History

A Shelchon is a hybrid mixed between two purebreds, Shetland Sheepdogs and purebred Bichon Frise. Shetland Sheepdogs look similar to Rough Collins but they are not the same breed. The ancestors of these breeds were believed to be King Charles Spaniel and the Pomeranian. In 1911 the American Kennel Club recognized the breed Shetland Sheepdog. The other parent breeds Bichon Frise is the origination of an island of Malta in the Mediterranean. One of the woolly water dogs, the Barbet is thought to be the ancestor of Bichon. These little canines were popular in Spain and were introduced to the United States in 1956.
