This may seem like a silly question, but when can you tell if a chihuahua puppy is or could be long-haired? I have puppies, unexpected pregnancy, I know, bad me for not getting them fixed in time, but nature will do that. They are only 3 days old. Mom and pups are doing fantastic. Mom is long-haired, dad is smooth coat. To me, they all look like smooth coat, but I wasnt sure if that is just because they are so young. Any response is very much appreciated! Added later: And just for clarification of my question above, this is not her first heat, it is her second heat. She had her first heat in April/May of 09, and went into her second heat in August, making me very unprepared because I figured I had 5-6 months. The mom and dad are not of the same blood lines. I've found puppies usually take after the mothers side but what will happen is 3 will be like the mother and 2 like the dad if you know what I mean , are you planning on selling the pups?

mine took after her dad. only one in the litter who did.
