Llewellin Setter Q&A

we have 2 male llewellin setters that are will be 2 in July. they are from the same litter. We are having a problem with them digging. We have tried every toy you can name only for them to destroy and try to eat. We exercise them as well which doesnt seem to help. We have even yelled and spanked them in frustration only to make them upset . I read in a book to make a spot in yard for their "digging sandbox"''? You reward them when they dig in the "sandbox" and not reward somewhere else. What's your opinion? any advice for us? I feel the dog sandbox wouldn't work because they are digging to search for an animal or they smell an animal that has been in the yard. I feel it's not from boredom.

OUR LAD DIGS IN THE YARD FOR ROCKS DRIVES ME CRAZY HAVE YOU FOUND A REASON OR SOMETHING TO QUIT YOUR DOG FROM DIGGING

We have a beautiful 7 month oldl Llewellin and a 5 month old Boykin Spaniel puppy. We have (had) the same problem with them hunting moles in the yard and digging. We just purchased training collars (shock with vibration) and they stopped digging immediately. We have ONLY had to use the vibration setting. While not a fan of shock collars the vibration setting has cured a huge problem!

Llews digging? Here's how you fix that. Remember how sensitive their nose is? When you find a fresh hole put fresh dog poop in it. End of digging in that hole. Do it a second and third time and problem is usually over. When they have that much nose they won't put there nose there.
