My Eskie was very aggressive towards my cats when I first got him. In about two weeks they had reached some kind of agreement and now all is peaceful. Cats can handle themselves better than a bird, though. These dogs do seem to have a well developed prey drive and I can see them going after a bird. They can jump about six feet in the air, as well. They are very smart though, and with proper training I think you could all live together happily. I, personally, would never leave the bird out in the house, loose, when you aren't around to supervise.....you never know.....Good Luck.....you won't find a more loving dog breed. Also, if you get a male, neuter him as young as possible to lower aggression. My eskimo is 10 years old and while we have our own arrangement of birds, cats, and a few reptiles, she is never aggresive toward any of the animals in her "pack". She is not your typical spitz though. She is very laid back and has lots of manners. She is very well behaved and non aggresive. |
