Also known as a Cavoodle.

This particular breed is available in wide variety of different colors as well as sizes. Coat colors include solid white, black and tri-colors. The exact color and size of the Cavapoo will depend upon the size and coloring of the parent. The coat of the Cavapoo will vary between flat and straight and wavy and curly. There are both first generation as well as second generation Cavapoo dogs. First generation dogs are produced by breeding a Cavlier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle. Second generation Cavapoos are produced by breeding two Cavapoos.

The Cavapoo breed is a hybrid or a mixed breed dog that is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. This designer breed was specifically bred to produce a puppy that has the hypoallergenic features of the poodle and the sweet nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The breed is also known as the Cavipoo.

One of the reasons that Cavapoos is so popular as a designer breed is that the gene pool has been widened as a result of the cross breeding and many Cavapoo dogs inherit the best features of both breeds; in terms of temperament as well as appearance. General Health

Cavpoos are susceptible to any type of health condition which affected either of the parent breeds. These health conditions may include syringomyelia, mitral valve disease and cataracts. Prospective owners who are concerned about these health conditions should research the parentage on the puppy to ensure that the genetic line is free of such problems. Cavapoos that are well cared for can generally have an average life expectancy between 10 and 14 years. There are some Cavapoos that have been known to live up to 20 years.

As a hybrid breed, the Cavapoo is typically not able to be registered as a purebred even if it is a first generation that was produced from two registered purebreds. There are now some hybrid registries that may recognize the breed.

Maintenance for a Cavapoo will depend on the exact type of coat that the dog has. The Cavalier tends to shed more than Poodles, so a Cavapoo will be either low to non-shedding depending on whether it inherited its coat from the Cavalier side or the Poodle side. For the most part, the Cavapoo will require grooming on a weekly basis in order to ensure the coat remains free from knots and snags. Their coats do tend to tangle rater easily. A Cavapoo with a Poodle coat may need to be brushed on a more frequent basis. In addition, the toenails of the Cavapoo will need to be filed or clipped on a regular basis. Several times per year, the coat of the Cavapoo will need to be trimmed.

Ideal Environment

The Cavapoo does train well and when trained early in their puppyhood they can do well with training due to their intelligence. Owners should be aware of the fact that Cavapoos do become very attached to their owners and crave human companionship. As a result, Cavapoos do not do well when they are attached from their masters. They should not be left alone for long periods of time.

The Cavapoo is an excellent breed to consider as an inside pet. Due to their small size this is not a dog that does well outdoors. Cavapoos make a great pet for an apartment or a condo. It should be noted that Cavapoos do require exercise on a regular basis just as is the case with any dog. The Cavapoo does not require a lot of space, so even a home with a small yard will do fine for this breed. The Cavapoo does like to go for walks and is quite capable of keeping up.

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. Many training issues are too extensive to answer in this forum, which is why I refer a lot of the load to his site. Update: I've been using and recommending DogProblems for three years now. I, as well as my users, value the techniques we've learned. I get weekly emails from users who have become better owners from the information they received.

Cavapoo Q&A

Ask a Question

How big do they get?

My cavipoo is 25 lbs and 1 1/2 years old. Cute, non-shedding. Very active. Getting more cuddly but not like a bichon which I used to have.

Are they good with other dogs, specifically, mild mannered large dogs?

We have 2 large dogs and our cavapoo loves to play with them. She will chase them and they will chase her, it's fun to watch. They all get along great.
