We had our wee chon around 2 cats, one was about a year old and he was very, very playful and the other one was only a couple month old kitten. My dog loved them dearly, she would eat, sleep, and play with them. Yes, she played rough but she never tried to hurt them.

Mine is not. He chases them and will not leave them alone.

Mine is not either, he barks and chases them

Absolutely. I've had a series of Maltee in my home for close to 40 years and I've never had a problem. I have four in my home right now and I have three cats. There's nothing they enjoy more than chasing the cats if the cat will run but if the cats in a the mood to play they are off and the race through the house is on but when the cat stops so does the dog. Two of the dogs here are puppy mill rescues that I'm socialized and they thought it would be wonderful to chase them but it was the same as the dogs who are here all the time. Chase'em if they'll run. One of my Maltese raised a litter of kittens that were in a house that was being torn down. Evidently the mother got killed or frightened off but she hadn't been back and the kittens were weakening so my husband brought them home for me to feed. We started that way but my Jenny kept getting in the box with them and she would finish cleaning them off when I thought I was done. First thing you know, her milk came in and she took over the whole job and took complete care of them. We were having a garage sale and she was laying on the floor feeding them. People would walk in and look at them and look away and you could almost see their brain catching up and they would look again and say, "Those are kittens." It was very funny watching for the reaction. One of the rescued dogs I have now is elderly and has no teeth and arthritis so he could be cranky but he's as fine with the cats as my own dogs are.
