Australian Retrievers are golden brown and golden blonde in color. Some have white accents. Most stand about 24 inches tall and are considered a medium sized dog.
Australian Retrievers have a protective sense and need a firm handler. They require plenty of exercise and socialization. They may become destructive if bored and under-exercised. Some may have herding instincts that may fade with age. They are loving, intelligent and loyal.
Brushing a couple of times a week would be best. You may also want to do a light trimming to prevent matting. As with all dogs, proper dental hygiene and nail clipping is needed.

Katie lived to be 14 years old. She was the perfect family pet, great with the kids, loving, gentle and seemed only to want to please us and love us. She was mellow and matured very early. She stayed in our yard without any fences, all it took was showing her the boundaries, and she honored them. She was an amazing dog, the best pet we've ever had!

Katie was a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Golden Retriever. Although she was primarily gold and black, the majority of her puppies came out looking like Blue Merle Australian Shepherds. One of Katie's eyes was lighter brown than the other.
She was the best family pet we had ever had, great with kids, mellow, well behaved and totally devoted to all of us. I hope that this hybrid becomes popular because it's a great combination for a wonderful dog.

Rosie lived to be 14 years and was the BEST family dog. She was mild with children and very affectionate. She listened well to direction and took to grooming well.
She wasn't much of a guard dog as she would lick everyone that came to the house.
Be careful getting this breed - you will become quickly attached and find it difficult letting go when the dogs time comes. Make sure you take many pictures.

I would say Andy is the best of both worlds... Quiet and gentle when we are at home, content to lay at my feet or set his head in my lap... but when we hit the hiking trail he turns into a ball of energy. Wonderful dog, very very protective and very loving. Sheds like crazy! He is mostly black, but when you pull back the black fur he has golden fur underneath.. He really is a beautiful dog.

Two layers of thick fur. Wide chest. A muzzle and tale like a golden retriever. Ears and body like an Australian Shepherd. She was born with herding instincts, nipping at the heels of running children (which had to be trained out of her). She is extremely athletic, able to climb trees and jump tall fences. She is also very smart, but in a way that gets her into trouble.
