Chesapeake Bay Retriever Q&A

My wife and I do not have any children, but do have a 5 year old female lab, and two cats. We have a good size house, large lawn, and live about 600 yards from the Mississippi river. We are considering a chessie, and have heard about their protective nature, which is somewhat attracts us to the chessie. We live in a neighborhood that a little protection would be good. However, my mother and brother, who we spend a lot of time with, have labs and a rat terrier. Would the other dogs be a problem with the Chessie?

It should not be a problem to have a chessie around these other people or dogs as long as you socialize them from a young age. Mine is 11 months old and has been solialized since he was 9 weeks old. He loves everyone and loves other dogs and cats, although since he is still a youngster can be a bit hyper in play with them, but we continue to work with him and he is getting better with play time with the other pets around the neighborhood. Early socialization is the KEY.
