Lhasa Apso Q&A

I have a Morkie and she is three months old and a Labrador Retriever that is six years old. Since I got my lab she has been living in a single dog home, and now we have gotten the Morkie as a friend. My Morkie tends to pounce on my Lab and bites at her mouth, and her ears. I try to get the Morkie to stop but she refuses to and continues to do this. My Lab is very patient and whines after a certain amount of time passes. The puppy also growls occasionally at my Lab when they play, which is not very often. Is there anything I can do to help my Lab integrate with the Morkie more easily?

I have a Morkie now a little over a year old but I also have a 6 year old lab/bulldog... My morkie did that when he was a puppy and still does it to this day but my big dog plays with him more now... I think when they are really little they look at them like babies and are scared to hurt them or get in trouble for hurting them or playing to rough. That is what I got out of it because one my morkie got bigger my lab started playing with him more.. Hope that helps!!

Morkies tend to be very joyful & playful. It sounds as if the Lab has not had others to play with? It may take a while for your Lab to enjoy the attention & have a "wild rumpus" with the puppy. Some dogs do "growl" while playing and it is typically all in good fun. A Morkie taught my labradoodle how to play :-) and although my 15 year old Brittany was not up to puppy play; after time and teaching the Morkie some manners (and pecking order) the old girl enjoyed the exuberant affection. Not overnight, not in a month, but in time.
