We're from the Philippines where it gets extremely hot during the summer months, even indoors. We just had our adult Pomeranian shaved all over, REALLY short. When we took him home we realized he wasn't his usual self. He used to be really frisky and excited all the time but now he just hides under the couch or just stays in one spot and hardly moves. We're thinking that maybe he was traumatized by the shaving? The vet says he'll be back to normal in 2-3days but we just need a second or third opinion.
Also, is it true that sometimes when you shave Pom hair, there's a chance that it might not grow back at all? The person at the Grooming Station assured us it would but we're read lots of comments online claiming otherwise.
There also seems to be mild irritation in both of his eyes. They're sometimes watery and he keeps rubbing them with his paws.
Thanks for your time :)

what is the behavior of the newly shaved pom? shaved like skin head.

another question how can i tell if my pom is full breed?

Hello, i have a question my boyfriend just gave a pom and i have no idea what to feed her thats good for her,and how can i get her to be obidient,, i need help...

I bought my first pomeranian in December, she is now a little over four months old and her once innocent attitude is fading fast. She has all of a sudden become a little aggressive when she has something that you don't think she should have and actually growled and bit me when I took something from her? Also her hair is no longer fluffy and very thin looking? People that see her think she's a long haired chihuahua? Is her hair thin-ness normal?

actually it is normal, just baith her/him with with a mild shampoo that with help improve her fur...

I bought my little pom when she was 3 months old, I brought her home to our little one and half year old 1/2 snauzer 1/4 pom,1/4 yorkie --they have gotten along great the whole time , but here lately my little pom is horrible to the other dog when they go into the little kennel bed that they have always shared. or either eoming in from outside my little pom gets all agressive with the other dog. my little pom is a female that has been fixed, and the other one is a male that is also fixed. I just dont understand why my little one is so aggressive. i am afraid they are going to end up fighting, I dont want that. PLEASE I need your input.
thank you.

My pomeranian goes outside and bark at nothing, why does she do that?

how much homemade food to feed my pomeranian who is 4years old and weighs 16pounds. thank you

(at least that much of homemade food)

that pomeranian is pretty heavy, maybe you can feed it a can of mighty dog and put in a little kibbles, that will do :)

Hi, my pomeranian is about 3 years old. He puts his head in the snow and lays on it when he goes outside is this normal ? also the other day, he had a lot of water dripping from his mouth and was shaking and look frightened, any ideas ? he really scared me ?

i am not sure but it might be

Seizure disorder

I have a 10 month old pomeranian; sometimes he will make a honking cough. He is not doing any exercise neither he is thirsty. Is this normal at all in poms?

It is called reversed sneezing by the vets.
Like us having an asthma attack.

My Pommie does this sometimes when she gets too excited or drinks water too quickly. The Vet says it is a "reverse sneeze" and is normal in small breed dogs.

Check with vet. It may be a collapsed trachea.

I have a 3 yr old pomeranian weighing 4-1/2 lbs; sometimes she will pant for no reason. She is not thirsty or hot, nor has she been running around. She will pant when she is nervous, but I am not talking about those times. Is this normal at all in poms?

My pomeranian pants constantly as well! She usually does it when she is excited or happy! I can tell it is a different kind of pant because typically when she is too hot her pant is silent. When she is excited she is a very loud panter!

It is most likely she is exciting herself by a scent she has caught, or just enjoys the feeling - if you are worried - or she begins to do it more often than normal - check with a vet!

My pomeranian pup Bella is 2 months old and is so cute. I got to see her parents and they are beautiful. The father is more creamy and the mother has a little bit more orange to her. But my Bella has some dark brown to black tips on her ears and tail and lower back. But under all that she has the cream color. Is she going to lose the dark coloring as she gets older? Is this common for poms?

Yes, she will lose the darker hairs, this is common in many dogs, they begin life with slightly different fur to what they will have in their adult life (like children losing their milk teeth, she will lose her darker fur.) But it is no cause for concern!

My male Pom is 4 months old. He weighs 6.5 lbs. is almost 10" tall. How much heavier and taller do you think he may get? Also, his tail is straight as an arrow, he can lay it on his back but it doesn't curl up, any ideas? And one other thing, his ears are huge, will he grow into them? Thanks !!

Are you sure he's a pure Pom? It sounds as though he may be mixed with another breed, have you met both his parents? Was his breeder Kennel Club certified? You can check up on this (either to get some money back as mongrels are cheaper, or to merely make sure it isn't a health problem.) Good luck!

Are there physical markers that will result in a show dog?
How do you determine what is the appropriate age for breeding?
What does a breeder take into account to produce different color pups?
What other things can come into play when breeding for a certain color?
How do you breed a dog down to a smaller size and be a pure breed?
Where do you think this breed is going?
Is there any breed defects and what is being done to eliminate them?
My questions are about pomeranian dogs.

why does my pomeranian puppy have such short and very little hair?

I have a 2 yr old pom & he barks at EVERYTHING! How do I stop this? My 10 yr old pom NEVER did this. I'm at a loss & he barks at everything, a leaf blowing down street, neighbors outside, his own shadow, yes own shadow. Need help with my little pom.

Pomeranians okay for people with alleries?

I sacrifice the sneezing for my pom but I wouldn't recommend it. I have to vacuum all the time. The shedding is ridiculous.

Can I ask, what are the advantages of owning a Pomeranian?

These little dogs are mistaken for "yippy" or "unfriendly" much like chihuahuas but it's quite the opposite. My 3yr old pom is my best friend. He's loyal and well behaved. Very responsive. Friendly to everyone. Overall, they have a great temperament. Just be sure to give them lots of attention since they are so playful and active.

I've had many dogs of various breed in my 63 years but none compare to the spirit of my recently acquired adult Pomeranian. If you are a dog lover and are looking for a fine "best friend" I would say this breed best fits that description, also highly intelligent, alert and responsive to their master.

I just adopted a 9 month old Pom. He has been to the vet and given a clean bill of health but I've noticed that he sneezes alot, is this typical of this breed?

Yes that's normal. My Pomeranian is FOREVER sneezing. It's as if they are allergic to their own fur. Lots of dander... I think they're a lot like humans in that way.

My pomeranian howls. Is this normal for the breed?

Yes, I think so. I'd have to research more to back my answer up but my Pomeranian howls as well and I think it's somewhat do to the shape of their muzzles.

are poms good for people with allergies?

How many times a month should I bathe my poemeranian?

i have been a groomer for around 11 yrs i have met many dogs that get a bath once a week including my 1 yr old pom as long as you use a mild shampoo and remosturizer your pom should be fine.

Bathing any dog removes natural oils from the dog's coat. Try not to bathe your Pom much, and use dry shampoo if possible.
Hoping this helped.

Is it ok to shave my pomeranian?

That's fine, I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on entering any dog shows because the coat will never be quite the same. but if you shave just the top coat, it should be fine.

I do, because in the summertime she just gets too hot with all that fur! She loves having a haircut and jumps around like a puppy when its done.
Because her fur grows VERY fast, I have her clipped twice a year if not more.
Hope this helps you.

I take my pom to the dog park twice a week, he loves it! I just read something that said avoid dog parks they are dangerous, i have been to 4 different parks and i chose the one i felt most comftorble in. i have only encountered one aggressive dog i left right away. what is your opinion on dog parks?

It is very likely that aggressive/large dogs have attacked smaller dogs in dog parks but if you have a short leash and complete control of your pom, it should be fine.

I don't think that it's bad to take your pom to a park. If so you meet an agressive dog, all i do is pick my pom up and leave.

My pom likes to lick. He will lick anyone or anything, at times. Is this compulsive behavior?

It's normal. My pom licks feet and floors and anything stinky really. If I could take a guess at why: It'd be that they are rat/rodent hunters. And of course, rats are very stinky, making them more attracted to licking and smelling these sort of things?

I think it's ok but maybe he's not getting enough water?

I have a 6 year old pom and he doesnt seem to stop itching for the past 2 weeks. I'm 90% sure he doesn't have fleas, I have him frontline last week. Do you think he just has dry skin? This concerns me because when he doesn't stop itching he goes under the bed and doesn't come out. any thoughts?

USing frontline doesn't mean all the fleas are gone, maybe he has some skin irritation. My dog did the same thing but he didn't seem to have anything wrong with him. Soon he stopped.?

Hi, my Pomeranian pup is 10 months old, and still not fluffy. Does this mean she is not a Pure-bred?

I breed pomeranians , poms get there full coats any were between 1 to 3 years old , yes some poms have taken up to 3 years to get a really good coat, so give it at least 3 years and yes they can have a bad coat and be pure bread.

I have a black pom. and she is not fluffy either. That is because she doesn,t have a full undercoat. That does,t mean they are not a full blooded pom.

i was thinking about getting a pom but will they favor one person and not like company or do they luv everyone

Poms are most loyal to their owners but they are very friendly so typically, they'll play with anyone. As soon as someone walks in the door to my home, my pom is there to kiss them and greet them no matter who it is.

i have a little pom and she loves everyone. she might favor me more than the rest of the family, but she does love everyone

I have a 5 year old female pom who is pull globs of hair off her body what do I do? She is bathed and brushed.

When that happens to me, i usually brush her and take out the fur with the brush.

Hi i was just wondering how to brush my pomeranians teeth?

You can use a small toothbrush and scrub gently but it's easiest just to buy special treats (like Milkbones) that clean teeth as they chew on them.

make sure you give them a little bit of salty food regularly. It helps make teeth strong(both in animals and humans)..

How many calories should a toy pom eat per day? My pom is 8 lbs and told to make her lose 2lbs.

HI My pom eats 12 grams of dog food morning and evening - that's no treats - carrot stick is fine or small amb lung chunk. Greenies are good once or twice a week. Dog food like Solid Gold wee bit dry food or Wellness dry food small breed or Spot's Stew Dry food.
Can food is high calorie. Can increase diet plan by adding cooked frozen spinach. They love it. Also cook a 4 oz cod in water onto the spinach then drain in squeeze out water and mix together nicely and store in freg. This has worked to keep her weight right and keep her happy as well.

At what age is it safe for females to bear a litter and at what age are they no longer fertile?

with maturity comes strength and stability.give your dog a few yaers before breeding, may be after 2 years would be a good idea for the health of puuppy..and never have them breed consecutive years(it affects the dogs health vogourusly)..and dont try it after 7-8 years...cheerssss

Hi, I just bought an all white Pomeranian, 8 Months old. I know that Poms should have a curled tail. But I'm kind of curious why my Poms tail is mostly down and looks like scared when people gets near him. I hardly see his tail all curled up in the back. What causes this? Anyone have the same problem? This is my 2nd Pomeranian. The other is 4 yrs old sable brown and his tail is always curled up.

My pom will usually put his tail down when he's scared or feels that he's done something wrong. In some cases, he keeps it down when he's tired. I'd get a check-up with your vet on that. Mention that your pom is acting a bit strange. They should be able to tell if your dog is sick. If not, that might just be your dog's thing!

My pomeranian is 8 months old and he has a habit of howling at night. How can I stop him doing this?

I really don't know what to tell you. but my pom barks A LOT and i mean ALOT when she hears people at the door or thinks she hears people at the door haha!! What i am starting to do is when she barks at people when they come to the door is i put her in the bathroom and shut the door. It sounds mean but it seems to be working, because they hate it when they are isolated. I hate doing it but its effective. My pom does not howl, but she actually did the other day when i was singing. I was doing the La la la la la la la...haha!! and i kept going higher and she started howling when i went really high, and she had never howled before!! I thought it was so cute so i recorded it haha!! But it was funny. But you can try that. Does your pom howl at the moon or something. Anyways thats all i can think of but good luck. I personally think poms sound adorable when they howl haha because their so little. How old is your pom mine is 1 years young!!

Hello my pom is just a year old Im wanting to switch to adult food what is the best brand of food for him and how much should he be feed twice a day? He is 15lbs My vet says hes not fat he stocky so any help would be great thanks

Feed twice a day A good dog food like Solid gold and feed it about 12 grams - add carrot sticks or spinach to diet
Changing food directions on bag of dry food - little at a time untill fully switched over to new brand.

Your best bet is to ask your vet what they recommend, most likely they have it in their clinic. When in doubt feed your dog Science Diet,it is always nutritious and unlike many others,it has yet to be recalled or have bone fragments like some others that your dog can get caught in his throat. I switched from a wellness brand because of these bone fragments, they are fish bones, look carefully at the ingredients in any dog or pet food before you buy it ,hope this helped,God bless you and your furbaby.

No real reason to over feed your pet, especially a pom. once a day is more than enough. Just keep water around as far as adult food i would check the internet. i never owned a toy before but from what i've read the differences as far as care are small and breed specific. i hope this helps some and good luck with you pet.

My pomeranian will be two years old in April and now my boyfriend wants to get another(bigger) dog. What kind of dog will interact the best with my pom?

I have an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Pomeranian, They get along very well. My pom cleans my apbt's eyes and face on a regular basis and they play with toys together. my pit learned not to pull too hard so that my pom can get a good hold on the toy. People think they look strange together but they compliment each other very well. Hope this helped!

I also knew someone who had a pom and a beagle and they got along very well.

I've had my pom (Stinky) for about two years now. About six months ago I got a beagle (Margot). They get around wonderfully. My boyfriend's parents have a HUGE mixed dog (we think she's lab and rot) and they also get along good. My parents have an older lab and Stinky gets along great with him also.

Our Pom is a little over a year old- he eats -drinks -is a whirlwind of energy- His nose was black as in the online photo with the Police figure- we noticeed his nose is turning pinkish now? Could it be from one plastic dish or sticking his nose in the winter snow? He's supervised when in the yard to do his business. All his bowls are stainless & we tossed the palstic dish.

My malti-poos nose started getting lighter after about a year of age. I asked the vet and they said that this happens to some dogs - nothing weird.

We have a pom that is about 3 years old and he still has a bad habit of not being consistent with this potty training. If we are home with him he's usually pretty good, however when he and our other dog are here alone he doesn't seem to hesitate to relieve himself. Any suggestions?

I have a 6 1/2 year old pom and he did this for the first 4 years of his life. Poms and I m going to assume all dogs love love a schedule. Ever since he has been getting walking 2x day for 20 min.(7,30 am and 11pm) and is sent out in the yard to do his business at 1 pm and again at 5 pm. We do this every day, at the same time, including holidays and weekends and he has stopped being comfortable about doing in the house....if the dog is left wondering, hmm...when are they going to let me go out again, then he will go then and there.
Yes it was hard at first to keep this schedule, but after a while you don t even think about and your pom will adore you like never before.

You may want to leave him some toys to play with when you're gone, if you don't already. He may have separation anxiety.

Well, I suggest that you should not hesitate to give him rewards when being good. But also this problem may root from not taking him to relieve himself much or it could be a lack of something in his diet. Thanks for asking:)

Hello my pom boy is 11mo old when can he go on adult food? He weighs about 10 1/2lbs how much food should he be feed each day? Thanks

You should actually start putting him on dog food right now. He is fairly an adult dog with an adult dogs weight. For how much feeding daily, give him a cup of dry dog food.

My pom is 4 months old and is very fragile and active but he is having boils and fungal infection. what should i do?
Is sugar and salt harmful for pom dogs?My pom loves ice-cream and sugar products but is least interested in having his dog biscuits. can you suggest other alternative?

A Pom should never be fed anything with milk or sugar. They become diabetic easily. Feed only a good quaility dry dog food. For treats, I suggest Cheerios.

I bought my Pomeranian at a pet store and they promised he is a full blooded Pomeranian. He even came with papers showing who his family is. He is 8 months old and weighs 15.5 lbs. He is not fat. This is twice as big as a large Pomeranian should be, so does it mean he isn't full blooded?

My pom is full blooded and is about 17lbs. That's normal. Not common, but normal. Poms have a wide range of sizes.

Poms use to be 20-30lb before they started to breed them to be tiny 3-7lbs. My last pom was purebred and weighed 19-20lb normally, not overweight, and she lived to be 16 years of age. They say the larger ones have less health problems and tend to live longer lives. I found that to be true.

Pomeranians can range from 3 to 20 lbs. The AKC Standard is 4-7 lbs, with 3 and under being considered 'Tiny'. Poms are a breed that has been bred down from a Spitz...a hard working, sled pulling dog...so many of them will carry the Spitz, or large gene. Yes, he is probably full blooded....Pet Stores get a bad rap, but in all actuality, they purchase their pups from only the best breeders and they are VERY critical on the pups they do buy...so as long as you bought your Pom from a Respected & Reputible Pet Store, you shouldn't have any worries.

Probably not. Pet stores are very unreliable sources when trying to find out if the dog is pure or not. You may have been told what they thought you wanted to hear.

I just got a pomimo and her father is a 15 pound parti pom, much larger than my 7 and 9 lb. poms so this is an interesting question I would like answered too.

Approxiately at what time will a pomeranian puppy stop growing? Is there a way to determine from the size of a puppy, what size the dog will be at maturity? Is there a toy breed weight chart?

A pom usually gains their approximate adult size by 4-6 months. That of course does not account for overfeeding. Some breeders have size charts posted on their sites but I cannot vouch for their accuracy.

My pom is 11 years old going on 12, she has never been on a leash AT ALL in her life. Is to late to train her?

Hi! My pom NEVER liked being on a leash, and I kept on trying all the time. We lived on a farm where she could get excercise, but were moving to the city, and I wanted to train my pom so she could go for walks. My pom was smart and learnt by slipping the collar over her head, she wouldn't have to walk. I put another hole in her collar to tighten it, making sure i could still fit two fingers in. Eventually, Lady my gorgeous pom learnt to walk on her leash and now does fine and no, she is not a young pom at all. I think as long as you have a good relationship with your pom so that she trusts you, she'll be fine. I've learnt patience DEFINATELY HELPS!!! Hehehehe... be patient and consistent with your training and she'll be fine. Hope all goes well with your aim! :)

no....an old dog can still learn new tricks, though she might not be as eager to learn...

my pom seems to be loosing hair at the base of herneck on her back, is this normal ? i have tried taking off the flea collar, change the food and am about to give up.

Flea collars in general will eventually burn the hair off underneath then. Try Frontline or Advantage. It will take months for regrowth if it is due to the collar.

My Pom lost started to lose her hair with age, her whole coat thinned. The places we noticed it most was her neck, and hind legs.

Try using special shapooos or go to a vet to make sure it's not likned with cacer or something.

My Pom is a purebred, however, I opted not to get papers....I am noticing that her hair is longer but not as full. She is 9 months and I’m wondering if her hair is done growing??? Will it become fuller as she ages? At what age is she full grown?

She is a she,,,well She may never get the full mane and bushiness of a male,,some do some dont,,,the female is never quite as full as the male, doesnt matter,,by the time you count to 100 she will be shedding all over and you will be just as glad she doesnt have as much fur as a male,,good luck with her,,,

I don't really know but a pomeranian coat needs to develop. By age 3, it's coat is complete.

She is still a pup, and just coming out her puppy uglies. Poms adult coat comes in at or around a year old. Females coats are different from the males, females do not keep a full coat as the male due to going into season or giving birth. You nothing to worry about. She still growning into a beautiful pom. Fish oils are great for poms coats. You'll find it some dog foods.

She`s still pretty young. Her hair might not be full yet because she hasn`t gone through a full year`s worth of seasons. She should start to grow her undercoat soon and that should make her look a lot fuller. Small dogs usually reach adult weight around 1 year. Large breeds stop growing around 2 years. If she starts to show rapid weight gain after a year, switch her from puppy food to adult. My mother kept her Chihuahua and Schipperke on puppy food until 2 years and they got very fat.
