The Jack Chi can originate from a Chihuahua mixed with a Parsons Russell Terrier or a Jack Russell Terrier. The two terrier breeds are very similar and the Jack Chi will basically look the same either way. This breed is either smooth or broken coated (broken is a mix of smooth and rough). The Jack Chi is usually white but can have an additional color of black, brown or black and brown spots. This breed is normally 15 inches at the shoulder. The faces resembles either parent breed and the ears may be erect like that of the terrier. The eyes are almond shaped and usually dark brown or black.
The Jack Chi can have characteristics of either parent breed. The Jack Chi generally is very playful and is known to chew. It is a good idea to keep plenty of chew toys on hand. This breed is high energy and does not tire easily. They need daily exercise and mental stimulation. They are intelligent and house broken easily. Some may be overly nervous like the temperament of the Chihuahua. They strive to please and love to snuggle with their owners. They also do well with children if properly socialized from birth. They love to smell and will sometimes follow their nose. They have a medium prey drive and will chase birds and squirrels.

We have had gizzy for 2 months and he is already house trained and doing amazingly with tricks! His only problem is when he gets giddy he turns into a little nipper but luckily he seems to be getting over that. He's almost the perfect dog!

This is Dewey he is believed to be a Jack Chi. Although not confirmed but we are pretty sure. i rescued him from the Human Society here in North Dakota. I have had no problems with this breed yet. He is trained, and very well mannered. Although he does get territorial with other dogs. He is very sweet and loves to run! I couldn't be more happier with this choice of breed.

Rosie our rescue Jack Chi with our rescue Jack Russell Jinx, which shows a good comparison. They took a while to become friends and there were some awful fights, which luckily were mostly noise. However now they get on fairly well. Rosie is delightful and intelligent. She is very loving and sweet , but can change quickly, so you must learn to watch for signs, and avoid situations likely to cause friction.

Rosie is a cruelty case rescue, and wants to be boss, but with love and firm discipline she is doing well. She learns quickly and loves her lessons. Her first month with us was a nightmare, and everyone was bitten, but now she is going from strength to strength. She knows the cat is not to be messed with, and is friends with our Jack Russell most of the time. These dogs are not an easy option, but the rewards are great.

Rosie is a rescur Jack Chi cross. She is as cute as a button and very sweet to look at, but can be determined to do her own thing and will growl and curl her lip. She bit both her new owners, who are experience with Jack Russells , when she first arrived ,and needs very firm discipline. Rosie now has a bronze Good Citizens award and is working towards Silver. She is very quick to learn. She is 8 inche high at the shoulder, and long bodied. She weighs 6 lbs. Her coat is rough with whiskers. She has killed two chickens , and is small enough to get through the cat flap and stock wire. We love her dearly, but don't put up with any nonsence! This is not an ideal cross.
