The Jacairns hair is wiry and does not shed. It is a medium sized dog with a pointy face. The color is black with white patches and strongly resembles the Scottish Terrier. Others may be rusty brown in color with patches of white.
The Jacairn is happy, social and very intelligent. It responds will to training and when properly socialized, mixes well with children and other animals. The Jaciarn is curious, playful, happy and often watchful for its owners commands.
The rough coat of a Jacairn needs to be stripped every few months with a stripping knife or tool to remove the dead hair. The ears should be checked and cleaned, as should its teeth and nails.

I believe Tucker is a mix between a cairn terrier and Jack russell. The person that we bought him from had both!

Bosco is a typical terrier. His mum was a black cairn terrier and his dad a smooth coated white and tan jack Russell. He is energetic and loves to walk. Likes a mad half hour running round the house in and out of all the rooms and under the beds! Can be grumpy with other dogs especially when on the lead. Seems to like the ladies more! If he finds a river it can take forever to get him out! Oh and he moults - a lot! Great wee dog.

Well forget snappy the dog food box shut, Scruffy has now figured out how to unsnap it.
I see in the listing of dog breeds Jacairn Terriers aren't listed as super intelligent but our Scruffy, aka: The Beast/Beasty Boy is super smart. Very obedient and loves to pose. Affectionate and can finish a 1/2 cup of dog food in under 40 seconds flat (timed).
Needs a nice big fenced in yard, a nice walk every day, lots of praise and affection and to sleep with whomever he chooses to grace with his presence.
I think people are not aware of how smart these little dogs are. I was always a big dog fan because big dogs tend to be smarter, but this little guy (God, don't tell him I called him little) is smart as they come and brave.
Scruffy is not hyper, he's pretty laid back because we take him out several times a day in our big fenced in back yard and he always gets a walk.
He also gets along with our Pointer Lucy very well.
Came from Wisconsin Animal Shelter. Adopt, spay and neuter.
