I really want an American Eskimo puppy. Will they be good with good with cats? |

I have 3 American Eskimo dogs, and our oldest one, Trixie, barely tolerates our cat, Chance. The middle one, Rocky, totally ignores the cat, while our youngest one, Dakota, is extremely tolerant of the cat. The Chance follows Dakota around and when Dakota lies down, the cat lies down, also....usually either on or beside Dakota's head. Dakota just lies there and waits for Chance to find a comfortable position. I have an Alaskan Eskimo, a relative of the American Eskimo. My dog Rosie is about 4 years old and she tolerates the cats but she loves to play and tends to chase the cats around like its a game. One of my cats hides because of this but she touches noses with my dog when neither are in a frisky mood. My male cat on the other hand doesn't allow my dog to chase him and hisses everytime Rosie tries to play with him. So it varies. My American eskie is great with cats. Think part of the reason is he was intoducted to cats when he was a puppy . I have three cats and one Eskie; they are generally tolerant of cats and other small critters. As long as you firmly discourage any chasing of the cats, you should be fine! |
