English Bulldog Question and Answer

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of DogProblems.com. Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. What should a 12 week old English Bulldog weigh?
Post Response
Why would my english bulldog have hard white stools all of a sudden. No diet change, drinks plenty of water.
my dog had that from eating too many tums...something about tums being high doses of calcium...

How much should I feed my 6 month old male bulldog puppy? At his last weigh in he was 36 pounds and the vet said he is right were he should be. We Merrick puppy plate and he gets a little more than 1 1/2 cups a day right now. Should we be giving him more? If so, how much? We don't want him to become overweight. He is very active.

My 5 1/2 month old bully has a "floppy" ear. No matter how many times we've glued it it just does not seem to want to stay in the rosebud. The other ear is fine. Is there anything else that we can try?
Post Response
My bulldog puppy is 4 months old and walks like he does not have much strength in his back legs. He will run and play but is clumpsy and falls down alot. Is this because he is still so young or should i have him checked?
Post Response
Our 10 wk old puppy has all of a sudden started getting black spots all over her body. Will her spots go away or are they a result of something she's alergic to? Does this mean that she might end up almost brindle in color?
is your dog white? bulldogs have those spots, but it becomes more apparent in white bulldogs because of the color of the hair.

My 5 year old english bulldog's bottom seems to itch really bad she is always rubbing her bottom on the floor or on our shoes. She has been fixed.
it could also mean roundworms.. my puppy had that and would rub his bottom frequently on the grass and carpet
it may due to dry skin. i have many bulldogs and i breed. try mixing aloe vera with water and rub through the dogs coat that will help with dry skin
It could be a sign of a female infection. I would make a trip to the vet.

How much should my 3 month old standard english bulldog weigh?

My english bulldog is 10 months old and recently had her first season. Now her nipples has become very sensitive and she scratches them alot along with dragging her bottom along the ground which is becoming very red. She is wormed reguarly and cleaned with warm water on a daily basis any ideas what might be causing this?
I would look into getting some blood work done for your puppy...also focusing on yeast levels of the skin. Mine too started off with skin irritations which seemed closer to a skin allergy for most of his life. Bulldogs unfortunately can be plagued with skin problems...left unchecked can turn into very serious issues the older the dog gets. I hope your puppy gets better!

We have a 10 month old male that is not fixed. We are thinking of rescuing another male that is 8 months. Will there be a problem having two male bulldogs that are not fixed in the same household. And how will my little guy react to someone else on his territory? Any thoughts

what is the recommended tempature to maintain household indoors with a/c. We just adopted a 6 week old male and my roommate is insistant that the vet stated to keep the house at a constant tempature of 72 degrees. We live in florida but I already have $300.00 electric bills. I would think 76-78 would still be sufficient to keep the pup healthy and be more concerned about outdoor intolerance?
as long as the house is not hot, and the puppy is not breathing funny, he will be ok. I live in canada, we can have very hot summers, and I keep cold water, and a little kids pool for mine to lay in if he gets to hot. also mine likes to eat ice cubes. if you start now with the ice, they wil eat it when they get to hot. good luck with the puppy, they are wonderful pets.

My Bulldog is 4 months old. He does not really resemble an English bulldog. I have seen the parents and they are both full blood english bulldogs. Do these features develop over time?
my english bulldog looked like a pug when i first got him, now he is 8 months and all of his bulldog features grew in

I have a 13wk bully that is a loner, does not want to be held at ALL, uses us as a human chew toy, doesn't come when called, an has started to grawl when I try to get him to do things...is this normal..I want to cuddle with him so bad...what can I do to turn this around..HELP
my bulldog is 8 months old, and is exactly like that. all he wanted to do at first is play by himself and chew on everything, especially my hand. now, he still doesnt like to cuddle, unless it is bed time. bulldogs have very stubborn personalities and it takes them a lot of time to adjust to their surroundings. they are wary of strange surroundings and new people. make sure to remain firm with his training and make sure you let them know that you are the BOSS. my bulldog didn't come when i called him, just would look at me and sit there, but now when i call him and kind of squat down, he comes running because he recognizes that i am calling him.
sounds like the breeder did not interact with the pups and they are not use to human contact. just keep working with him and he will eventually come around
have you watched the dog whisper? he always has the person take a the dog for a walk everyday maybe if you do this first than try to work with him on getting more friendly. it has worked with mine. we walk her everyday but not to far only little walks than we work with her on sitting and lay down, she has become very friendly and sleeps by my bed on a doggy pillow. she is 6 months old and I can take her to work with me because she will be good and just sit by me. we take her every place we can and have all the time we have had her. good luck hope this helps!

What brand of dog food do you recommend for less gas?
if you go to a good pet store they will give you good advise on what food is better but Ive found that the no grain foods are good for the dogs hair, or a raw diet (meat)only. dont feed dry pellets with canned food together. its simple the dry food digest slower than the wet food and causes gas in the digestive track. what i find works is not to mix the food but portion it out like i was feeding my kid only 2-3 spoons of wet food so they dont get spoilled and not eat dry kibble. lastly dry oatmeal like a dry cereal on top of the food daily. oatmeal naturaly calms the stomach and is great for their hair less shedding and less farting i feed oatmeal by the cup daily and i have two dogs i dont get any farting very rearly unless they must poop good luck
Wells Science plan is a very good dog food and i have found that it has reduced our bully's gas.
I was told to put water in the dog food, it will help the food to not give your dog gas. but if you have a bull dog it's just part of there crazy side. good luck

i purchased a 2yr oldmale E.bulldog, He is great!when commanded to get in his kennel he obeys but when we go to lock the door he GROWLS/SNAPS at us, what should I do & what could the cause be?
time for you to watch the dog whisper on tv sound like you need to not lock the door for a while and work with this puppies head. is the dog kept in for long periods of time? do you walk your dog everyday? this always seems to help with behavior problems. good luck

I have a 1 1/2 year old female who just had pups from a different breed, i concern about her health, what should i do, for her?
first get her fixed. the vet should be able to tell you some good vitamins to help her stay healthy, I think it's really hard for them to have lots of puppies, that is if you want a sound pet. make sure she has lots of water in her bowl so she can take care of these puppies and if you get a chance send me pictures. shellyripplinger@hotmail.com I have been looking for another puppy I have a female she is 6 months old. thanks and good luck

I have a 1 year old bulldog. A few months ago she fell ill and could hardly walk, refusing to eat and started walking very delicately on her back legs with a high temperature. I have read that bulldogs do encounter hip/joint problems as a result of growing pains. Our vet did a full blood analysis and prescribed antibiotics, but her condition has not improved. Does anyone have experience with this health condition?
Post Response
im desperate for a bulldog however the only problem is i work during the day (mon-fri 9-5) if exercised well at night would this be a problem?
i disagree im a breeder and have many as pets. keep your pup in a kennel or area that doesnt have carpet. feed and water befoer you go to work then take dog out to do his business then do not leave food or water while you are out. bulldogs can be active dogs. one of my females runs with my labs and is very active. they adapt to your life style
to start with they can't take lots of exercise. but I think it is hard on any dog to be left alone all day. Mine goes to work with me & every place I go, I do have a doggy door but after reading I have learned that people will steel them right out of your yard. so you want to be very carefully you might get things chewed up & the puppy would pee on the floor with out you having time to train it. this breed needs to be around people to be friendly and balanced.
Exercise is not a massive problem its the companionship it needs, if you can call home at lunch time to let it out to the toilet is shouldn't be a problem. However, they can become bored and depressed.

I am purchasing a english bulldog puppy. Breeder says at 7wks she is 6lbs. Is she a normal weight?
thats a little under weight for that age. mine are 5 weks and weight 7lb. maybe they are not feeding her proper diet
yes thats normal for a 7wk. anything more expect a giant.
Post Response
how do i stop the gas problem my english bulldog has? its killing me!!
both of my bullies have been on a raw diet for the past year, and the gas probem is completley gone! It is the grains that cause the gas
Feed it a dog food with less corn and grain by-products. This is hard to digest. Find one with more meat, this will also cut down on bowel movements plus it will eat less because it will digest it better

I just got a english bulldog and her ears stand up like a french bulldog is that normal ? People keep saying her ears will come down is that true?
sounds like you have part french bulldog. did you get papers with it? look up the french bulldog and see there ears
no that is not normal and more than likely the will not go down. Bulldogs should have a rose bud ear (fold in the rear of ear) according to the AKC standard. There are some Bulldogs that have large ears. do not have the fold or they stand up more than they should. That has to do with the breeding and bloodlines of your puppy.

My 6 week old Bulldog pup has a Faulty Tail that is pointing striaght up. I would like to know what is the proper prcedure to correct this problem?
I purchased a champion sired male years ago that had a gay (flag pole) tail and I felt really sad about it and even had surgery done and thought it was going to work but at 6 months or so it popped up again. I had to find him a pet home and start over as I was going to show and knew that wouldn't do. If that is all that's wrong with your bully kiss him and let him be your wonderful pet.

my 11 month bulldog weights 70lb is he overweight?
My male bulldog is 42 lbs at 6 months of age. Any guesses as to his full grown weight and when he'll reach it?
There is a huge different between an Old English Bulldog and an English bulldog. Pure English Bulldog should not weight more than 55-60 lbs
I have a 1.5 year old male bulldog and he weight 73lbs. He is very healthy and plays daily. He is hard to keep up with at times. I think it just depends on bone structure and size of parents. His dad is 75 lbs.
My bulldog Sarge is 18 months and weighs 80lbs. He gets exercise and plays daily, I think some are just bigger, but doesn't mean their automatically unhealthy.
My 1 year old bulldog is 77lbs and healthy. The vet said it is determined by thier bone structure.

how many do they have per litter?
5 to 7 is average. i had a litter of 8 then litter of 9. make sure you keep pups rotated on nursing if you have large litter
It's depend from genetics. Ask about it your dog breeder, mother breeder, grendmother breeder. Usually 6-7. My dogs coming from 8 and 9 puppies litter.
My bulldog had only one and for some weird reason she came out with a brown nose ... anyone would know why?
My bulldog always has from 3 to 5 puppies.
Approximately 2-6 pups. Although my English Bulldog female just had a litter of 7 puppies last week.
