I have a male miniature Schnauzer that is nearly a year old. I read in a book that it is recommended to castrate a miniature Schnauzer particularly for health reasons. Unless the testosterence level is reduced by catrating, the the prostate gland usually enlarges gradually as the dog ages. This can become uncomfortable for the dog once he reached senior status. Is the risk of this high? I would prefer not to castrate him but do not want him to suffer as he ages. Thoughts?
