot he is very active does 92 lb seem right?

I have a 6 month male bull mastiff that weighs 90 pounds.

I have a bullmastiff named Hunter that is 7 months old, and even at birth he was larger than all his siblings. At 7 weeks old he was 17.5 lbs when we got him. He is held to a strict diet of his SD large breed puppy low-calcium diet at recommended or less servings. He gets his SD dental treats and no table scraps allowed. He was just weighed for his heartguard and advantix, and weighs in at an athletic 109lbs. He is not fat, the vet thinks he is in excellent shape. There are good basics to work with, but some dogs are genetically larger and grow faster. If your dog looks too thin, then increase his amount of food. If he looks heavy, with little or no definition...give him less food and more exercise. If he/she looks athletic and well defined, they are most likely getting the right balance of food and exercise. Remember to avoid heavy stress to the dogs joints as he grows. Joint supplements if you can afford the little bit extra also help as well.
Large breed dogs are known to grow "irregular". So a base line is a good place to start, but keep in mind each dog is different and will have to use some personal discretion in deciding where your dog is at in relation to the base line.
Good luck.

Be sure to check out his lineage if that information is available to you. If he came from a sire and bitch who were both large examples of the breed, his being 92lbs may be normal for that blood line-for example one of our Bullies was easily 80lbs at 9mo and is very healthy now at 2 yrs, with no growing pains. Some breeders may say to cut back on the food, but it sounds as though your Bully is active enough to handle the recommended amount food your brand suggests, just be sure to break feeding down to twice a day and not all at once.

92 lbs at 7months is over weight you should cut the food back. Don't be in a rush to make him big this will cause problums for him in the future if they are over weight. Keep your bullmastiff on a diet and he will be health and will most likely live longer.

what people seem to forget is that these "giant" breeds grow much slower then an average sized dog. feeding 5 cups of food at one sitting is far to much food to put into the stomach. do a little research on bloating and you'll understand why. with these "giant" breeds several smaller meals through out the day is the general recommendation. these dogs can grow well past 2 years of age, the important thing is to provide high quality foods, high in protein.
~and also lets not forget that although these dogs are heavy boned, they're going to have to keep carrying that 100+ lbs into their geriatric years, not every bully is meant to weigh in at 140lbs. a slim athletic build is not always a bad thing.

I have a bull mastiff he is 22 mths he has boils on both of his hind legs what can i do about them and what causes them

I have a BM he is 8 months old. His back is 35 cm. And the front has not caught up yet. Im concerned with his back and hips. Is that normal to be that tall and he cant stand for long. He would rather lay down. He eats 2 meals a day 5 cups in the morning and 5 in the evening. He's not over weight. He looks under weight in the back. In the front its fine. By his tale the bones are sticking out. Im wondering if thats normal or if he has hip problems. He doesnt like to sit for long either.

my bullmastiff is 10 months old and his bottom jaw is covered in boiles and are starting around the top of his mouth what can i do about this?

Hey we have a bullmastiff aswell and he would also get puppy acne around his mouth. I would wash his face with a cold facecloth & just put a little bit of witch hazel on a makeup removal pad and apply it to his acne (boils). We did that together in the morning I use it as a toner after washing my face and it was awsome how fast it cleared up the dogs face maybe thats why I don't have acne myself :)

Our 11 month BM had the same issue. For him it was acne. Our vet told us to use listerine and swab the area 2 times a day for 2 weeks. It cleared up right away.

possible allergic reaction to his dog bowls.... Use only stainless steel bowls - NO ceramic or plastic... will take a few weeks to clear up.....
