Character

The Patterbea is very loyal toward the family and does not bark much. This is totally opposite to its Beagle parent, who is extremely vocal. Training them can become an issue as they are stubborn at times. Because of its prey-minded nature, it is advised to train them early and also socialize them at the early stages. Otherwise, they are friendly towards strangers, pets, and other dogs. The Patterbea likes to be around young children and shows protective qualities when near young children making them the best companion which young children can have.

Maintenance

The breed has a short coat which is easy on maintain as they do not shed much. They are also known not to be a hypoallergenic dog. However, one brush them frequently such that the dirt which can get collected in the coat can be removed. Otherwise, they can develop dog odor. This dog has a water-resistant coat making it difficult for the owners at the time of giving them baths. The veterinarian must be consulted for a mild dog hypoallergenic shampoo such that they do not develop skin problems. These dogs are at a bigger risk to develop periodontal disease. Thus the owners are advised to clean brush the dog\'s teeth at least thrice a week. In fact, it is also advised to give them hard rubberized toys to play with, by chewing on these toys it would help to reduce the build-up of plaque and ensure good dental health.

Ideal Environment

A medium size dog, it definitely has lots of energy to burn. The genes of this breed and the prey-minded qualities increase the activity and intensity levels of this dog. They need plenty of running around in the day and need at least 45 minutes to an hour of exercise and activity. They like going for walks with the owners and also like to visit the dog park to play. Owners are advised not to leave them unsupervised while letting them play in the backyard. If proper activity and exercise time is not given to them, then they can develop behavioral issues such as digging and chewing. This breed prefers climates that are not extremely cold or hot.
