Pomchi Q&A

I have a 9 week old Newfoundland puppy had it a week and the top coat on it’s tail looks as if it has been shaved and the under coat looks normal the rest of it’s body still has its top coat so its tail looks funny. I took him to the vet and she said puppy was healthy it was just getting its adult hair does this sound normal or has anybody seen this?

this is totally normal. I have raised two male newfs from puppies and both of them started getting their adult hair on their tails, followed by feet and face. enjoy your baby!

The same with my Newf, he was 10 weeks and his tail looked like bent in a middle where the adult fur was. Now he is 5 month but the tale still has only that one piece covered with adult fur,

Yes, this is normal for them. They have all this fluffy puppy hair and then it starts to come out and they get really shiny but look kinda funny . It just gradually moves down untill they lose it all. We take ours to the groomer once a month and have them use a furminator on him. At 6 1/2 months his puppy fur is almost all gone.
