Golden Retriever Q&A

I have a 5 month old doxie. He's been in excellent health since we brought him home. Two days ago I gave him a pork bone for the first time, he loved it. Then yesterday morning I noticed him drooling excessively. When he takes naps he'll awake drenched. He's still eating and drinking as normal, no problems with pee or pooh either. Could this be his new back teeth coming in? I noticed last week his baby teeth were gone and now his new front teeth are in. I've checked inside his mouth for any discoloration or signs of problems and I can't see anything. I'm wondering if I should take him to the vet?

I had the same issue with a dog years ago and after a very expensive vet visit and bill it seems the bone remnant was lodged in the roof/palate of the dogs mouth. There was some damage to the palate and back teeth. The vet said NEVER EVER give a dog or cat pork bones - they can splinter and are sharp as glass. I hope your dog is fine but I would take him to the vet immediately.
