I have a year old Morkie, Oliver. He began doing this as soon as I got him. Its called reverse sneezing, and its nothing to be alarmed about. Its normal and most smaller dogs with small tracheas have this problem. Next time he/she does it, just take your hand and gently rub the underside of their neck. The sound youre hearing is very common in small breeds, especially yorkies. It is actually referred to as "honking". I had a yorkie previoiusly and it scared the beegeeies out of me the first time he did it. When I first heard my morkie do so, i understood it was an inherited trait, and nothing to worry about. my lola does it when she is excited, or exercising/playing, or even sometimes after eating or drinking. Unless your morkie shows excessive distress or it goes on for an extended amount of time, there is no need to worry! yes it is common in small dog breeds! My friend has a poodle/rat terrier and she makes that weird noise! It is jsut that theyhav a stuffy nose! just use one of those snot thingys It has been suggested on another site that you only use a harness on these little pups for walks rather than a leash hooked to a collar. The others are right about the trachea. The harness prevents you from collapsing it from pressure on the collar. |
