The Crestoxie is a hybrid blend of the Chinese Crested and Dachshund. This lively small dog is very fond of people. The coat and body build can take on either of the parent breeds, or be a lovely combo of both.

Character

Due to the stubborn nature inherent in this hybrid, housebreaking may present a challenge. You will need to be consistent in training the Crestoxie. He is a intelligent pet and will require lots of mental stimulation. He has a bit of a possessive nature, so don\'t let him rule you - he will surely try.

History

The Chinese Crested is not from China, but the name came about as they were traded by Chinese. This little dog was popularly used as ratters on shipping vessels. The Dachshund was believed to be from Germany in the 1600s where they were used to flush badger from their burrows.

Maintenance

Brushing and bathing routines will depend on the gene inherited from the parent breed. If they are like that of the Chinese Crested and have exposed skin, they will require frequent bathing with a mild soap. Possibly protective clothing and lotions may be needed. The wiry coat may need stripping and brushing regularly.

Ideal Environment

The Crestoxie can be prone to barking, so if looking to get a pet for an apartment you may wish to consider this trait. They do well in smaller settings and playing indoors can give them most of their required exercise, with occasional walks. They have an inquisitive nature, so challenging toys are helpful in keeping them busy. Small children may not be a good fit as both parent breeds have tendencies towards dominance and nipping.

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of DogProblems.com. Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. Many training issues are too extensive to answer in this forum, which is why I refer a lot of the load to his site. Update: I've been using and recommending DogProblems for three years now. I, as well as my users, value the techniques we've learned. I get weekly emails from users who have become better owners from the information they received.
