What colour are walker hound ears?

At what age should walker hounds start their training?

We'd like to use our walker coonhound for hunting. How difficult is it to train them to be around gunfire?

will walker hounds destroy your home or can you train them not to chew on furniture?

It doesn't have anything to do with the breed you morons. A puppy is a puppy. Not every walker acts the same. As a matter of fact their personalities vary more from dog to dog than just about any other breed. I have one that lives in the house and he chewed on stuff until he was out of his puppy stage at about a year and half. This website clearly knows nothing about walkers either by the way.

We adopted what was believed to be a beagle-coonhound mix, but is actually a treeing walker coonhound--to my amazement--and so far she has chewed up a $400 coffee table, SEVERAL cat toys, rawhides and even big rib bones. We've found that if you keep them stimulated with the right chew toys (for strong chewers) they will leave your things alone. Unfortunately, we have to keep her kenneled when we're not there because we have 3 cats!

I adopted a treeing coonhound - this is my first male dog - and he's a chewing maniac. He's about 7 months old. Is this a boy dog thing or a treeing coonhound thing, or will he grow out of it? We live in a condo and he has chewed up many, many, many things. Help!

Yes, he will. We had the same problem and he stopped after 1 year. Now we have other problems, such as running away problem. We hoping to go over this one as well by two.....

I have a 13 year old treeing walker coonhound and it does get better. They have a lot of energy, but are the BEST dogs with family. So loving and giving of their love. Mine has turned in to a huge couch potato. Just give it time and think about crate training, it really does work. Also, lost of outside run and walking time.

I am considering buying a Walker to use as a house pet for my kids and a hunting companion for me, however, can they be contained in my yard using a wireless fencing system or will their hunting instincts take over and thus run through the fencing border?

I probably would suggest you to buy another breed. THEY ARE difficult to be trained, just difficult........

My fence is only about 2.5 ft tall and he's plenty big enough to just jump over but he's not that smart!

My male is only one year old but he stays in the fence. He will open the gate just enough for the little dog to get out if someone is outside of the fence. I believe he is just trying to get the little one in trouble.

We have a 9 year old walker and the invisible electric fence definitely keeps her home. Our electricity even went out for a week recently after a bad storm but she'd gotten so used to the fence that she didn't realize it was gone. We love it.

We have one treeing coonhound and just adopted another one that we think is one- he does have a mixture of black and brown spots could that be a mixture of treeing and bluetick?

Have you ever heard of a 6yr old walker running around and acting normal then all of a sudden collapsing and not being able to get his back legs up under him to walk again?

I just adopted a treeing walker coonhound. She is 7 months old. She started doing the same thing. She seems fine, but every once in a while her back legs will give out. She has tons of energy, bounces over snowbanks, does well on the stairs etc...so I wasn't sure what was going on. She went to the vet's for x-rays and her hip is dislocated. This is because her hip socket is too narrow for the ball of her femur. She is going into surgery for an FHO operation. If they simply put the femur back into the hip socket without the surgery it would fall out again. It is an expensive surgery, but in her case the vet is confident that she will do very well.

how do i tell the difference in a walker and a beagle. i have a little pup and i cant tell if it is a beagle or a walker. any advice?

Walker has very long legs and big paws. 8 week old coonhound will be probably the same size as a beagle

Up until a month ago my walker was always called a beagle by people, but then he hit a growth spurt and he is 7 monthes old and 60 lbs and has extremely long legs.

you will be able to tell if her legs become very long, but as a puppy they look very similar. if you are luckey she is a walker, because these are the best dogs.

I think its hard to. My husband and I got a puppy about a year ago from a shelter who we thought was a beagle and 65 pounds later we believe she is a walker. So for us only time could tell! She is bigger than we had planned but she is great!
