I have a 7 year old Mini and she was purchased when my daughter was three. She has been an excellent pet and recently has been exposed to several times to children under three and has been excellant w/ them. She loves babies and plays w/ the mobile babies like they are a kitty. However, I do monitor her closely w/ small children because any dog may nip if they are hurt by a child.

As with any dog, as long as you monitor the dog's play with the child as close as possible you should be fine. My mini LOVES attention and she is great with kids, although rambunctious at times which can be intimidating to some children. I also have a westie/maltese hybrid and she is perfect with kids of all ages. I am a firm believer in the owner makes the dog, you'll get out of the dog what you put in.

We have had our schnauzer Scooter since he was 4 weeks old and my girls were 3 and 5 at the time, we have not had a single problem with them or the dog, so I would say yes but with any pet you will have to watch both the dog and the child.
