We have been offered a Mitzu pup, but the mother bred with her previous son. What problems could this cause for the puppy?

My eight month old Maltese has started getting black around her ears, forhead and eyes. What do you recommend?

My daughter is alergic to dogs but it seemed the Maltese did not give her any reactions. Are the Maltese known to be good for people with alergies?

We plan to get a Maltese this weekend. There is a breeder who has 2 Maltese puppies at 18 weeks old. But none of them had been given any vaccinations. Should I be concerned about it?

I agree. If the breeder didn't bother to vaccinate the puppies, I wouldn't bother getting a puppy from him.

Yes, I would be quite concerned. I fact, I would dissmiss the idea of those puppies. Firstly because they are meant to leave their mother at 7 - 9 weeks of ago. If left longer, you don't have the opportunity to get her used to your home, and the things you will do for her as an adult. You won't be able to bond with her as well as if she was 8 weeks old. They are already through their socialization age also, which diminishes at about 12 weeks.
Secondly, a puppy is already supposed to be through all their vaccinations by that age.

Do they Shed?

No, not normally.

We got a 6 month old male maltese, and he never barks regardless how we tried to get him to. Is this a defect or normal?

It's normal.

I Have A Male Maltese And A Female Maltese, My Female Maltese Is Registered With APRI And My Male Is Registered With ACA. I Want To Register Them Together In The Same Club Because My Female Is Pregnant. Can I Do This?

I have a one year old son, he seems to be alergic to dogs. His doctor says because he is young it will go away. Is that true? Can i get a maltese?

You may also select the Minature Schnauzer as another option.

Hello,
I thought I'd help answer your question with my own experience.
I personally have bad allergies (pollen, dust, cats, dogs, etc.)
I have had those allergies since I was a child and haven't outgrown them. There would be no way of knowing for sure (realistically) if your son will outgrow them or not.
I used to have a Maltese and didn't SEEM to react. I did get sniffley at night, but there were cats that lived upstairs... My dog never gave me any rashes. I could travel in the car no problem. I could put him in my jacket no problem. But that is just me we are talking about and not your son. He would have to spend time with one to really find out. But then agian, ideally Maltese should only be handled by adults and older children...
You might want to consider waiting until he is older, Maltese are not normally recommended for small children due to their small size. Sorry if that dissapoints you. The concern is that a young child could pick up the dog and drop it. Or wrestle, or try to ride the dog etc.. I'm sure you would be supervising but it would save you a lot of headache if you didn't have to constantly worry about that. And mistakes can happen in a flash of an eye.
Hope this has helped. Poodles are another breed that some people with allergies can handle. They do come in 3 sizes (toy, Miniature, and Standard) That might be something to consider if you decide you need a sturdier dog.

I recently received a Maltese as a gift, he is two and a half years old. I took him to get his shots at a pet store and the vet administering the shots that day said he looked too under weight and refused to vaccinate him. He was estimated to weight about 6 LBS, Is this considered normal for a two and a half year old or should I be worried?

I have a teacup Maltese that weighed in at 1.8ounces and got her vaccinated. At 2 pounds she is going in for the remainder of her shots. Maltese typically weigh between 6-8 pounds teacups weigh 3-5 pounds so your dog sounds about the right weight.

My Maltese puppy has dark colored spots on his skin all along his back. They haven't seemed to bother him, and they are not raised. Are these spots something normal like freckles, or should I take him to the vet?

Maltese are very sensitive to the sun so if you had your maltese in the sun he/she may have been sun burned as a result the dark spots on the skin. That will not go away try pet sunscreen as to not harm the skin and sunburn. If it is not sunburn then yes a trip to the vet maybe needed.

I have a 1yr old maltese rescue, barks aggressivley at others dogs, I couldnt be happier with how he is with us as a family.. I was asked to take another rescuse in in the next few months, it will be puppy . I do not want to upset my first rescue any advice , does the sex matter . I own a male.

Your maltese is agressive for a reason maybe neglect maybe abuse. He is also getting used to the adjustment of a new home etc. I would not recommend adopting another dog as of yet even though maltese are known to love other animals you are dealing with a rescue pet who may feel resentment and not loved with the new pet. Just a suggestion to give the maltese lots of love attention and a waiting period before you add another loved one to the family.

I have a 7 lb. Maltese who is sooo cute & almost 2 yrs. old but boy does she have a barking problem at most everyone she sees & aggressive a little towards them, does anyone have this problem?

Maltese bark a lot, but if its an issue for you I just taught my maltese to bark on command with "speak". Then when I want him quiet I use the "hush" command. Food treats help when they quiet too.

My maltese barks often as well. I think its a typical maltese behavior. Mine will bark at anything and everything!!

Hi, my 5yr old maltese keeps on scratching and biting her back around her bottom. When she does ths she get black makes on her back. Can anyonemake a suggestion why she does this?

Probably fleas and she's having an allergic reaction to it.

At what day during her Cycle ahould I breed her?

My 3 month old maltese puppy have errect ears, is this normal ? They are slowly dropping, when should it fully drop?

My maltese Max is very vocial. He barkes at me all the time, I think mostly to play with him, but it gets on my nerves and hurts my ears. How do I get him to stop?

You need to teach him that you are the boss and the boss says stop. I would suggest you contact a certified trainer and take some classes. Don't go to someone that does it for you. What you're looking for is someone who will teach you to communicate with your dog.

Hi, I have a 6 weeks old maltese I'm worried that she's not eating. Is that normal? Should I force her?

Six weeks old, she should still be eating from her mother. Get some of the puppy type milk from the Pet store. You can also get something called Nutra-cal this will supplement what she's not eating; it's in a tube and you squeeze about a table spoon out for her to eat. Another option is getting soft food, while vets don't recommend a complete diet of soft food, it's more appealing to maltese, at least until she starts to get the desire to eat. My maltese is 4 months old and it took him a few days to eat when I first brought him into my home at 8 weeks. My Maltese's sister died at 9 weeks and neither was dewormed. I took Puddles immediately to the vet once I picked him up and it was found that he was innudated with hook worms. He had very little energy and a little appetite. You should really bring her to the vet, it could be some type of worms that have her feeling lythargic and lazy. I really recommend that if she hasn't been dewormed yet.

hi my maltese has black litle tiny spots on her stomack how do you cure them?what are they?

theyre probabbly thicks my dog had that 2 just buy thick shampoo to get rid of them

hi my maltese has black spots on her stomack and they are in her but you can squeze them out like zits can you help me? she is six years old.

Most likely these are black-heads. Nothing to worry about.

Hi. Is it normal for Maltese's to pant when sleeping? She is a girl about 11 months.

What is the best thing to use for my Maltese tear stains?

please do NOT use angles eyes, it is an antibiotic and does more harm then good. i use pro-biotics such as new chapter plant based pro-biotics for colon support. this one is especially good for animals and keeps there skin and immune system healthy. took two weeks before results of 1/2 capsule every morning mixed in her raw food by natures variety, and now everyone comments on how bright her eyes are. it keeps away the orange staining from there paws and ears too. everyone and their pets should be on pro-biotics everyday for optimal health.

Angel Eyes is absolutely wonderful! It is added to food, more in the beginning then tapering off after several months. In the end we now only have to add it a few times per week. Shop around, prices can be competitive.

I'm thinking of getting a maltese, but i dont really like how the coat is so long as the dog gets older, is it okay for a adult to be kept in a short coat??
and how fast do their hair grow??

There is nothing wrong with keeping them clipped if you are not planning on showing them. We keep ours cut short most of the year, but allow them to grow out some in the winter for warmth.

I also am thinking of getting a Maltese I first saw a
Maltese from girlfriends neighbor and explained that I would love a dog but I have a servere allergrie. She then told me that they are great dogs to have for people who have allergies and I have found that out to be true. Now to answer your question she had her dog cut in what she said was a PUPPY CUT the hair on the dog was short and it looked really good. I also like the hair shorter so when I do get the dog I will be getting that cut. Let me know what happens.

How big does a Maltese get?

They are small, Height:8-9 in. Weight: 4-7 pounds.

they can grow from 12 inch to 40 small cm

Hi my 18 month Maltese Shitzu has developed bad dermatitis with very inflammed ears, bottom and now feet. Responds well to cortisone (managing on half a tab each day). Even six antihistamines a day did not help. Seems probably allergic to grass and pollen not food or shampoo.does anyone have other suggestions?

Athletes foot cream may help his ears because the inflamation can cause the ears to remain moist all the time and fungus could develop

When it clears up, clip and/or pluck the hairs short from the ears butt and feet.

hi! i am a vet from hudersfield and the dogs i have delt with in this situatiion they was alergic to flowers and trees, if you have any flowers or trees in your garden that will be the problem. if your situation gets any worser go to the nearest vet to you they will deal with the problem! GOOD LUCK!!!!!
