General Description
(Swedish Dachsbracke) The Drever is a breed of hound with a stout body that is close to the ground. Their forelimbs are parallel and short, and unlike the Dachshund, the Drever’s legs do not bend. They have a long, large-sized head that is well-proportioned and a tight upper lip that closes firmly over their low jaw. Their eyes are thin, clear, and possess an alert expression, and the tail hangs in a downward curve. The Drever’s dense, flat coat is close-fitting and exists in a variety of colors like fawn, black, and black & tan. White markings are present on the face, chest, neck, feet, and tail.Know something we don't? Add it here
Character
The Drever is even-tempered, alert, and strong-willed. They are passionate about their work and will often want to continue long after their owner is ready to stop. They have an outstanding sense of smell, and while they are slower than many other hunting breeds, they make excellent trackers. They are courageous, head-strong, and possess a temperament that is neither timid nor aggressive. The breed is known for its friendly tendency to wag its tail and for its loud, musical voice.

History
The Drever is the re-creation of a type of short-legged dog that was used to drive certain types of game toward the gun. The breed was developed from the Weshpalian Dachsbracke and a variety of other local hound breeds. While the Drever is extremely popular in its native land of Sweden, it is rarely found in other places. The name “Drev” means “to hunt” in Swedish, and this is exactly what these dogs are bred to do. They are the most popular hunting breed in Sweden. The Drever was named in 1947, given the nod by the Swedish KG in 1949, and officially recognized in Canada in 1956.
Maintenance
The Drever has a smooth, short-haired coat that is easy to groom and care for. The coat should be rubbed down with a soft cloth or chamois to help get rid of any dead or loose hairs. This breed is a moderate shedder.
Ideal Environment
The Drever is content to live in a small household or apartment if he is sufficiently exercised. They are an energetic breed that enjoys going for walks and participating in play sessions. They are comparatively active indoors and do not require a yard.
