General Description
(Small Vendeen Basset) The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a cute, medium sized dog. A square head leads to their long rectangular muzzle. The muzzle covered in a long, flowing beard ends with a large black nose. Huge round eyes are set back slightly in their head and are usually a dark brown color. On top of their head are long ears which hang down past their face and are covered with long hair. The breed’s broad neck leads down to its rectangular shaped body. While the dog’s body is normal size, its short chubby looking legs give it an unusual look. A long curly coat covers their entire body, especially their face and legs. Coat colors do not vary much because they are always white with black, yellow, orange, or grizzle markings mixed in. The coat of a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is seldom curly and is wiry in texture. The coat is to protect them from brush and brambles when they were used for hunting in the Vendeen area of France. The name 'Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen' actually means "Small, Low to the Ground wire haired hound of Vendeen." Their ears should not be on top of the head but start level with its eyes. The ears seem long, but the tips should only reach to the end of the nose in length.
