German Shorthaired Pointer Q&A

My husband and I are thinking of getting a Cane Corso Italiano mastiff and my husband was talking to someone and they said that they think that they possess the same sort of lock jaw as a pit bull. And before I would get a large animal lik the Cane Corso, I need to make sure of this. We have 3 grandchildren and I worry about that issue in a dog.

If you are thinking about getting a Cane Corso, I would recommend getting one as a puppy. This will prevent future aggression if you socialize it at this age. Their bite is greater than the pitbulls on the chart

"locking jaws is a myth" strong jaws are the reality.

I own a 3 yr old male cane, his bite is deffiently worse then a pitt, he has been socialized and obient trained , and he is still dog agressive, and I have seen first hand they are no dog for the weak, but I also have 2 teenages with friends in and out all the time, he does well with people, they are very protective of their family and will put down his life for yours, great family dog and protector if trained right from puppy and the whole family needs to attend obient training so everyone is on the same page, and socialize socialize socialize, and you will have a awesome dog, I would not trade mine for the world, I have owned many dogs but I got to say the cane corso melts my heart

Amazing breed just needs to be with an experienced large dog owner. They absolutely love their family but you need to make sure gran kids feed them and give them commands. As with all dogs they need to know they are bottom of the pack. Very very intelligent and very loving. They hate being left alone for long periods. My corsos are happiest when they are by my side or on my knee. Great companies but need a firm hand and lots of interaction with other animals from very young. One if mine was badly treated and I rescued her and she hates strangers especially men. My other isn't bothered about strangers and won't even take food off someone she doesn't know. My 7 yr old son can put his hands in her food and Fred her and she enjoys it. Very gentle with him the other gets constantly watched as was abused her first yr. They chew until their about 2 and a half when left to their own devices first month is critical for training then you have the best breed ever :) never play fight though as it's putting you down to the dogs level. They love learning to stimulate their clever minds. They also have empathy and know your feelings. This is rare
