User added info

The Papshund is a cross between the Papillon and the Dachshund. These dogs have inherited the butterfly-like ears of its Papillon parent and the long body of its Dachshund parent. They need plenty of activity and exercise as they have high energy levels. This is a very emotional and sensitive breed and requires gentle treatment. The Papshund makes for a lovely companion, but should never be left out in the open alone as they tend to wander off. They do not like cold temperature and do better during warm climatic conditions and can adapt to the lifestyle of town as well as the country. Their life expectancy is between 13-16 years.

Character

Being an energetic dog, the Papshund can adapt to the lifestyle of both living in town or country. They are loving and affectionate toward the family and expect the same in return, in fact, they require more affection than other dogs. The breed becomes a little difficult to train because of Dachshund parents genes which make it aggressive and less tolerant, but its habit of being a family dog and pleasing the family helps overcome this. The Papshund should not be left out in the open alone as they tend to wander off. They make for an excellent guard dog and with proper training and socialization tend to do well with other pets as well. They are, however, wary of strangers unless introduced well.

Maintenance

The Papshund requires weekly brushing of its coat as it does not shed much, but it\'s long and soft coat hair needs proper care to maintain a healthy coat. Regular baths are not advised, and they should be bathed only once a month with a mild dog shampoo. While brushing, however, it is necessary to check their ears and clean them. Nails are to be clipped as per the requirements. It is advised to take them for professional grooming only once in a while.

Ideal Environment

The Papshund is an active dog and like activities both inside and outside the house. It is advised that owners have at least a small garden or some inside space in the house where they can run around and do activities. With their elongated body, however, it is advised to owners not to encourage them for high jumps as this can cause injuries. They like going for small walks and also like spending sometime at the dog park. This breed should be taken care of properly in cold climatic conditions, as they do not like them.

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of DogProblems.com. Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. Many training issues are too extensive to answer in this forum, which is why I refer a lot of the load to his site. Update: I've been using and recommending DogProblems for three years now. I, as well as my users, value the techniques we've learned. I get weekly emails from users who have become better owners from the information they received.
