As a hybrid breed, the Cavapoo is typically not able to be registered as a purebred even if it is a first generation that was produced from two registered purebreds. Maintenance for a Cavapoo will depend on the exact type of coat that the dog has. The Cavalier tends to shed more than Poodles, so a Cavapoo will be either low to non-shedding depending on whether it inherited its coat from the Cavalier side or the Poodle side. For the most part, the Cavapoo will require grooming on a weekly basis in order to ensure the coat remains free from knots and snags. Their coats do tend to tangle rater easily. A Cavapoo with a Poodle coat may need to be brushed on a more frequent basis. In addition, the toenails of the Cavapoo will need to be filed or clipped on a regular basis. Several times per year, the coat of the Cavapoo will need to be trimmed.
The Cavapoo does train well and when trained early in their puppyhood they can do well with training due to their intelligence. Owners should be aware of the fact that Cavapoos do become very attached to their owners and crave human companionship. As a result, Cavapoos do not do well when they are attached from their masters. They should not be left alone for long periods of time.
The Cavapoo is an excellent breed to consider as an inside pet. Due to their small size this is not a dog that does well outdoors. Cavapoos make a great pet for an apartment or a condo. It should be noted that Cavapoos do require exercise on a regular basis just as is the case with any dog. small cavalier/min' poodle cross, 1st generation. wonderful dog, great personality, not very strong stomach (fussy on what he eats!) coat needs brushing EVERY DAY, not weekly because he has a poodle coat, they don't suit short coats, very obedient, easy to train and just wants to be hugged and play tug, which is great from the armchair, loves his daily walk, and can walk quite far but will sleep for ages in return! don't like to be left alone, and would destroy magazines etc if left to it! we live in an appartment and he goes out about every 2 hours now for a tinkle and does his business twice a day! strongly reccomend the breed.
