I have an 18 mth old bulldog and recently his eye looks very sore especially the corner.it is red and swollen. I have taken him to my vet who seems to think it is nothing to worry about and has given him drops which is not working. I am getting worried and starting to think it could be cherry eye but have no idea what this looks like. any suggestions

I am looking at getting a english bulldog, how much should a male weigh fully grown? female?

I have a english bulldog pup that is 3 1/2 months and weighs 11lbs. Could he be considered a miniature?

I think he could be, my bully is the same age and weighs twice that much, I would double check with the breeder or pet store about the size of the parents.

Hi i have a 16 month old, Old English Bulldog. he has recently lost quite a bit of weight from his back end, and is now really slim there, just in front of his back legs, he has been castrated but i havent changed his food or his routine and he has no problems pooping or peeing. Any suggestions on why this may happen?, i have had a couple of people suggest things, 1 was worms, but he is up to date with worming treatments and another is that this is quite normal for these dogs to become streamlined but i cant see anything to support that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am considering adopting an english bulldog and was wondering whether there i any noticable difference in temperment between a male or a female?

Can some one help me with what I should do about my Bulldogs odor? I can't get rid of it! I give her the best food.

I had the same problem with mine years ago and then I discovered Malaseb Shampoo (which is not sold anymore but your vet will have an equivalent-it is an anti-fungal/anti bacterial shampoo-they also sell something similar at PetSmart-the vet department, you have to ask for it). The stuff should be called "stink be gone", it worked/works wonders.
As someone else has already told you-clean the skin folds daily, clean the ears regularly too as well as the tail pocket. These dogs get yeast problems very easily.

Also, make sure you clean the folds in their skin (wrinkles) frequently, everyday if possible. Odor-causing bacteria build up quickly in these folds, and cleaning them often, with a balanced diet and regular baths will eliminate most odors.

i would recommend a waterless shampoo, u can get it at any petshop or at a pharmacy and on petmeds. dont bath her to much because it can dry out her skin and cause hot spots. and loss of fur. we feed out bulldog pedigree and bath him about 2 times a month and wash him with johnsons baby shampoo with lotion. and in then in a few weeks we will spray a waterless shampoo on him to take the odor away.

My 7 month old Male bulldog is 36 lbs. Is that normal? How much do you think he will weigh full grown? I just had him fixed yesterday

sounds fine my english bulldog is 6 months old and weight 15.2 kilos he was born 19th of the month, so he sounds fine i wouldnt worry

hello i have a english bulldog that has just tuned 4 months old and he weighs 23.5 pounds. so that is completely normal that yours weighs 36 pounds. getting him fixed will mostl ikely make him gain weight as well. any other questions just post and i will try to answer them.

I have acquired a bulldog and am looking for the best ways to take care of her. I have changed her dog food and she has lost some weight. I am now wondering what is the best way to take care of her odor? It's mostly in her stomach area. Any suggestions would be great.

My Bullie's nose is really rough and jagged. What is the best thing for me to use to help her out?

Vaseline will work also.

Try using Vitamin A and D ointment.

I have a 11 week English Bulldog, that weighs 7lbs doesn't walk straight/shakes and constantly sleeps. It doesn't seem normal to me, what do you think?

Hi. I breed English Bulldogs in WI. I have been sucessful in breeding healthy, quality beautiful bullies. Wostalenglishbulldogs.weebly.com. I would be concerned if my 11 week old weighed that little if it is pure English Bulldog. I have 12 week old pups and they are 18-24 lbs. The pup should be full of wrinkles, active for a bit then sleeping. At 11 weeks the pup should be good on his feet and running around. Visit a vet!

It's very normal for Bulldogs to sleep about 17 hours a day. If it shakes and doesn't walk straight, take the dog to see a vet.

Should I give my English Bulldog a all raw meat diet?

No. Uncooked meat is bad for dogs and could cause upset tummies. Here is a fun fact you might wanna know.Dogs will sometimes eat grass to settle their upset stomachs.

Absolutely not. Uncooked meat can potentially contain a significant amount of bacteria. Also raw and uncooked meat can cause diarrhea and serious digestive problems. Ask your vet or a pet professional about specific brands of dog food that are made especially for bulldogs.

My english bulldog is 17 months old she had her first heat at about 8 months and it didn't last for too long and it was really light...Now she hasn't had one since then... is something wrong with her?

Bulldogs have their first heat between 5 and 11 months but on average it is more like 6 to 9 months. They can also have what's called a silent heat where they show no signs but go through the cycle.

How would a 4 year old english bulldog male react if I brought an 11 month female english bulldog into my home?

They would probably play together, you just have to try it.

Is it true that English Bulldogs can not breed natrually and have to be artificailly inseminated?

Most bulldogs are artificially inseminated. They also have c-sections.

No, they can breed naturally like any other dog. They are only artificially inseminated if they can't perform the job for some reason.

I have 4 month old English Bulldog and he weighs 35 pounds is that pretty normal?

Keep in mind there are several body types of bullies. I think the 2 most common are "show standard"-short, smaller head, nose set in more and what I call chicken legs, then there is a musle, alittle taller, maybe a bigger head body type. I have both body types and personally feel the more muscley one is more healthy with breathing and hips. Depending on the body type, bloodline and dogs make up weight on an english bulldog can vary. Keep in mind there are mini bulldogs which weigh even less. The best person to ask would be your vet or even the breeder. Good luck and have a bullie day!

I have a 4 month old english bulldog and he weighs 40 pounds since we got him at 11 weeks hes gained 10 lbs each month at 11 weeks he weighed 20 pounds

I have a 8 month old girl and she weighs 47 lbs so thats about average :)

My 6month old is over 45lbs....when he was 10weeks he was 11lbs....He steadily put on 5lbs a week for the first month we had him.

mine just turned 4 months and he weighs 25 lbs.

That is pretty big. I just bought a 4 month old bulldog and he is only 16 pounds.

Wow! That's huge! I have a 6 month english bulldog, she weighs 22lbs.

When will my bulldog go in heat for 1st time and how much should she weigh at 10 months?

My bulldog didnt have her first heat cycle until she turned 1 year old and then after that it was 8 months later.

What should a 12 week old English Bulldog weigh?

My female bully who is 14 weeks, weighs about 22 lbs.

Mine is a male he weighed 18

The average weight for a 12 week old EB is a little over 15 lbs.

Why would my english bulldog have hard white stools all of a sudden. No diet change, drinks plenty of water.

my dog had that from eating too many tums...something about tums being high doses of calcium...

How much should I feed my 6 month old male bulldog puppy? At his last weigh in he was 36 pounds and the vet said he is right were he should be. We Merrick puppy plate and he gets a little more than 1 1/2 cups a day right now. Should we be giving him more? If so, how much? We don't want him to become overweight. He is very active.

My Bully is 7 months. He eats 2.5 cups per day. Split in 2 meals. He eats Blue. Which is wheat and Gluten Free. He gets a few small low fat treats which are also wheat and gluten free

Our pup is 6 months and he gets close to 4 cups of royal canin a day.

My 5 1/2 month old bully has a "floppy" ear. No matter how many times we've glued it it just does not seem to want to stay in the rosebud. The other ear is fine. Is there anything else that we can try?

My bulldog puppy is 4 months old and walks like he does not have much strength in his back legs. He will run and play but is clumpsy and falls down alot. Is this because he is still so young or should i have him checked?

Hi. I would get him checked out. He could have loose hips or dysplia.

i would recommend getting him checked . my 4 month old bulldog plays and gets around great with no problem so he should be getting around ok by now . although they are clumsy dogs.

Our 10 wk old puppy has all of a sudden started getting black spots all over her body. Will her spots go away or are they a result of something she's alergic to?
Does this mean that she might end up almost brindle in color?

is your dog white? bulldogs have those spots, but it becomes more apparent in white bulldogs because of the color of the hair.

My 5 year old english bulldog's bottom seems to itch really bad she is always rubbing her bottom on the floor or on our shoes. She has been fixed.

It could simply be the anal glands need expressed. The way a dog does this naturally is rubbing their behind off the ground. If this persists, have your vet or groomer express them. Ic could also be the tail, if your bully has a coiled tail, it can become itchy make sure to clean deep into the tail pocket.

All types of dogs have glands on their behinds that do become dry at times ie the itching or rubbing across the floor or top of shoes, it would probably be best to talk to your vet about this problem he or ahe will have the beat treatment for the problem.

it could also mean roundworms.. my puppy had that and would rub his bottom frequently on the grass and carpet

it may due to dry skin. i have many bulldogs and i breed. try mixing aloe vera with water and rub through the dogs coat that will help with dry skin

It could be a sign of a female infection. I would make a trip to the vet.

How much should my 3 month old standard english bulldog weigh?

my weighed 15.2 at 12 wks and 23.5 at 19 wks. the average is about 15.4 give or take a few.

My english bulldog is 10 months old and recently had her first season. Now her nipples has become very sensitive and she scratches them alot along with dragging her bottom along the ground which is becoming very red.
She is wormed reguarly and cleaned with warm water on a daily basis any ideas what might be causing this?

I would look into getting some blood work done for your puppy...also focusing on yeast levels of the skin. Mine too started off with skin irritations which seemed closer to a skin allergy for most of his life. Bulldogs unfortunately can be plagued with skin problems...left unchecked can turn into very serious issues the older the dog gets. I hope your puppy gets better!

We have a 10 month old male that is not fixed. We are thinking of rescuing another male that is 8 months. Will there be a problem having two male bulldogs that are not fixed in the same household. And how will my little guy react to someone else on his territory? Any thoughts

what is the recommended tempature to maintain household indoors with a/c. We just adopted a 6 week old male and my roommate is insistant that the vet stated to keep the house at a constant tempature of 72 degrees. We live in florida but I already have $300.00 electric bills. I would think 76-78 would still be sufficient to keep the pup healthy and be more concerned about outdoor intolerance?

we have a male and we have kept ours at about 72-75 since we have had him. be careful not to get it to hot the are known to overheat. good luk with your new pup they are wonderful animals.

as long as the house is not hot, and the puppy is not breathing funny, he will be ok. I live in canada, we can have very hot summers, and I keep cold water, and a little kids pool for mine to lay in if he gets to hot. also mine likes to eat ice cubes. if you start now with the ice, they wil eat it when they get to hot. good luck with the puppy, they are wonderful pets.

My Bulldog is 4 months old. He does not really resemble an English bulldog. I have seen the parents and they are both full blood english bulldogs. Do these features develop over time?

my english bulldog looked like a pug when i first got him, now he is 8 months and all of his bulldog features grew in

i am buying a puppy in a few weeks and the breeder tells me that he is not walking properly yet the puppy is 7 weeks old and by himself. Is this normal?

If you have not brought him home yet, I would question the breeder and have them pay for a vet check to verify everything is ok. If the breeder is a good one, they too would be concerned why a 7 week old pup isn't running around and playing with litter mates. Get something in writing but I would try to clear it up before you bring the pup home because the breeder might not be willing to help you after.

it is not normal for a 7wk old pup to not be up running and playing i hope they gave you a health guarantee.

may check with your vet for masitis

I have a 13wk bully that is a loner, does not want to be held at ALL, uses us as a human chew toy, doesn't come when called, an has started to grawl when I try to get him to do things...is this normal..I want to cuddle with him so bad...what can I do to turn this around..HELP

In fact, I almost want another like him - I have a new one who is 8 months soooo cuddly but just seems dumb. But I am sure she will come around. I have to remember all the time I put into him and you don't 10 years of relationship in a month - she was 7 months and not socialized either. But cuddly at least.
FOOD REWARD woeks great - go to a trainer who knows operant conditioning REALY REALLY well --not just any petsmart class. A clicker trainer would be good. I use "good dog" rather than the clicker - makes more sense to me. eventually the food reward is fed at a variable ratio and then less and less and finally "good dog" is all the reward you need. My dog learned to stay with me, Stop meant absolutely put the breaks on. He learned 3 levels of COME - Later in life he used 4 barks and 4 levels of touch to tell me things. He was smart. Watch what your dog does and what he means and follow through.

I had a male puppy that did not look at me or want to be touched or held. I worked with him 2 or more hours every day - started walking and trying to lightly massage him. He just hated the touch. I started using lots of food rewrd to get him to oriet to me and look at me. Started wearing treats in a fanny pack. He ended up being the smartest dog I ever had. But he never let me hold him and he rarely let me pet him and he certainly did not want to snuggle. He liked to sit on my lap in the car while I was a passenger (not very safe).
I was going to hold him when he died but when that happened I found myself respecting his boundaries. What he would not five me in physical contact , he mae up for with everything else. But I WORKED MY BUTT OFF making that bond! You can do it but he may never be the snuggler you want.

my bulldog is 8 months old, and is exactly like that. all he wanted to do at first is play by himself and chew on everything, especially my hand. now, he still doesnt like to cuddle, unless it is bed time. bulldogs have very stubborn personalities and it takes them a lot of time to adjust to their surroundings. they are wary of strange surroundings and new people. make sure to remain firm with his training and make sure you let them know that you are the BOSS. my bulldog didn't come when i called him, just would look at me and sit there, but now when i call him and kind of squat down, he comes running because he recognizes that i am calling him.

sounds like the breeder did not interact with the pups and they are not use to human contact. just keep working with him and he will eventually come around

have you watched the dog whisper?
he always has the person take a the dog for a walk everyday
maybe if you do this first than try to work with him on getting more
friendly. it has worked with mine.
we walk her everyday but not to far only little walks
than we work with her on sitting and lay down, she has become very friendly and sleeps by my bed on a doggy pillow.
she is 6 months old and I can take her to work with me because she will be good and just sit by me.
we take her every place we can and have all the time we have had her. good luck hope this helps!

What brand of dog food do you recommend for less gas?

I breed bulldogs in WI. From experience I can say soaking the food helps but gas is part of the breed. I soak my pups food and suggest it to new owners till they are at least 4 months old. I soak all my pregnant mom's food too. Seems to help going into the tummy already full size instead of them eating too much and then it bloating up.

if you go to a good pet store they will give you good advise on what food is better but Ive found that the no grain foods are good for the dogs hair, or a raw diet (meat)only. dont feed dry pellets with canned food together. its simple the dry food digest slower than the wet food and causes gas in the digestive track. what i find works is not to mix the food but portion it out like i was feeding my kid only 2-3 spoons of wet food so they dont get spoilled and not eat dry kibble.
lastly dry oatmeal like a dry cereal on top of the food daily.
oatmeal naturaly calms the stomach and is great for their hair
less shedding and less farting i feed oatmeal by the cup daily
and i have two dogs i dont get any farting very rearly unless
they must poop good luck

Wells Science plan is a very good dog food and i have found that it has reduced our bully's gas.

I was told to put water in the dog food, it will help the food
to not give your dog gas. but if you have a bull dog it's just part of there crazy side. good luck

i purchased a 2yr oldmale E.bulldog, He is great!when commanded to get in his kennel he obeys but when we go to lock the door he GROWLS/SNAPS at us, what should I do & what could the cause be?

time for you to watch the dog whisper on tv
sound like you need to not lock the door for a while and work
with this puppies head.
is the dog kept in for long periods of time?
do you walk your dog everyday? this always seems to help
with behavior problems. good luck

I have a 1 1/2 year old female who just had pups from a different breed, i concern about her health, what should i do, for her?

first get her fixed.
the vet should be able to tell you some good vitamins
to help her stay healthy, I think it's really hard for them to have lots of puppies, that is if you want a sound pet.
make sure she has lots of water in her bowl so she can take care of these puppies and if you get a chance send me pictures.

I have been looking for another puppy I have a female she is 6 months old. thanks and good luck

I have a 1 year old bulldog. A few months ago she fell ill and could hardly walk, refusing to eat and started walking very delicately on her back legs with a high temperature. I have read that bulldogs do encounter hip/joint problems as a result of growing pains. Our vet did a full blood analysis and prescribed antibiotics, but her condition has not improved. Does anyone have experience with this health condition?

im desperate for a bulldog however the only problem is i work during the day (mon-fri 9-5) if exercised well at night would this be a problem?

i disagree im a breeder and have many as pets. keep your pup in a kennel or area that doesnt have carpet. feed and water befoer you go to work then take dog out to do his business then do not leave food or water while you are out. bulldogs can be active dogs. one of my females runs with my labs and is very active. they adapt to your life style

to start with they can't take lots of exercise. but I think it is
hard on any dog to be left alone all day. Mine goes to work with me &
every place I go,
I do have a doggy door but after reading I have learned that people
will steel them right out of your yard. so you want to be very carefully
you might get things chewed up & the puppy would pee on the floor with out you having time to train it.
this breed needs to be around people to be friendly and balanced.

Exercise is not a massive problem its the companionship it needs, if you can call home at lunch time to let it out to the toilet is shouldn't be a problem. However, they can become bored and depressed.

I am purchasing a english bulldog puppy. Breeder says at 7wks she is 6lbs. Is she a normal weight?

thats a little under weight for that age. mine are 5 weks and weight 7lb. maybe they are not feeding her proper diet

yes thats normal for a 7wk. anything more expect a giant.

how do i stop the gas problem my english bulldog has? its killing me!!

I had the same problem with my bulldog, but I went ahead and started using a raw meat diet from Darwins. Since he has been on this diet he has maybe passed gas 4-5 times in the last 7months.

We give our puppy a spoonful (tea spoon) of yogurt (Activia) every night before she goes to sleep. It works wonders for reducing gas!!!!

both of my bullies have been on a raw diet for the past year, and the gas probem is completley gone! It is the grains that cause the gas

Feed it a dog food with less corn and grain by-products. This is hard to digest. Find one with more meat, this will also cut down on bowel movements plus it will eat less because it will digest it better

I just got a english bulldog and her ears stand up like a french bulldog is that normal ? People keep saying her ears will come down is that true?

sounds like you have part french bulldog.
did you get papers with it?
look up the french bulldog and see there ears

no that is not normal and more than likely the will not go down. Bulldogs should have a rose bud ear (fold in the rear of ear) according to the AKC standard. There are some Bulldogs that have large ears. do not have the fold or they stand up more than they should. That has to do with the breeding and bloodlines of your puppy.

My 6 week old Bulldog pup has a Faulty Tail that is pointing striaght up. I would like to know what is the proper prcedure to correct this problem?

I purchased a champion sired male years ago that had a gay (flag pole) tail and I felt really sad about it and even had surgery done and thought it was going to work but at 6 months or so it popped up again. I had to find him a pet home and start over as I was going to show and knew that wouldn't do. If that is all that's wrong with your bully kiss him and let him be your wonderful pet.

my 11 month bulldog weights 70lb is he overweight?

My male bulldog is 42 lbs at 6 months of age. Any guesses as to his full grown weight and when he'll reach it?

There is a huge different between an Old English Bulldog and an English bulldog. Pure English Bulldog should not weight more than
55-60 lbs

I have a 1.5 year old male bulldog and he weight 73lbs. He is very healthy and plays daily. He is hard to keep up with at times. I think it just depends on bone structure and size of parents. His dad is 75 lbs.

My bulldog Sarge is 18 months and weighs 80lbs. He gets exercise and plays daily, I think some are just bigger, but doesn't mean their automatically unhealthy.

My 1 year old bulldog is 77lbs and healthy. The vet said it is determined by thier bone structure.

how many do they have per litter?

5 to 7 is average. i had a litter of 8 then litter of 9. make sure you keep pups rotated on nursing if you have large litter

It's depend from genetics. Ask about it your dog breeder, mother breeder, grendmother breeder. Usually 6-7. My dogs coming from 8 and 9 puppies litter.

My bulldog had only one and for some weird reason she came out with a brown nose ... anyone would know why?

My bulldog always has from 3 to 5 puppies.

Approximately 2-6 pups. Although my English Bulldog female just had a litter of 7 puppies last week.
