Olde Victorian Bulldogge

General Description

The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is a large muscular dog.  A large square head starts of this breed and leads to their short muzzle which is droopy because both lips hang down.  Large brown eyes, which are also round and full of expression, give this breed a sweet look.  Sitting on the side of their head are two medium-size floppy ears.  On their face are many wrinkles, especially on their forehead.  A short thick neck with a dewlap leads to broad shoulders, their very deep chest, and their slightly sunken stomach.  Short legs give this breed an unproportioned look and leads to large round feet.  This unique looking breed has short sleek fur similar to that of all other bulldogs.  Many color variations are common and acceptable for this breed, such as white, fawn, tan, brindle, and black brindle; all of these colors can have white mixed in.

Character

The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is a friendly and tough breed.  Friendly by nature, this dog will be sweet and loving with all people, including small children.  This breed also gets along well with other animals in the family.  Luckily, this breed does not bark often unless something feels like a threat.  A distinct feature of this breed is how bold they are.  This breed will never back down, but they are also not naturally aggressive.  Often stubborn, the Olde Victorian Bulldogge can be difficult to train and so training should begin at a young age.

History

The Olde Victorian Bulldogge, like many similar breeds, was created in an attempt to build a healthy bulldog.  Carlos Woods, the breeder responsible, started his efforts back in 1988 by combining a number of different breeds, including American bulldogs, English Bulldogs, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Maintenance

The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is easy to groom with only a few needs.  Brushing should be done even though their coat is smooth and sleek; frequent brushing or combing is necessary.  Also important is cleaning their face wrinkles with a damp cloth every day.  Exercise is also needed every day; the best form of exercise for this breed is a good walk.

Ideal Environment

The Olde Victorian Bulldogge is a sweet dog that is friendly with everyone including children and animals.  Owners who do not want much grooming and who like to go on long walks will be the perfect match for this cute dog.  Early training is required because of the breed’s stubborn nature.  Great for living in an apartment, the Olde Victorian Bulldogge is calm in the house and does well in any climate.

Post Response
Friends of mine are interested in adding a Victorian Bulldogge to their family.  We are from Canada and having trouble finding information about the breed and where breeders are located
there are a few breeders in ontario. but not many. i know of one in priceville, and that is where i got my dog.
Post Response
how well do these dogs do during the hot florida summers?
Given proper shade and water they do very well.
Post Response
I see that these dogs have been bred down with staffordshire terriers. Do they have the (locking jaws) that they are so well known for?
The "lock jaw" you are referring to does not exist, it is a myth. Some breeds have a very powerful bite. Victorian bulldogges have a strong bite but also have an uderbite. This makes them a poor choice for personal protection training (bite work). There look alone is enough to keep most unwanted people out of your yard and I would trust my older dogs with an infant.
