if u have a small dog like a chi don't let them out intel they have there shots and dog put them on the floor there is alot of people or pets cuz they could get sick with prevo u can give ur chi the prevo shot and gatorade the drink and if it makes it throw the night it should be ok but u have to get it on time it might be to late my dog did the same thing and she lived and she's still here think god Different breeds. Chesapeake Retriever's tend to be lankier as opposed to labs, they are also more "orange" in appearance, there hair tends to be a TINY bit shorter and coarser. I have also found that labs are much friendlier with people then Chesapeake Retrievers. Congratulations on your new puppy! I am sorry to hear he had a troublesome prior life. But because he is a puppy, there is still a chance to change his memories to good ones. I don't believe in yelling and shouting while training any age dog. I have 3 dogs, one of which is a 5 month old ACD. Part of our training is whispering commands to him. It helps him focus on me and sort of becomes a game. Training a dog with positive reinforcement is the best way to train a dog. Not only is it more humane, but it teaches the dog to think for itself. Positive reinforcement means finding what motivates your dog/puppy to "choose" the behavior you are looking for. For our ACD, it is treats and a clicker makes the training a game. You spend only 15 minutes a training period. Depending on how anxious your puppy is, I would try walking the pup first, then spend 15 minutes on one behavior, sit for instance. Always finish with a game of fetch or something to bring the training down to fun. Remember only 15 minutes. Training can be stressful. Good luck, I am sure your puppy will find new, good! memories. i think that if you have a bit of common sense about you most dogs are good but you have to teach both the dog and the child respect for one another as the owner of a101/2 year old gsd and mum to 2 young girls, l wouldhighly recommend a german shepherd they are just great That is a normal weight for 7 weeker! I have an 8 month old Brit, and he has gotten car sick. As he gets older it gets less and less. I can only recall one episode in the last 3 months. When I know we are going on long trips (an hour or more) where he cant get out, I give him Tums before, as approved by my Vet, and it works great. The only time even the tums doesnt work is when there is a sudden change in elevation, like when we drive in through a canyon here in Utah. Also, with the training, Brits are sooo smart, which can make it a bit of a challenge because they understand so much and try to outsmart you! But I really havent had tons of time to train my dog, and he just picks it up anyway. They learn fast and the best thing you can do is positive reinforcement. The more you reward something they do, the more they do it. To the point where my pup will just walk up and look and me, and when he's made eye contact, he'll immediately sit, or reach out for a shake, because he knows I'll reward him with attention or treats! My little Abby is exactly the same. I call it spoiled. She is smart and loving, but very demanding. Our older dog, Roxie use to be the dominate female but Abby wears the throne now. She does not like to share her mommy's love and attention. I wouldn't trade her for anything. My little Abby is exactly the same. I call it spoiled. She is smart and loving, but very demanding. The price does vary by breeder. Yes, a higher price tag does not ALWAYS mean a better breeder/dog, but MOST of the time is does. A good Mi-Ki breeder could not sell their puppies for $850. A breeder who DNA's their Mi-Kis (adults AND all their puppies) and has them registered in a MI-KI registry, their pups usually start at $2000 for pets only. Breedable Mi-Kis are expensive, the litters are small, and there are a high percentage of C-sections due to their small size. I strongly urge anyone looking to get a Mi-Ki to do a lot of research and make sure the Mi-Ki pup they want to buy IS registered in a Mi-Ki registry. i.e. American Mi-Ki Registry, Mi-Ki Club of American, Mi-Ki Breeders USA etc.. If it is the Mi-Ki characteristics you want, make sure you are paying for a PURE Mi-Ki and not a "Mi-Ki look alike" as a lot of breeders are passing off as pure Mi-Kis. Don't get taken, do your homework before you buy. Good Luck! Denise Schirr I have a 3 year old griffonshire named Abby. She does not like to share my attention with anyone. If our older dog or cats come near me, she chases them off. She has became the alpha dog. My miniature schnauzer's ears did the same thing. One would go straight up and the other stay flopped then they both would decide to go straight up then back and forth for a month or so. I was told they seem to do this when they are teething. And sure enough as this was going on he began to loose some teeth. Once he stopped teething they have gone back to being flopped. I have heard that not all will go back down on their own. My walker is almost a year old and for the first few months he chewed everything, as well (sandals, pillows, socks, anything!) We made sure to keep things off the floor and eventually he just started ignoring them. For the things that we couldn't put away (couch pillows and the like) we bough Bitter Apple Spray from petsmart (its about $6 a bottle) and everytime he would start chewing on something we would spray some in his mouth. It also works for biting! Just be consistent, I've had many dogs and he was by far the hardest to train, we're still working on it but he has gotten a LOT better. Our male weimaraner,Solo, will be 14 in 2 days! My mini is very instinctual and won't let up if there are any birds or cats near our yard. Maybe your backyard has some interesting animals out at night and your dog is out patrolling/hunting? I agree, take him on more walks during the day. I have 2 we purchased from a breeder near Calgary you can find her on kijjii calgary more than 7 pounds...our male pup is 9 weeks and he is 11 lbs. Hi. First I must say you should have researched the breed prior to getting the puppy. There are many people out there that do this and then get overwhelmed and dogs end up in shelters. It is my experience that a Rottweiler is a wonderful family pet. I have owned two, my current one is now over 11 years old. My girls loved them both. You must make sure you present yourself as the pack leader. My dog loves children and she is getting a little lame. My daughter was a nanny two a 4 yo and 3 yo and my Phaedrus just loved them. When they would lean on her she was in heaven. Rottweilers love to be touched by their people and they are protective of their people and territorial. My female is dog aggressive but she is not as bad with male dogs. It is my opinion that they are one of the most loyal dogs going. I would never recommend having more than one in a family becasue I am a firm believer in pack instincts and when there is more than one they are more apt to get into mischief. :) Everyone who meets my Phaedrus loves her. She is a gentle bear and has been my saving grace through many hard times. Just know that there may also be a chance that your home owners insurance will drop you becasue of the breed. Best of luck with the new addition to your family. They need love, guidance and discipline like children to make them wonderful. :) I have 3 chi's they didn't like wet food & sort of liked dry food. So I found dinner rounds which is soft in the middle hard around the outside. They love these & now won't eat other dog food. It seems to satisfy them. 2-7 5 Actually all dogs have this problem, watery eyes, but its more noticeable on an all white dog (Eskies, Poms, Poodles). We got Huter as a puppy and he had this problem, I looked online for days trying to find some help. There are a lot of different websites that cover this topic! But I started with the solution that was the fastest and it worked! Use the no tears baby shampoo to get the fur clean. Then start using a filter on your tap water, I know what ur thinking... giving my dog special water? But I did this with our eskie and my step-mom did it with her poodle and we've never had the problem since! just try to spend time with your ppup and dont groom it rough I Dont knoww!!!!! I breed english bulldogs and i found if you give them a tablespoon of yogurt in the morning and at night the gas goes away but if you miss a dose you will know it. hope this helps. love my bullies I started with one and he did really well but then we got another when he was 4. He adjusted beautifully to his younger sis and since we work all day it is good company for them both. asdfasdfasd I think you have just done a fine job socialising her. Be thankful she is a friendly well adjusted pup who does not bark unneccessarily or show unjustified aggression. I am a firm believer that even a dobie who does not show outward signs of protectiveness will spring to action when the situation warrants it. She probably does not sense trouble with the people who have come around. She will not only be able to sense strange behavior of a potential intruder, but will also sense if you are stressed by someones prescence. Also, she is young and full of puppy play energy. Remember, there is no need to train a doberman to be protective, it is bred into them. If you train your dog to be protective, you will most likely get an unbalanced overprotective dog, which will cause problems down the road including the possible siezure and euthanasia of your dog. All you need to do to get your dobie to protect you is to treat her with love and respect. Michael Folk never yell or hit your dog. if barking is not your problem and spraying water doesn't help try a bark collar with the remote you can use the remote to train your dog for what ever problem you have just make sure you have it at the right setting for your dogs size and don't over use it. this worked for my dogs for all sorts of training problems they are a little pricey but worth it when nothing else works. my friend has a pom and she lost her hair all over her back she ended up looking like a little lion it was cute but it was from the dogs food she tryed her on different foods and it didnt help talk to your vet she might need a special dog food like my friends it also might take about 2 months to know if it what your doing is working thats how long it took for my friends dog to start growing hair back slowly hope that helps you when introducing a new dog member to your family whether it be with kids or other animals make sure your the boss (leader of the pack). don't let them try to dominate each other or bully one another around at first, that will be a chance for them fight which you dont want let them feel each other out as new friends not rivals. remember your top dog and be sure they know it, they will eventually pick which one of them is higher dog in rank but this can be done in a friendly and safe manner with out fighting. hope this helps good lucky It is my understanding that the fur of an AED keeps them warm in extreme heat and cool in extreme heat. These dogs shouldn't be shaved due to being prone to skin conditions. Most dogs shed. If you don't want a dog who sheds a lot, consider getting one of the following: Affenpinscher Airedale Terrier American Hairless Terrier American Water Spaniel Australian Terrier Basenji Bedlington Terrier Bergamasco Bichon Frise Bichon/Yorkie Black Russian Terrier Bolognese Border Terrier Bouvier des Flanders Brussels Griffon Cairn Terrier Cesky Terrier Chacy Ranior Chi-Poo Chinese Crested (hairless) Cockapoo Coton De Tulear Dandie Dinmont Terrier Doodleman Pinscher Giant Schnauzer Glen of Imaal Terrier Hairless Khala Havanese Irish Terrier Irish Water Spaniel Italian Greyhound Kerry Blue Terrier Komondor Labradoodle Lagotto Romagnolo Lakeland Terrier Lowchen (Little Lion Dog) Maltese Malti-Poo Manchester Terrier Mi-Ki Miniature Poodle Miniature Schnauzer Norfolk Terrier Norwich Terrier Peruvian Inca Orchid Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Polish Owczarek Nizinny Poos Portuguese Water Dog Puli Schnoodle Scottish Terrier (Scottie) Sealyham Terrier Shepadoodle Shichon Shih-Tzu Silky Terrier Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Spanish Water Dog Standard Poodle Standard Schnauzer Tibetan Terrier Toy Poodle Welsh Terrier West Highland White Terrier Wirehaired Fox Terrier Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Xoloitzcuintle Yorkshire Terrier I don't know if it is normal, but we have the same breed of dog. Bear is 1 year old and he is the same way. He barely eats and he eats in the evening, not during the day. I had that same question until I read your question and now I think that it is just somehow part of the breed. I have two Malamute. both 4 years old. I live in south Florida. The biggest concern you will have in ensuing that they live inside most of the time. I work my dogs play time in as early as I can or as late as I can. lots of water. Don't forget you will have to learn to deal with lot and I mean lots of dog hair. You will need to groom you dog at least once a week. make sure you socialize you dog as early as possible with other dogs it will help in the long run. best of luck to you hi.have a britishbull cross americanbull is this a oldtym thanks I use an odorless baby lotion with vitamin E. I also apply a child's 70 SPF sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVA rays. I have a 2 year old yorkie. Up until a few weeks ago she had a bad smell too. I bathe her every week but it didnt help. Now I have changed her food from canned to dry and her smell is a lot better. it could be his diet Mine rarely barks but he has a tendency to whine when he's upset. I have a 5-1/2 month old SCWT, I've had him for 2 months now, and (2) six year old cats. So Far the puppy is still behind a gate away from the cats, he gets so excited when he sees them, I don't know if he wants to play with them or hurt them? Yes !! The wolfdog is a very social animal. If you start the training early the dog will be outstanding. I have two of them myself , and personally i would not have another breed. Show them love they will be loyall their whole life. And REMBER SPAYING AND NEUTERING CAN SAVE LIFES if u want let it sleep with u get a dog bed an a soft blanket an put it in ur bedroom or it might be he is sick. I have male boxer 5 yrs, then i got a male boxer/lab cross. When introduced, boxer wanted to attack cross badly ,but i took boxer outside when he passed water i rubbed some on cross then introduced them again, totally different didnt want to hurt him no more just kept smelling him.Now they are the best of friends well they become lighter because their stripes stretch. hope this helps www.khiri-khan.com Yes, we have a Rat Terrier and he sheds like crazy, even if we brush him a lot. Be prepared to have dog hair everywhere. I have a 3 1/2 month cavapoo girl, who is not at all yappy, she is very energtic and loves everybody so not good at guarding. she is attending puppy classes and is really quick to learn, she loves food so we use that to train her. she is dry at night and has been since 7 weeks. we take her out every hour or so and she does her buisness in a pen outside. overall she is the most cuddly happy puppy you could want, she loves sitting for cuddles and will sleep in my arms if i let her, I have 4 children ranging from 2 till 16 and she is great with them all. i would recommend the breed to anyone my cavapoo loves anything that moves, big dogs to my rabbit, I am sure they will all get along fine If you don't have a big yard for them to burn off some energy, they'll get nervous and that's a quick path to destruction. I've got about a half acre fenced and he patrols it constantly and loves to just run around throwing things in the air. Best dog I've ever owned but I wouldn't have one without a big enough yard. And yes, if you have squirrels, he's gonna catch them and kill them. That's what they're bred for. I have two rat terriers both around the 25lb-30lb range and take them along with me whenever I go out on my bike or running (usually 4-8 miles) and have yet to have them seem tired of running. The longest mountain bike ride i have brought my male on was 26 miles, even when I stopped to let him rest he would run around in the woods, showing no real signs of being tired. Both dogs got used to running next to the bike very quickly and have no problems with it whether on a leash or off. My Cavapoo will be one year old on October 15. She is active and loves to go for long walks. She only barks while playing or if someone comes to the door. she is also a big teaser. She was very easy to potty train. When we are at home she uses the doggie door to go in the back yard. We travel a lot in our motorhome and she uses a potty pad when I cannot take her out. She always lays next to me with her head on my lap in the recliner when I watch TV or am on my laptop. I am sure like all dogs each has it's own personality. v I had a nine month old that still had a pink spot above his nostril too. Black labs should be black all over, same with the other colours. Due to genetic reasons there will be no mixed colours in purebred labradors. The colour they are born is the colour they will stay although the chocs/yellows may lighten. Have you got the papers for the parents - I'd be slightly worried if they're supposed to be pure puppies - unless the 'blacks' are actually very very bitter chocolate in which case that's fine as it'll just be a lighter undercoat being shed. I have a 9 year old Rotty that has always been accepting of other dogs/cats. Right now my home consists of my Rotty, 4-year-old Pit Bull, 17-year-old Chihuahua, and 7-year-old cat. Siberian Huskys are a northern breed, they can not be trusted off lead even if your yard is fenced in. I would suggest getting a different dog that is better for that enviornment, such as a spaniel or a retriever. Actually, it was proven that northern breed dogs are okay in warmer climates, they can cool themselves down through their feet, so just make sure that you keep the hair inbetween their toes clipped, and never shave them. This could lead to skin diseases, also if your dog has pink on its nose, or a 'snow spot' you have to put sunscreen on it to prevent cancer. bulldogs are smaller, and considering that it is a puppy your dog might see it as prey. I would reccommend the female dog instead too, so you don't have to worry about dominance issues, but there would be less if they were both fixed. When you go to get your puppy, take your husky on lead to meet the dog, if the husky shows any signs of aggression to the puppy you might have problems. aybe your dog needs a good fresh walk maybe he needs a little play exercise anything to make him refreshed? That might be agood way to prevent it Push down on their lower jaw and teeth with a firm NO BITE!. The dog cannot bite down because you have control over the lower jaw and will learn by tone of voice you are not playing. I had my Doberman for 14 and a half years. I miss him dearly. Same with the whining, "NO WHINE"! I never laid a hand in anger on him. I taught him by voice command only. He was my best friend and I felt safe walking with him by my side. My 1 1/2 year old grandson would walk him on lead with me trailing behind and never had a problem EVER with disobedience. Motorists would pull over to watch this little tyke walking the dog with ease. My dog would stop at the end of a curb and sit waiting until he was given the command to go forward. I knew my grandson was completely safe with him. Doberman's are an excellent family dog. Minor troubles such as barking, whining, or separation anxiety can be mastered with voice commands. It doesn't take long to train a Doberman because they are so intelligent and eager to please. I would not hesitate referring anyone to adopt a Dobe. They are a great family member. 2-3 YEARS Please be very careful and don't let the pup be unsupervised. I have seen situations where the adult cat sees the tiny puppy as "prey" and will actually stalk and attack the pup, and it does not take alot to kill a tiny chi pup...an adult cat is more than able. I'd recommend bringing a kitten in with an adult chi first, but if you already have cats...just ALWAYS watch them and leave the pup in a crate when you can't be there, or put the dog in a room the cats can't get to. Take your dog to a vet, Chi's are prone to epileptic seizures that if caught early, can be controlled. In any event, this is a matter for a vet to check ASAP. I've never heard of heart problems causing seizures, What a TOOL this person is.I have had purebreds most of my life, everything from German Shepards to Dobermans,I rescued my boxer lab cross from a shelter where a old man had dropped off 5 puppies,My Ellie is now 6 months old and I dont think I have ever had a smarter and more intelligent dog.Maybe if this tool quit breeding dogs for a few years we wouldnt have an over population like we do.I ask everyone to go to your local shelter and save a dogs life .I cant think of how I could have left that shelter knowing that Ellie could have been put to sleep.I saved her life and she has rewarded me in countless ways everyday. So dont be a TOOL like the idiot that has been inbreeding for twenty five years,I'm not sure that the dogs are the only thing inbred in their household. Yes...this is a problem. Take your dog to the Vet asap. Yes...take him to the groomer for a sanitary cut. They'll just cut the hair around his bottom. I do this with my two Morkies. Puppies will do this. I agree that chew sicks and toys are good to have around. Also, when he bites fingers...use a high pitched voice and say "ouch". It mimicks the sound of a yelp which is a sign to puppies and their pack that the play needs to be gentle. A lot of Groomers have the reputation for doing what they want and not listening to the owners. Ask other dog owners who have a with dog long hair who they go to. That will help with hair disasters. i think that was so normal. my min-pindoes it too. they love tearing. and i think they prefer to really tear rather than just bite. Oh yes they slobber, mine can easily do a gallon or two a day! Never give a dane free food, they do over eat, and their stomach will flip and kill them. And never use the bag as a guide. at that age, a dane should get free food for 15 minutes twice a day. Let it eat as much as it wants in that 15mins, then take it away till the next meal. I'm not sure about a Maltese but as well as Mboi my Shar Pei I have a Tibetan Spaniel called Chloe. Both girls are 18 months old and have been together from a few weeks old. Chloe is a very lively bossy little dog but despite being the complete opposite to her larger sister who likes a quiet life and is a bit of a couch potato the two of them are the best of friends and Mboi puts up with Chloe bouncing all over her, chewing her paws and nose and wanting to play, with amazing good grace and will sometimes even summon up enough energy to indulge in rough and tumble with her. In fact the only time they've had a serious dispute was over a bone which Mboi tried to take from Chloe but even that was over in seconds and within a couple of minutes they kissed and made up. Hope that helps! I keep my dog brownies hair trimmed, but dont shave him and those who say you should. your idiots. how would u like to get all your hair shaved off. ya. how do u like it now? I have a white catahoula with one black spot on her back she is deaf but I use sign language and she was easy to train. I had trouble getting her attention when she was far away from me so I trained my other catahoula to get her attention when I called him, to tell the truth she picks up on things much faster than he does. they are different only in size, therefor they have the same pros and cons of the standard size shih tzu The standard is the largest. One of mine weighs in at 90 pounds and towers over most other standards. Sounds more like a nervous/ afraid response then an excitability one. Find some specialized training program to help address the dogs fears. Rarely. They are very groom-free dogs. But you may need to groom or bathe your dog if its coats dirty. No, but some breeds are prone to deafness in the lines. Its not a major problem at all. Gavo lei(goodbye) $125,000 -$200,000 I have had purebred dogs and mixed breed dogs. The best dog that I have had was a Boxador. She was excellent with children, SUPER smart, full of energy and so loving! It has been 12 years since she has passed away and I still miss her dearly. My living situation has changed since having her and I cannot have a dog now. If I could, it would definitely be another Boxador! I know people that have them now that absolutely love them!! Excellent dogs!!!!! I had a fawn boxer mixed with a black lab. She was fawn with white paws, white chest and a dark brown streak down her back. Beautiful dog!!! no dogs can never have chocolate because theres stuff in there tumme that can kill them mine is 16 weeks and weighs 8.6 lbs. Every dog is different. Leave them in a half-covered kennel (makes them feel safe) with lots and lots of bones/toys. She/he might bark/whine for the first few days but they'll eventually get used to it and the kennel will become their little den. Our little Westie is 2 years old. We've had her since she was a little pup- we nipped the barking in the butt ASAP- when she barked we said "NO" very sternly and placed her in her kennel until she calmed down. We did this repeatedly for weeks- of course, she still barks every now and then (what dog doesn't) but for the most part, she's awesome when it comes to the barking. She is such a well behaved and QUIET dog- minus the running circles in the living room like it's the Indy 500 :) People can't believe she doesn't bark- especially for a TERRIER! I'm terribly allergic to dogs :( Our Westie is perfect- I have allergy issues every now and then with her but because of her coarse outer coat of fur, it is barely an issue. They are not completely non-shedding like some people may suggest but their shedding is VERY minimal. I dress business casual to work and on days that I'm conducting interviews or meeting with candidates I have a black suit on-- our pup rubs up against me and I hug her everyday before I leave for work and not one hair on me-- I wish I could say the same for our cat! I think you shouldn't feed him human food even brocolli becuz that kind of food can make animals seriously sick or in your case, overweight. Just try feeding him/her normal dog food, and waiking him/her more even though he gets exersize frum the cat:) Ola o Meu macho e uns dez 5 Anos o adotei in UMA Instituição um UIPA POIs elementos dez displasia severa Grau coxafemoral. Keep your unhelpful comments to yourself. The hell are you both on about? I have a bordoodle - he is compasionate, fun, cheeky, loving and not covered in maggots. He sheds a little - not much though. He is energetic but once he's had a good walk he has a sleep. He isn't too hyperactive, just likes to play. Do either of you have a bordoodle or do you just like to put an opinion in? This is called submissive urination. First of all, don't verbally disipline a puppy for this problem because it will make it worse. Next, ask people to ignore the puppy and let the puppy get comfortable on his on time. Third, talking in the high pitch baby voice will almost always turn on the faucet as will bending over at the waist instead of squatting down to pet. One last thing, when it's time to pet, don't make a lot of eye contact. Stay in obedience training, consider a personal trainer for the first few lesson until the puppy gains some self-confidence. I have a 9 week old male pup at 7.2lbs and he seems pretty skinny... I would say 7lbs would be bones and skin at 12 weeks. Just my 2 cents How do you know it is not food? I too had to swithch to a dog food from the vet. Plus if you are feeding it any food from the table that is a no no as they have very sensitive stomachs.. We trained our ACD with hand signals before we ever trained her with voice signals. So, I would recommend that as a training starter for you. Sit, lay down, and shake are all pretty easy to train silently with a little patience. Give a treat and a little praise when the dog does the command right. After a couple weeks of this, if you are successful, then start adding a word with the hand command. Have the vet test for Giardia. Most labs eat more food than Great Danes. Danes are low energy dogs. They need lower protein and fat foods. When they are growing they may eat a bit more but once the growing process is done they are average eaters. You should never restrict their eating and you need to raise their bowls to prevent bloat. Ihave a grate dane .they are gentle giants and are very playful and are real gaurds but need lots of attension and are real companions Shave the hair around its bottom area i am from romania and you can find this breed below 100 euros! Pure blood pitbulls were bred for the fighting pit and all (human)aggression was bred out of them a true pitbull will never for any reason bite a human or fight another dog without being told to do nso.Their one goal in life is to please their master this desire overrides the need to eat drink breede etc.Prolbem is there are so few left and the breeders will not let the puppies out of their extended family due to fears of dog fighting and human aggreson being bred into the line.True American bulldogs are Natural Nanny dogs and guardians they were bred to follow the children around guard both the kids the farm the farm animals as well as work cattle pigs etc Prolbem is breeders of true American Bulldogs will not let them out of their faimly or extended family fear of being crossed with a true pitbull(scary mix) or any dog called a pitbull in the media.I owned a true fighting pitbull as a kid (he never fought with any dog I took him everywhere) my friends dad would pretend to beat me up the dog never bit him but would launch himself into the guy and knock him away and would lay on me and move his body to cover mine when the guiyu was pretening to came back and hit me.I got my baby boy a true american bulldog when he was a year old she died this last year 10yrs every sec she lived she lived up to the breeds name then some Got my pup when he was 10 months old and I think his first family got rid of him because he was tough to housebreak, but we did it. Took a good 2 months even with us being home all the time but we would not give him up for anything. He's our baby! I don't know of a breeder within your state, however if you're willing to travel to Michigan, I am located about 35 minutes from the Ohio border and I breed Chipins. I own both parents, vaccinate the pups, give large puppy starter kits with each pup, and guarentee them to be a healthy happy addition to your family. Also, most breeders will sell you the puppy and then you'll never hear from them again. This is not the case with Precious Little Angels. I will help you out every step of the way, give you training advise, and if you ever decide that you can no longer keep your pooch, I will gladly welcome him/her back into my home to foster until another forever home can be located. If you're interested, please give me a call at (734) 771-6868 or check out my website at http://preciouslittleangelpuppies.weebly.com Rubbing a dogs nose in his/her own poo will do nothing to assist. Most dogs will naturally smell their own poo once they have done it and will spend all their time on a walk smelling all the other dogs poo. It's how they trade info ie/ where they have been, what they eat etc. Putting their nose in their poo only excites them. Ignore bad behaviour (yes as hard as it is when it's inside) and reward good behaviour. After the dog eats or drinks it should be taken outside for toilet time. If he/she doesn't go bring him/her back inside. Try again in ten minutes etc and reward once the dog has done it's business. You should be able to extend the time between toilet time so that the dog can hold on longer. Hi we are a breeder near London Ontario Unbullevabull Bulldogges.. I do plan on having a litter in the spring of 2011 if your interested feel free to contact. Nancy Hermans 519-268-0147 www.unbullevabullbulldogge.com Siberian Huskies are very pack oriented and get along very well with other members of their pack... ie. dogs they are raised with. They have a very good-natured temperament around other dogs that has been bred into them as part of their sled-dog mentallity. A good sled-dog will want to work as a team with the other dogs on the team and this requires cooperation and tolerance, which has been bred into them for this purpose. We have been looking for one as well and have found some in Yukon Canada for $300, My Rotterman eats three cups of dry food twice daily. He's five years old and weighs 95 pounds. All muscle, no fat. 45 degrees is to cold I had a Jindo that recently died at 14+ years old. Whe he was about 10 he began limping. The Vet diagnosed it as arthritis. Prescribed Zubrin which worked very well until his death. It was 100 mg per day. He was aout 50 lbs. As I recall, when I first stated him on it, it took several days to take effect. But when it did - no more limping. Must give everey day - once. my puppy does that two we have worked out that taken him for more walks during the day and not making a fuss of going for a walk he has stopped we have only had him three weeks but doing well :-) You may also find your Papillon is part Phalene. There the exact same breed but the Phalene variety have droopy ears. Much like there spaniel cousins. Its completly normal and quite common to find a Papillon with one erect ear and one droopy one. Dogs lick for two reasons. One is to show submission to the alpha of its pack and the other is to heal wounds. Anything more then that is bordering on obsession. You can control it by being the pack leader and enforcing your 'rules'. When you have had enough of the licking say 'no' firmly. Theres no need to yell, its all in your tone of voice. Keep in a calm assertive state and wait until she submits by sitting down or backing away. You must be consistant with this form of training. Papillons are extremly smart dogs and will take any weakness as a sign that bad behaviour is ok. If you've ruled out allergy and dietry causes your most likely looking at a bored, lonely and frustrated dog. Papillons are incredibly smart and need alot of mental stimulation. There also a moderate level energy dog and thus need to use this energy daily or else it can have negative effects. Much like your seeing now. Try exercising your dog more and play games that stimulate his mind. Obedience training is great for this. as are certian toys such as kongs. Also to help soothe the skin in the mean time you can give you dog an oatmeal bath. This helps with skin irritations. Consistincy is key!!! If you want to dog to learn anything you must be consistant! Take you dog out First thing in the morning, then a few times during the day and before sleep at night. You should take him out after every meal aswell. Never scold a puppy thats learning toilet training. Praise praise praise! Give you puppy a treat or toy after each success! And should accidents happen, soak or pick up the 'accident' and take it to the area you would prefer along with your puppy. Allow him to smell it and then praise you puppy. They need to learn that there bodily functions are associated with a positive outcome. Try some boiled chicken. Chicken has natural penicillan and is good for doggies. We had a Toy Poodle that lived to be 20 years old even if he got cataracts at 7. We took him everywhere. Now, years later, we got a miniature malti-poo because it reminded my husband of our Toy Poodle. Not so, his behavior is so different. Our new malti-poo is one year 7 months and is very lovable but stubborn but very smart. We named him Pierre II as our Toy Poodle was Pierre I. We have had a lot of problems with Pierre II. We never had any probems with Pierre I. I will address those problems in a separate email on this forum. I am suppose to get from a rescue a "merle" color minature schnauzer. I haven't seen him in person, does anybody know anything about this color? I have been reading alot about this breed and you are the only one that says colby pit why is that With our bullmastiff, we found that he generally gained 10 pounds a month -- keeping up to his age. ie: 60 some pounds at 6 months.. 70 some pounds at 7 months etc... The vet told us that this is "ideal" Also, We took him off puppy food asap so that he was getting enough protien. Make sure that your dog is eating "healthy" food and a healthy amount as well. Tooooooo much food! Talk to your vet about slowing that amount down. You might just need less of a healthier more filling food. With our bullmastiff we found that he grew in stages. His head would grow... his body would grow... then he'd get tall... then his head would grow again... then his back end would beef up a little... etc... It could just be a stage. He seems young to assume that it is hip problems.. unless his parents suffered from severe hip issues. The above response in my opinion is very vague and incorrect, Myself being a Bordoodle breeder is very familiar with this vibrant cross, Their coat is very easily maintained and is NOT breeding grounds for maggots!!! They have a lovely low/no shedding coat that is very soft and fluffy to touch. i have a 13week old, olde tyme bulldog and i am certain they have no staffy in them as she is a big girl and looks nothing like them. i would have to go with a dogo argentino x bulldog Don't worry mines about 110 lbs and still looks lanky compared to my other one and also nowhere near as keen on food ....he's still a baby !! Is it cold ? , my girl always brushes out a grey'ish undercoat which she grows in the winter and sheds in the summer , my boy hasn't done this yet but he only came in March and it hasn't started to get cold here yet but I imagine he will grow a wool vest when he needs it Please please do , my puppy ended up with seriously displaced elbows at once expensive to fix and heartbreaking to have to deal with just because some moron didn't take the right precautions or didn't think the rules applied to them ...A's and B's please , don't breed B's or C's with something that looks OK but mysteriously has never been scored... Take her to the vet , probably nothing wrong but an x-ray or CT scan will confirm if there is anything wrong or not , surgery at that age is at once cheap and very effective - I know I have done it - plenty of good people can do an athroscopy , anything open joint can make things worse regarding athrosis , remember dogs with joint or inflamation pain will often not move a lot - better safe than sorry Best of Luck Don't know how hot it get's there but I had one which came from Tuscany in Italy and another form Britany we all live in 120 degrees most of the summer most of the time they just set in the pool or go to the beach ...lemons in the water , yoghurt and rice to eat , no walks in the day and a pool or lake they can visit at will..... It's a 10 year commitment and they can be quite clingy , BUT I have 2 , a 7 yr old and 10 month old with a 14 month baby girl ( human ) - it's a fabulous thing to watch they are devoted to each other Sounds like he's on a normal growth track. I got my Sheparnese when she was eight weeks old and she weighed about 20 pounds. I have always left her food out all day as she is a selective nibbler when it comes to meals, but she does eat a LOT by the end of the day. Your puppy is probably just larger than most and you shouldn't worry about overfeeding when they're that young, they need lots of fat since they grow so much. I also have a 1 yr old AHT and we never had a lot of puppy acne problems and her skin is so soft.I have used Aveeno creamy baby wash and Aveeno baby lotion(recently the Vet told me not to use the Shampoo because their PH is Not the same as ours)BUT to use a Sensitive skin puppy/dog shampoo.I wash our Dog once a week then apply Aveeno lotion which doesn't have lanolin(Breeder recently told me to use GLAXAL for Sensitive skin from the drug store(no lanolin). We have Just encountered our FIRST skin problem ,she has red irritated skin that has started dying and flaking off in the crease of both hink legs(possibly from the material in her her New Pajamas,??????) Glaxal seems to be helping a Bit but I'm looking for a Lanolin free Zinc cream(heard they can be allergic to lanolin)check your products.I use Iams for a dog food and drizzle a capsule of Omega 3 oil over it once a day(good for skin and Health). I read that by the time the food goes through all the processes it does when they make it , the Omegas and flax probably don't even exhist anymore.Just thought I would share what I have learned in hopes that it might help someone. Something else I use is A sunscreen in the summer "fruit of the earth SPF 50"(no lanolin) which I use on my son too,you can find it at Walmart and it's around $6 a bottle 355ml. If your Pap has an undercoat then he's either not from a quality breeder or he's a mix. Papillons are a single coated dog; they only have a fine top coat, this is why they shouldn't shed a lot. Yes, some Paps are shorter coated than others. You'll find quality breeders tend to have dogs with large amounts of fur, dogs from "hobby" breeders or breeders who don't breed for quality/show will have dogs who tend to produce less fur and fringe. Does you lotion contain Lanolin ?I have read that they can be allergic(sensitve) to lanolin and PABA.I use Aveeno Baby(dark blue one), the breeder suggested to try Glaxal for sensitive skin and even a zinc cream(lassar's paste/ointment)check for lanolin in the ingredients though) most baby ones contain lanolin. its ok out min foxy shakes too i think its a terrier thing The "apple head" chihuahuas have the "bugged out" eyes like Rodney Dangerfield. The "deer hear" chihuahuas have more "normal" looking eyes and longer snout. Much, much prettier dog by far and a better disposition. The ideal age is 3 yrs old, but some do breed them at 2 yrs old. A female should definitely not be bred before 2 yrs of age. It is important to ensure your dogs are healthy prior to breeding and some gentic issues that are otherwise unknown are not detected until 2 yrs of age. Its responisble to wait till shes 2 as every dog is too young. A vet may be able to tell when shes mature engouh. i am the one who posted these questions last year right after i got my griffonshire. my griffonshire was so scared of everyone and everything and was constantly attacking my teacup yorkie (his half brother) whom i purchased at the same time. i sent him to a 2 week obedience school and after working with him HE IS SUPER WONDERFUL. i would recomment a griffonshire to anyone. he is so loving and human like in his behavior. i totally love this dog. he is way better in personality than my yorkie. these dogs are awesome. My plott burps a lot after eating. He is extremely lazy while in the house, although very active outdoors. try a warm wash cloth . it may be allergys so call my your vet :) See answer to above. Everyone crosses the street when we are walking our Bulldog "Thingo". However, those who know us, and know him all see him for the sweet natured softie he is. He has a big boney head, a thick muscular neck, and thanks to a daily walk and exercise lifestyle he has the chest of a mack truck. How-ever, just because he is big and scarey looking doesn't make him a monster. He adores children, even when they sit on his back and pull his ears or tail. He gets on very well with other breeds of dog, including Whippets, King Charles Cav's and other breeds significantly smaller than he is, and gets on very well with our cats. It is all in the way he has been raised. He was disciplined and trained from a young age, using Cesar Milans method and he is better for it. Reputation means nothing, its the individual animal that counts. Too many idiots have raised AB's, Pitties, Staffies, Rotties and the like to be aggressive for fighting, or guarding reasons. These dogs eventually get out somehow and attack someone or something. These stories make headlines, because lets face it "Pitbull attacks child" sounds a lot better in the headline than "Shih Tzu attacks child", even if more Shih Tzu's are vicious compared to Mastif type dogs. i would visit a vet if me english bulldog weighed that little i have a 15 week old english bulldog i got it when it was 7wks and it did not walk properly but now it does it just needs to gain strenght in his/her legs if it doesnt improve I would see a vet! yes that is normal weight for that age when i got my english bulldog puppy he was 7wks and weighed 7lbs yes that is normal weight for that age when i got my english bulldog puppy he was 7wks and weighed 7lbs! when igot my enlgish bulldog it was the only one in the litter I also had a maltese that this was happening to. She was itching her skin and pulling out her hair. It ended up being an allergy to her food. It wasn't a vet that told us to switch her good, but a German Shepard breeder. Try it. It might help. i think it would be fine , just try to keep them in the shade alot if u go out .... or if u like big dogs try the american akita !! Maybe you should keep them seperated. P.S. My yorkie breed with a boston terrior. what will it look like? I have a 2 year old american bulldog I took him to the vet when he was 5 weeks old he only weighed 6 lbs. He now weighs 90 lbs and is all muscle. Not only is my beardie, Barkley, NOT self-conscious when I clip him, he prances around like he is a real ladies' man! He thinks that he is the bees' knees when he is freshly groomed, and he has a swagger that is unmatchable! Border terriers are very intelligent and independent and do not mind being left at home however if left for long periods of time this can result in seperation between the owner and the dog. Hope it helps!! it is not two specific breeds, of course English bulldog is in there, the only mastiff I am aware of that was used is dogue de bordeaux or bordeaux bulldog. Old tyme bully's are bred to stop the skin and heart problems developed by modern english bulldogs, the idea 30 or so years ago was to breed the bully's backwards and bring back the original bulldog I don't know when this question was posted, but that sounds like an underweight dog to me. I've owned 5 pyr's and my most recent was 15 pounds at 6 weeks. I would ask, are you feeding puppy food and not dog food. Are you feeding it enough puppy food? Has the pup been de-wormed. Is it a Dog or a Bitch? Is it a full breed or a mix? Is it a dwarf? There is no pyr puppy that I've ever seen that weighs that little at that age. The hairs on a Great Pyrenees are different from most other breeds of dogs. Their hairs are actually tubes, not fine hairs. Those tubes make them suitable for most any weather conditions, be it rain, sleet, snow, cold, heat, whatever. If you clip your Pyr, you will be doing it more harm than good. Additionally, their skin is very pink under their coat, so you will be exposing them to the sun, which they are not suited for. They can get sun poisoning and even sun stroke. DO NOT clip or shave your Pyr. If you do not know this about your breed, you should not have this breed. As wonderful as they are, they have special needs. No they are not. They are prone to skin conditions especially in a home setting. It's an animals dander that influences allergens. Pyrs are a wonderful yet sometimes difficult breed. Please understand that while you have experience walking this dog, you have no experience handling this dog. They CAN BE and often are difficult, stubborn, obstinate, indignant and aloof. While they may be quiet as a church mouse during the day, any little bump in the night will set them off. They are GUARD DOGS. They have been bread for hundreds of years to be GUARD DOGS and they BARK. They will climb over or dig under a fence. GUARANTEED. They will bust the planks out of a wooden fence to get to whats on the other side. They decide what, if any, commands they will or will not obey. Oh sure, they know what you want, but they have been bread to be independent thinkers, so you have to adjust your training and attitude to suit them, not the other way around, or it simply will not work. I've heard so many people say, "Why don't you just train them to...". Uh huh.... Why don't YOU just train them to. You MUST UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT the breed. Or please pass it up. Most do not. There are always mixes that don't mind Probably most of the time if accustomed to your locations weather conditions. Beagles are naturally bred for the outdoors so more than likely they should be able to withstand reasonable weather. Our English Mastiff boy puppy is 3 months old today and he only weighs about 28 pounds, we are also wondering if he is too small? Will increasing his food help him to grow, or just make him fat and unhealthy. We've tried canned food but he doesn't hold it in very long and he's running to the door. Any thoughts?? My 3 month old male English Mastiff is only 28 pounds, I too am wondering if he's too small. And I worry that feeding him more will only make him fat and unhealthy. This is our first Mastiff. Any suggestions? no they are all cut short sorry can someone hlep i what to ask a Question King Chuck Kennel sells them for cheaper last I heard I have a boxer and she loves the water After we got our son a puppy, at night we would put her into a small-medium kennel with a small soft pillow and a soft towel. We cover it up so she always stays warm, and she can get under the towel if she wants to. We believe this breed really likes to sleep in tight, close places, it probably makes them feel safe as well as warm. So this is a nightly thing, even when she goes to bed herself. If she climbs into a bed she likes to sleep under a pillow, sheet, or where she can feel you. I have two geat danes, and a 21month male baby. I have hours of video of my son sitting, crawling and playing with both my Danes. My big male dane was a little apperhensive as I had him for 21/2 year before my son came along. It took a couple weeks for him to get use to sharing my attention, he never growled, barked or anything else, he just had a miserable look on his face when my son climbed on him. Now both my male and female dane are perfect with my son, he rides them, plays wiht them, feeds them, and even walks them. I love my danes and truly believe that they make great family pets ( I also believe they are easy comparable to a lab) as we had a black lab who was wonderful with kids. If your going to get a dane know its background and start the dane and the children early if possible so they can grow together. I have two geat danes, and a 21month male baby. I have tried many different types of food and by far the best and more holstic is Orijen for large breed puppy. This food is guaranteed to put weight on within 2months. Although it is a bit pricey it is a very good food increase the food intake to about 7 cups of quality dog food like orijen. Orijen has 40% protein and 18% crude fat it is an excellent food although a bit pricey. But You have a mastiff so u have a quality dog why not feed it quality food When our boxer was 12 and obviously feeling his age we got a cavalier king charles pup. Our boxer loved him up until he passed away at 15, he loved the cavalier and it gave him a new lease of life. In my opinion, the boxer is the gentlest most protective and loving breed you could wish for and I don't believe it would matter what you put with them, they would be happy Our American Eskimo grew up with our 2 cats. He tries to play with them & will lay down near them without a problem. He does get playful by chasing them some and has gotten swatted a couple times. Overall I think it's best to introduce the puppy to the cats at a young age. hard headded like my dog...(obedience collar) or might be hard of hearing. I have a female Boxer that just turned a year old on Halloween,& she also scatches till she bleeds,The vet put her on a short term stiroid, but it didn't help, then said try Benadrill,& that doesn't work,So I need help here to,I also have a 6 MO. old male boxer that doesn't have these problem. Also another queston,My female still hasn't gone in heat. When do they start that? You can get your Pug a toy, they love soft toys, like a bear or something similar. Pugs normally are the dominant dog, male and or females, but with that in mind they are also very playful and like to get attention. I have the same thing going on,I'm not going to breed either till the second heat,I got the diapers already,But my Boxer turned 1 year on halloween & she still hasn't gone in heat,& I'm really worred theres something wrong with her.can anyone help on this? is it a puppy, if it is just leave some food for it and dont forget not to fondle it. because it will be too spoilt and get even worse I got a black and tan Cavalier female puppy when my male Blenheim Cavalier was about 4 years old. Absolutely no problems. I was there a lot at the beginning but can leave them loose in the house now since they have a doggy door to a pen. The older dog taught the puppy a lot about how to behave! I feed both my Cavaliers Blue Buffalo. The puppy loves her's and surprisingly, my adult male likes his Healthy Weight. He's lost 4 lbs since May-about 6 months--and still has a few to go. It's a long process so try not to let them get overweight in the first place! My Dogo just turn 5 months old today and is 65 months. His father was 125-130lbs. and his mother was 110lbs. Both big for dogos My Dogo just turned 5 months old today and is 65 lbs. His father was 125-130lbs. and his mother was 110lbs. Both big for dogos. She in general is a happy dog who loves to go on walks and play. She is also a cuddler and is snuggled on my lap while I am typing this. She is very flashy and gets a lot of annention from everyone. She loves everyone, including children and other dogs. She barks when someone comes to the door. Not as a guard dog but because she thinks everyone who rings the door bell is here to see her. She does require some grooming but is very receptive to my brushing her, clipping her nails and washing her face and eyes. Panzy's mom. Like many tracking dogs they have a great deal of variety in their tone of bark. It depends on what they are trying to tell you. Yes they do bark a lot. I have contacted this breeder, Potstillgold in NH. He has told me about his dogs (8 Alanos not 6) also he has said that there are more owners in US which may also be producing limited litters, soon. He certainly knows all about the breed! It was encouraging to note that he was clearly not interested in just selling his pups and that prospective owners would be interviewed and that sometimes companion dogs were also available and not only hunters. At last I have some hope that one day, I can be a proud owner too. They are how you want them to be because this is your house and you create the rules, limitations and boundaries. Be the pack leader. You will probably have to take it to a groomer to have the hairs trimmed around the butt. Or maybe have the anal glands squeezed. what food is healthy for a boerboel and how many feeds a day for a 6 week puppy your dog does not look like a maltichon....sorry. dad was a spaniel of some kind i think. glad you love her anyway! My frengle does not really bark unless DIRECTLY after a walk demanding food or when someone comes to the door. My frengle matches the description however differs only with the ears - as it took the french bulldog trait. mine is 24.5 pounds and she turned a year old today however she was neutered at about 3 months of age - i will respond again next year to say the change You will vacuum your house once a week, that'll take care of it. If you are wearing all black and pick up your dog, there is bound to be hair on you. Not so much, you can pick the hairs off with out a lint brush. Some people wanted to know how to get the silky terrier’s ears to stand straight up, some responses said it is genetic but, it is not. If your silky terriers ears do not stand up you are supposed to massage the ear in a particular manner as a puppy and the ears stand up. For my own dog Oscar his ears stick straight up because we massaged his ears as a pup, for out other dog baby, who is actually Oscar’s biological father we massaged one ear to make it stand up but the did not touch the other ear now she has cute floppy ears. And they are related. Baby’s mother’s ears stood straight up as well. Haha I intended on crating my chiuahuah as well when I first got her. We had to go get her in the middle of the night from the crate because I was afraid that the neighbors were going to think someone was dying! I think that the chiuahuah needs affection and after I put her in bed with me she snuggled up to my neck and she has been there ever since. I think I made the right choice by not crating her. If the dog is willing to do it, and enjoys it, then where is the problem? These dogs love to play and run, he is probably all the better for it. No, It has to be an English Bulldog, pure bread and papered along with a bassett hound of the same. It is recomended that the male be the bulldog, and the female be the bassett hound. I adopted a rescued Doberman 3 years ago, when he was a little over a year old. He gets along famously with any dog he comes across. In fact, he is by far one of the most well-socialized dogs I've encountered. He loves to go to the dog park and to doggy day-care where he can play with other dogs. He's at his happiest when he is interacting with other dogs. I feel like Dobies get a bad rap; their reputation is still recovering from the way they were portrayed in so many bad 80's movies--as vicious guard dogs. I'm sure a Doberman puppy would be adorable, but I hope you won't be discouraged from adopting a rescued Dobie. There are so many smart and loving dogs out there that need good homes. Adopting a rescue dog has been one of the most rewarding things that I have ever done. In my experience, rescue dogs seem to KNOW that they were rescued and are eternally grateful and loyal =) I over come the problem by feeding my bull dog on fish and rice an alternative to the raw diet and the dry diet. Gas free for 6 months now. I over come the problem by feeding my bull dog on fish and rice an alternative to the raw diet and the dry diet. Gas free for 6 months now. I have the same exact problem with my 7 month old morkie. The cats are getting more bold as time goes on, but they still need to get up on the counter to avoid the dog at meal time, etc. One cat does sleep on the bed with the dog, when she has settled down. it seems to be slowly improving. when a dog of any breed jumps up, most trainers will ask you to flick their face. this is done gently, as the point is never to hurt a dog but to be faster then then dog and do something shocking to it. put your hands together so your two fore fingers and thumbs make a diamond. you want his snout to come through the diamon, and your fingers to "flick" or quickly run over the bridge of his nose and head - avoid his eyes and all dogs eyes and again the point is to be gentle as dogs are easily hurt in the eyes and nose. the best way however, is to watch him jump a couple of times to know his body language for when hes going to jump, and if you can catch him before hes off the ground throw your hand infront of his face in his line of sight (again not hitting him just swiftly) and say NO, in a firm loud voice. i have a pit mix and he has webed feet Food can also cause those same symptoms so don't rule it out. You should look for a food with no corn, wheat, soy or beef. With our wheaten she will generaly come to a clap or a wistle and a nice tone of voice. If that does not work i walk away and she will come if you have a bond with her There are 2 "types" of Papillon: Papillon (erect ears) and Phalene (drop ears). Both are part of the overall Papillon breed, it primarily refers to their ears. Papillon puppies can go through phases where there ears may one day be up, next day one is drooping or dropped and this can vary for awhile until they finally will remain either up or down. On occassion an erect eared dogs ears may have one that does not stay up or flops over...this is rare. Also as they are teething or going through some initial hormonal changes the ears may raise and lower. There is nothing to worry about. Once an adult, their ears will not change from the final position (erect or drop). If there is a change then you should look at the health of the dog: if sick their ears will be held lower, or if mites or infections they will scratch or avoid contact with them. Really every dog goes through this. This is the stage when their baby teeth (milk teeth) are almost ready to come out. It should stop once their adult teeth come in. So when you start seeing teeth in their toys, it will stop soon. lol that is a serious question. My morkie has the same thing, it is just because of the hair around their butt. It needs to be trimmed regularly or else poop will stick to it. my Newfie/ Saint Bernard mix Weighed 70 pounds at six months I would suggest a different breed. My girl (Remington) is 8 years old. She is very good with my kids which are 5 and 3, and we love her to death. She's a beautiful dog and gets a lot of attention, but don't underestimate these dogs. They come across not to bright, but they know what they're doing. As a puppy mine took me 6 months to potty train, and off leash training was out of the question. I'm not a pro by any means but my german Shepperd I had prier to my walker hound was potty trained within two weeks and off leash trained within a few weeks. Now that Remi's 8 she's pretty mellow, but I guess she sometimes gets mad when I leave cause instead of going out her dog door to pee she goes in my room. I don't know how to stop this cause she won't dare do this when I'm home. So anyways if I had to do this all over again I would have done a little more research and went with a different breed, but we have her now and we love her most of the time. I hope this helps. Another reason to not clip them is they are very light skinned dogs, and their fur provides protection against sunburn. If you clip them short you actually should apply sunscreen if you plant to let them out in the sun, otherwise you're risking sunburn and skin cancer. The main reason I don't shave my pyr is because of his light skin. They can get sunburn, their fur protects their skin against the sun. The dog will be cooler and happier if you don't cut his fur, but make sure to keep his undercoat raked out every few days. A good coat rake like a Mars Coat King (with 22 blade) will get out tons of undercoat, and also thin the top coat a little. The thing with a Schnauzer is that they don't know their own size and limits!!! My schnauzer boy is about 16moths and he also started challenging other dogs at round about 6months that where far bigger than him. The best thing I find is to keep the dogs on leaches at first. Let them get to know each other while keeping a firm grip on that leach!! If they do get aggressive its easy to pull them apart before anyone gets hurt...but please do keep on trying to socialize him! My boy is much better now and accepts new dogs easier and quicker. there is nothing wrong with your dog it's just the way it is because at the moment your dog is process most of the food you give into milk to feed puppies. It has little for itself and more for puppies. It will regain it's weight when it stops feeding young one's.You are doing a very good job by feeding your dog continue doing it you will see the result. there is nothing wrong with your dog it's just the way it is because at the moment your dog is process most of the food you give into milk to feed puppies. It has little for itself and more for puppies. It will regain it's weight when it stops feeding young one's.You are doing a very good job by feeding your dog continue doing it you will see the result. there is nothing wrong with your dog it's just the way it is because at the moment your dog is process most of the food you give into milk to feed puppies. It has little for itself and more for puppies. It will regain it's weight when it stops feeding young one's.You are doing a very good job by feeding your dog continue doing it you will see the result. it is perfectly okay....my german shepherd tintin had erect years when he was of eight months Maybe put a fence between them and let them sniff for a while. Your puppy is 4 months old and he/she is starting to loose baby teeth and thier ears will fall then come back up. The saying is "if the ears were up before, they will come back up when they are done teething". This sounds like DM (degenerative myelopathy). Unfortunately, there is no treatment for this, but may corgis do well with a wheelchair that suspends their hind end. Currently a lot of research is being done and genetic testing has recently become available. An ideal male adult corgi should weigh 27 pounds. However, there has been an increase in oversized corgis in the past years and up to 30 pounds is not something to worry about. I have to disagree with the above poster as a 35 pound corgi is either a monster, or very obese. The better way to tell is if you can see a waist. There should be a clear demarkation of end of ribs, loin, and beginning of hips. You should be able to feel the ribs but not count them. Most pet owners overfeed their corgis, but a recent study of lab littermates showed that obesity cut the life but a year and a half. I know I love my corgis and want to keep them every minute I can- ignore those false promises from them that they are still hungry. I use an empty soda can with a few pennies inside to train my dane to stay off the couch. Danes don't like the sound of the can when you shake it, therefore when he gets on the couch, jumps up or does whatever behavior you want to break, you shake the can and they will back away. Then I keep a couple cans on the couch when I leave. I did this for several weeks now he does not attempt to get on the couch. The best food for all dogs is homemade but Blue Buffalo is an amazing dry food brand! Also, By Nature and Wellness are great dry dog foods too. This is what they do in the wild. When the alpha enters the den, the puppies urinate to show they are submissive. When you yell at them you are encouraging them. Ignore it, clean and sanitize the area, and take them outside (or to their piddle pad). They will soon stop doing it. My Rudy has done this also. I think its when he gets "happy and excited". He never does it with any other dogs or strangers. Only if we are in a playing mode. I have another dog and he never does it with her. I just think its when he's happy and playfully excited. He just turned 2 and he is starting to use his front paws almost if he's waving at me or wants maybe wants attention...but he sure is cute!!!! We live in Nv and the summers are hot...to say the least. He seems to breathe heavier in the heat after we have walked. Usually I walk early a.m. ( 5:oo or so) no it is not tears- eskies are used to being in the cold and in the snow. The eyes have a special lube that helps protect the eyes in the freezing cold. Well, if the dog is not in those types of conditions the tear duct still produces this lube and bc the eye cant utilize it, it seeps out and stains thier under eye. My eskie Keenan has had them all his life- I try n wash it w/a damp cloth every couple of days- prevent s build up. But I have TRIED all over the counter EYE STAIN garbage- and its just that Garbage! True. you get them all fluffed out like a cotton bal n then it app disappears in a matter of days! they shed thier puppy coat and grow their adult coat in aftwards- it can take up to a year to see the full results. it does help to brush them freq- keeps them fluffier! I am also allergic to many dogs. I found my cocker spaniel at the city shelter. She had a shorter, very tight coat with twisty hair which lay close to the skin. (She was an adult when I got her.) I was never allergic to her. Prior to getting her, I had brought home a cocker with a long silky coat, and I WAS allergic to him and had to return him. Lily was a joy for the few years I had her. I had a walker that did the same thing it was called COON DOG PARALYSIS. I had a walker that did the same thing it was called COON DOG PARALYSIS. once he has something to bark at he will bark, trust me. I have a 2 year old mountain cur he lived his frist year of his life with an amish family so he was able to hunt at his lesure. When I got him from my amish friend he had never been in a house heard a radio saw a tv or a mirror, he is an amazing house dog! very easy to potty train really hates to get his feet wet or dirty surefooted as all get out and sleeps in bed every night with covers and pillow he dosent care for the cold. But let me tell you can that boy hunt silent until he gets it treed or trapped, but once he has it oh boy you can't just call him off he wants the kill. So far when he hunts he has killed it himself ground hogs mainly just snaps there neck. Fine with other dogs as long as they are not agressive with him he will usally give them 3 chances of being snappy before he gets mad. He is a leader we have a black mouth cur pup about 12 weeks he puts up with alot from her more then alot of mother dogs will she came with no manners. I love my cur dog hes like the all around dog. I have 2 Miniature Schnauzers ages 3 & 4 yrs and the only time that I have noticed any shedding is during the summer when it gets really hot. But then it is only when I have not brushed out their coats for more than a couple of days. But on the rare occassion that they do shed it is very minimal. In addition to the other two answers, please make sure that your boxer stays active during her pregnancy. As active as she wants to be, don't force her to get as active as when she wasn't pregnant but if you walk her for a mile continue to walk her for that length. She will tell you when she is too pregnant for activity. And when she is close to her due date start to feed her a very nutitional puppy food. This will help with the puppy size and also give your girl extra calcium. Plus, in my experience if I gave my Dams puppy food while they were nursing they did not become "unhealthy" looking after the births and durng their first two weeks of being a new mom. This is when they will pay more attention to the baby then themselves. I believe that this is not a breed like or dislike, I think this just depends on the dogs personality. I have three boxers, 1 male and 2 females. When I give my boxers fresh water every evening and morning my male will sit by their water bowls and wants me to squirt him in the face with the water hose until he is soaking wet. On the other hand my females don't mind a bath but other than that they HATE water. Will not go into the rivers by our house or any other body of water for that matter. If you want a boxer and a dog that loves the water than take the boxer to the water as often as possible. Yes this is very normal. During delivery your dog ate all the afterbirth, and has gotten alot of nutrients from that. Make sure that she has plenty of fresh water and puppy food near by. She will start to eat it just might take a day or two. Also make sure she doesn't have to go along way to get to her food, she will not want to leave her babies for awhile. Good Luck! He may have just been losing his puppy fur..but that wouldnt last an entire year..other options would be to ask vet or groomer about it. yorkies are known to be allergic to a lot of stuff and have sensitive stomachs, so he could be allergic to his food or flea treatment, etc. Mine drops tiny clumps randomly but not much..i think it corresponds to the flea treatment with mine. The more expensive the stuff, like frontline or vectra, the better he does without losin hair. They live about 12 to 14 years Everyone asks how much grooming I put into my beardie.... 20 mins a day over the week seems to do the trick for us. You can do it while watching TV or talking to family and friends. In the mean time, shave your beardie down and start your new routine immediately. Wheat/fawn/blonde wolfies are dark as pup, but with an unmistakable fawn colour at the base of the coat. They will gradually lighten as they mature but it takes a couple of years to get to the final colour. Brindles tend to darken as they age, any indication of darker stripes on the body as pup will generally end up darker. A good breeder should tell you exactly what colour each pup will end up being; if he/she can't then run far, far away as their breed knowledge is nowhere up to spec. Few things are more important in a giant breed such as a wolfhound than a knowledgeable breeder... I was told my dog would be 7-9 pounds full grown, that was not the case he is 14 very lean pounds. It's ok I can still carry him and cuddle him and play baby (he nuzzels his head into my neck). He is strong and can run very very fast. He wears a size medium clothes. When bathing him use a detangle rinse for puppies in addition to you tearless puppy shampoo. Matts also occur under the legs I routinely check that area all the time. I took my puppy to a groomer who was related to me, she always trimmed under his tail in his little bum bum area which is the cutest when he walks with his tail up. So that area I always make sure is trimmed short, if he or she has curly hair it will swirl. Also he should have healthy stools not runny so this will not happen. Check with your pet store and vet for the proper dry food. Certain treats and table food will cause an unhealthy runny poo. I tried training on the pad and it became increasingly more stressful for all. Now that he is the size he is I am glad I stopped. If your dog is small perhaps a litter box will work. I can take my dog outside so it has been much easier. At 20 months he still needs attention paid to him when we have a lot of company (overnight or other) and they bring their large dog, it seem my dog acts out and leaves presents at the door. But the funny thing is he comes and barks at me till I follow and shows me the poo and runs away. It's almost funny but I must learn he comes first before my company. LOL I get busy and don't pay the attention to him I should. YES!!! so they can have a curly pom pom when it is curved. I had a hard time with my cavachon. Crate training finally worked for her. You have to know where the dog is all of the time. Take her out after eating, drinking, and playing. Eventually, she will get better. She does have to be watched every minute during this process. If you can't watch her, she needs to be in the crate. If you work during the day make sure you have dog walkers or can come home at lunch time. Good luck! It took us about 9 months before she was fully trained with no accidents and able to tell us when she needs to go. No, they shed on a constant basis. Thier fur is dense and needs regular grooming, pyrs are not for people with pet related allergies. After the puppy stage my dog can go from 9:30 at night till 9:30 in the morning so if you work out a schedule between the two of you it may work. I would take him to a groomer and get him shaved right down, this matting is very painful for them. After that make sure you brush him everyday. I find my dog will matt under the legs I am always checking. EVERY dog started out as a 'mutt' I hate the term purebred and people who take it to the extremes because it just goes to show that there are still a ton of ignorant people out there! Most of the breeds we have today were not around 150 years ago..... thats not very long ago. Every 'purebred' had to start somewhere. Educate yourself before you blast someone else for loving a type of dog you obviously feel is inferior to 'purebreds'. 10 month is too old for boxers for training. If you get 10 month boxer, it will be very pushy and self confident... Boxers should be taken at a very young age... KOUS i WARM IT UP IN THE MICROWAVE FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS.................IT SOFTENS IT AND BRINGS OUT SMELL AND THE PUPPY WOLFS IT DOWN.... Try to convince her its for her own good. do the training as part of a game. My Mum has a four year old male. We bought her another puppy there in June. It was a female and they get on really well. Tim is very protective of her. my akita hates cats and will chase and kill them if he can also small birds and anything like rats or even mice they have a huge urge to hunt small things so if you trust you akita with cats at some stage its going to get it My Basenji did have a curled tail from birth but some are different, It sounds like you have a full blood basenji on your hands! Basenji are very stubborn and do take some time to house train, but she will get it! Good luck to you, Basenji's are a great breed, You will have a lot of fun with her! I have a Chinese Imperial and it doesn't shed only wen you brush her hair but thats about it. I have 3 daniff dogs and no they don't slobber like the mastiff's do. The only time I see any slobber from them is right after they've taken a drink and it's dripping down their jowels. I have had three fox terriers-one wandered slowly, one ran like wild fire at any chance, and the other wouldn't leave my side...go figure As long as he's healthy and well nourished don't worry about it. It's best if he's lean. It puts less stress on his joints. As he gets older and slows down he may put on some weight. It's hard to help them lose the excess weight. Seriously? Who cares if they are simply a cross bred dog? They are simply great dogs! Maybe you should try to own a mixed breed dog instead of worrying if you can say that your dog is a purebred and then you would know that mixed breed dogs like a boxador is a great dog to have! I have limited knowledge of the cane corso but years of general dog knowledge, training and showing. The thing that concerned me about your post was you. Your attitude/hesitation will be felt by the Cane. I would be concerned how it would be interpreted. If the humans in their lives don't dominate - they will. I believe you will love the dog and he will serve you well but he must be consistently handled by everyone in the family. I have a papitese (maltese/papillion) and the groomer I took her to did the same thing. I was livid! My poor Molly was embarrassed, she knew she was naked. This was done to her at the end of September, it's now December and she's grown out about 4-5 inches. Next time I will take in a picture and give strict instructions. Hope this helps. 2 to 4 puppies are average. we had four one was only 2 ounces. They all lived we tube feed the little guy every four hours for the first week. usually you get puppies at 8 weeks and older so yes your getting the puppy a little bit young. Feed him/her warm rice, & or mac & cheese also luke warm. Our Huskey loves them both! He likes to eat salads too with blue chees dressing. He likes to eat around 5ish just after we finish eating or about the same time. That way he is part of th family, and they smell food cooking like every one else and he gets in the habbit of eating his dinner and of course he will eat snacks in the AM & thru the day and talk to him. No, you should choose a calm male akita, generally they dont get along with same sex. well you can care her out side and care her around the block and she will get use to it.(i have ALOT of experice) well you just put so dropps of water in his food so it gets kind of wet. first tell the vet. well you dont have to worry that much, but f you see something wrong tell the vet. well from that i am conserned that is a REALLY bad habit, you should tell your vet fast. When I was a kid we raised puppies for the Seeing Eye and most or them were German Shepherds. When we would get them at about 8 weeks old, they always had at least one floppy ear if not both. The ears become pointed on their own, but rarely at the same time. I would expect your dog's ear to stand up straight fairly soon! we had a pomeranian that just passed away about 2 weeks ago..., and she would always shake. she would be scared sometimes, but when she was cold she would shake a lot and she would shake about 50% of the time. if they look scared and are shaking, it's because they probably were scared or just shaken up a bit and it just depends on the reason why. mine would also go out and eat a lot of snow, especially before she passed away. i thought it was normal. but she's done it all her life, so ya...idk. just keep checking feed him once a day and let him go out side 3 times a day and let him drink a little bit I am fostering a 16 mo Plott who had absolutely no socialization for the first 15 months of her life. As with any hound sight or scent (my sister in law rescues Greyhounds) the prey instinct is very strong, as the kitty stays calm and does not run the in the house they usually find them only mildly interesting. If you have to ask this question, you should NOT be breeding dogs. There are too many dogs without good homes in this world and you should be a responsible dog owner and not add to this problem. of course he is . he is very independent social and loving. you would be glad owe him play feching with him labs just love this game no,german shepherds are playful and full of energy they cant do without a yard yes,gsd are suitable for both. but it depends on temparature yes, gsds are great with children well, grs are very friendly with humans and dogs and if it is SEVEN years they would be best friends so please dont separate them because he would be very upset.as i know grs are very kind so they would be not willing to attack but i am afraid he would not eat or drink and can soon die.soits my request DONT SEPARATE THEM Try giving your Pap something to chew on, such as long-lasting treats. He may be itchy, or have fleas. First, try washing him with dog dandruff shampoo. If that doesn't help, try using some flea treatment. If all else fails, he may just be plain ol' bored. Try playing with him more, or taking him to the park. Try to keep him entertained, by playing games such as; tug o war, chase, fetch, etc. Good luck! :) Don't worry, his fur should be completely mature by 1 year, give or take. His fur will continue to change throughout his entire life, so he's perfectly normal & on track (: Some paps don't get their man coat until 3 years old. He may never get quite as long of hair as other paps, but it all depends on their genes. Its perfectly normal, common, and nothing to be upset about. (: This is normal. Try offering a chew toy, or a long lasting treat for your pap to occupy itself with when licking is inconvenient. (: They can. If you wash them 1-2 times per month, brush daily, and vacuum, it shouldn't be an issue. It depends what season it is, what the temperature is, stress levels, genes, etc. (: Only a few paps get their coats in earlier. Most paps take 1-2 years to fully mature. It's perfectly normal to take up to 3 years, and is nothing to be upset about. (: 1-2 years is considered an adult. Ask your veterinarian for advice on when to switch nutritional foods. (: Exercise is important. Make sure the children are nice around the dog. Your pap maty need a lot of time to get used to children. If paps aren't raised around kids when they are young, sometimes paps will never be kind to children, and will always view them as a threat. It just takes time. My Eskie is a rescue. She was 4 months old when I got her. My eskie, Wyakin, loves cats. When I visiti my sister, who has 3 cats of her own, Wyakin gets very excited and wants to play with them more than her toys. She has adopted the youngest cat as her own. Wyakin walks in the house and can't find the youngest cat fast enough. I think when Wyakin was at a neglectful breeder and before the humane society took her, parents and littermates to the Dutchess County SPCA, that maybe there was some interaction of cats. Wyakin sees a cat on my property and she wants to play. I hope this helps! I love my Eskie. She is a heart bandit. Eskies are highly intelligent. I always tell people not to let that cute and innocent face fool you for a second. She is smart and can figure out a problem in a heart beat. ENjoy! It depends on the weight. My Vet say 1/4 cup for every 5 pounds, twice a day. My Cav is about 10lbs so I give him 1/2 cup in the morning and another in the evening. PLEASE DO NOT BUY A DOG! There are hundreds of thousands needing homes. Purebred included. Please look for breed specific rescues and check www.petfinder.com as well as your local humane society and animal control facility. I volunteer with a rescue group and it is heartbreaking to see young, beautiful, perfectly healthy dogs and cats be put to sleep daily. Responsible pet ownership is a big commitment and if you are concerned about shedding, I feel you should determine if you really want a pet first, then, do some research about the breeds you like. There are some very cute small breeds that don't shed or shed very little. Contact a local rescue group and ask for their help. You'll save a life by adopting and you'll have the benefit of knowing something about the dog before adoption, in most cases! Thank you!! ALWAYS SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET! I would definitely say no. If you are "chill" this is definitely not the dog for you! They are awesome dogs but not "chill" in the least! Mine is almost 9 and he's still wide open. I love that because he keeps me active but a lot of people wouldn't want as active, alert, and energetic dog. I recommend doing some research about breeds that catch your eye and then find a breed specific rescue group or contact a local rescue group in your area and ask for help. There are so many homeless animals, purebred included, so please try to adopt. You can adopt any age, size, shape, color, breed - you name it! Check out www.petfinder.com and you local humane society and animal control facility. Responsible pet ownership is a big commitment of time, patience, love, money, and most of all, understanding and appreciating the pet you choose to make sure you both have a long, happy life together. Animals are not disposable and getting a pet should be well thought out and planned. No, it's not. Technically there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, only dogs that have a lesser effect on allergy sufferes. Those dogs include Yorkies, Poodles, Shih-tsu, Maltese, Bijon Frise, etc. Saint Bernards do not fall in that category. Yes, that's fine. Make sure you give them a bit of love and excercise late though ;) Hello There, Why not another Weimaraner? We have two and it works out great both already know the do's and don'ts of being a Weim. If it's a differant look issue you can if she is a grey you could go blue. Of course I am bias'd as we not only love our two weimaraners we are breeders, and because of my customer's I feel it safe to say that many have 2 to a home and love it. And about a male or a female it could be a personal choice, although I have found that a male tends to let the female lead and he follows at least that is the way it is in our home. The best of luck in your quest for a pal for your little girl. If you are truly thinking of getting another dog please feel free to check out our website at tracieblue.com even if you don't choose one of our puppies maybe it will give you an idea of what type of friend that you want to bring into your home. Again, Good Luck and Happy Holidays ! Our Bordoodle, Barnie, is a rare sheding dog. He is loosing only little fluff. In his litter their where some no and some rare sheding dogs. They are not sheding like Border Collies. Sounds like you have a jealious rottie,,,,very common. I have to put mine in her place. It becomes a problem over time. Correct the behavior. Vizslas don't need baths very often, since they do a lot of self-cleaning, if you have one, you know what I mean. You can get by with giving them full-on tub baths every six months and just wiping them with a damp cloth in between. Make sure you brush them regularly as well, to keep thorns off them and their coats shiny. i would think it's because now she is becoming territorial. So try getting her own kennel bed or the other dogs a new one. Female dogs are very territorial fixed or not. Our white schnauzer doesn't shed at all. yes, your pugs will be safe You don't need to have their ears clipped, or their tails docked. My chorkie has ears that stand up all on their own, and her tail is part of her beauty. This could be from the parvo, I highly suggest that you get a 6 month old beagle that has had all its shots that way the dog would be way less likely to be aggresive. The beagle breed in general is very sweet and even tempered that normaly don't bite unless it is a puppy. Our three bloodhounds love the water. They still get in the pool and the water is in the low 50's now in early December. I also am going through the same problem, right down to the anal gland, maybe we can figure this out together. With my dog (Buddy) he also is constantly pulling and licking at his bottom. I feed him ceaser wet and dry, I dont know if it is the food as ;he is 3years old and never had this problem before. I am goig to elimante this food altogether and go for a simple diet as suggested, I have already had him on antibiotic and antihistame. At the moment I am giving him a antihistmae just to try and control the iching(not fleas hes on revolution) please any suggestions???? PLease don't call your dog a bitch My boy is 16 weeks old, he is 14 inches tall and weighs just over 21 pounds. They all grow at different rates. What kind of a response was that first comment. People ask questions to get proper answers. Size depends on the size of the Beagle used for breeding to the French Bulldog. It all depends on the dog and the parents. I have had very few actually bark a lot but most have hardly at all except while playing. I would believe they are just now ready to set dominance. You have to let them work it out, just like you have to let kids do the same. We can guide them but when we aren't in their site they will do it anyway. I'm sure they will work it out! Happy Holidays! Somewhere between 8-12 is average. There is a lot of contributing factors, as with any breed. That's just an average with my own experience breeding them. It's an aesthetic thing. Some people say it makes them more impressive looking! I have to use a prong collar on my boy. He too is very gentle but STRONG and can be stuborn. As far as in home home, Jack responds very well with a firm "no" or "out". I belive that consistancy is key. He is so sweet and wonderful with our children and their friends and wants to please. blue buffalo is a great food to feed I have an Alaskan Husky in Louisiana and She doesnt mind the hotter climate. but I would make sure she always has shade. They will adjust to it. she should run in the night time due to it being cooler so she will not over heat. I grew up with an ACD and while I was only a child she knew to listen to me. I think what worked best was just giving her tons and tons of positive attention when she did things I liked. I never really had to tell her not to do things because she just wanted to please me. My mom would freak out when people would leave the house or when people who were scared of dogs came over. Often my mom would hold the dog by the collar and try and hold her back. The dog would sense the tension and get more upset and want to herd or control the company. I on the other hand treated the dog with respect and expected her to behave. I gave her specific instructions which I held her to, but then I praised her strongly when she followed through. We would always practice new behaviors with treats before she was expected to do it with company. Another example of my dog knowing how to behave based on the person is when our neighbors 3year old snuck outside. Our dog managed to jump our fence about the same time the 3year old made her run for it. The neighbors were afraid of the dog and the dog knew it. She always barked at them and sorta kept them in check. The neighbors finally realized that the daughter was in the yard when someone looked out the window to find my dog and the 3 year old curled up together. The 3 year old wasn't scared of her and so everything was okay. The neighbors, afraid of the dog, had to ask my mom to come and get the dog and the little girl. So, a lot of it is about how you hold yourself and full through. We were never violent with the dog, so showing the dog you are boss doesn't mean being mean or hitting or anything like that. I would throw a frisbe or a ball. Even if it is just a short distance the dog will do it over and over and over. This will tire him out and calm him down. it all depends on your personality, if you are more dominant personality then get a male but if you have a more submissive personality then get a female. but for first time brittany owners i recommend a female,. My female Sadi was very calm and didn't show aggression unless her big brother Mac was exited about a stranger in the yard or someone knocking at the door. After he passed she rarely barked and always greeted strangers kindly. I believe that the females are more calm and gentler then the males. Although, if provoked she could be a tough cookie. Trust me, if a burglar came to your house and saw or heard your girl I doubt that they would enter. I have a large property and very few people would venture onto the property when they saw my Dobe's in the yard. Most stayed in their cars and asked if it was ok to get out! I just lost my little girl Sadi. I swore i would never own another dog. Well, we just welcomed Madi (combination of Mac/Sadi) to our home. I can only hope she is half the girl Sadi was! P.S. The sight of a Doberman alone will deter intruders. male would be better always to avoid breeding HOW OLD IS YOUR BABY? MY OLD BOY HAS ARTHRITIS AND SOME DAYS HAS A PROBLEM WALKING. HOW ARE HIS KNEES. IF HE IS YOUNG COULD HIS BLOOD SUGAR BE LOW? We just recently got an Ori Pei puppy named Rose, she was 4 months old when we got her and we have had her for about a month now. She is the sweetest dog, and has such a great personality. She did very well with house training and is learning commands very quickly. She is a bit of a goof ball and is always making us laugh. She does great with other animals, she loves to play with our Golden Retriever and LOVES to chase our 2 cats, but is VERY gentle with them. She is a great addition to our family and we instantly fell in love with her. She was a little shy at first when we got her, but she has come out of her shell. I would recommend this breed to anyone. She is very quiet and rarely ever barks. Much better would be a Sarplaninac or even Caucasian Shepherd Dog, tornjak is smaller and not so "sharp" as those two when guarding livestock for example. if you wish to get one of those dogs look for them in Europe (European breeders) as there is a big difference in a temperament between north American dogs and European dogs. Sarplaninac ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%A0arplaninac) can be founded in Macedonia , and they have a good guarding temperament. here is a few links : http://www.sarplaninac-jozo.com/ ye cuz if u at least buy the shep at a pup it will be used to the fact that the pugs are their My girl loves to go to the dog parks. She does get timid around dogs that are larger than her so keeping yours around smaller dogs may make it easier. Definitely keep walking them and getting them used to people and places. Stanfordshire terrier and old style English bulldog Yes, My rat terriers shed alot but its very easy to clean up. But you could also help if you put virgin olive oil in thier food to keep their coat shiny and to manage the shedding. Yes, try to change his food completely - and immediately. Make food for him from boiled patatoes and ordinary liver paste, to add a taste he likes, but not too much liver paste. He probably has got too many artificial antioxydants in his dry food, bought as dog pillets. No dogs or cats can keep their healths on that poisonous stuff. (BHA and BHT) They add it just in order to have the dog or cat food as long time as possible in the stores. Stop it from you read this, and give your dog something HEALTHY, something natural you yourself is making for your best friend ! Love from Tine, Denmark. Yes, you should wait one more week. You really should wait longer though. Unless you want a puppy that is really bad at not biting! My mini Aussie just turned 12 weeks on Monday and we had a vet visit. She was 12.5lbs. It sounds to me like you have a toy Aussie, and he will probably be a lot smaller as an adult. It's also possible that unless you got from a reputable breeder that he was crossed with a toy dog. The general rule of medium sized dogs is at 14 weeks old, whatever they weigh, expect the adult to weigh double that. So my mini Aussie should be about 28lbs as an adult since she still has 2 weeks of growth before the doubling period. our 4 month old wasnt very hairy but we had her trimmed by a groomer and now her hair is thickening up well they would ride in a backpack if the dog could see...they don't mind enclosed spaces...they seemingly can run all day, but they are small. I am currently teaching mine to squirrel hunt...or maybe she is teaching me anyway she loves hunting and is very good at it working the area efficiently, v. smart, cooperative always (in the field), super fast and agile I am not a huge fan of dogs but since my gf brought her 7 y/o in I have been amazed by this breed. I also have a Shorkey and battle matts. It's just par for the course. We both enjoy a nightly brushing. But for her matts I use a comb. Take the matt as close to the skin with your fingers as a barrior and gently with the tip of the comb try to untangle the matt. Your fingers will stop the painful pulling your sweet pup is protesting. Also have your groomer cut away the excess hair around the butt. It will be more comfortable for your sweet baby! Good luck! It sounds like he may be frightened ? Try playing calm classical music in the car. Does he want to jump in the car and go with you? Take him out for a burger and a milk shake so he has a positive association with going in the car. Shepards like to sit up front in passenger seat or back seat with the window partially opened, they like to see and smell where they are going. Our dog Bo (boston terrier) also sometimes gets a little nippy. And even once attacked my boyfriend. I think its a nervous reaction. because i notice it only happens when he feels scared or nervous. i also noticed he is sometimes skittish. IDK why because we don't hurt him, I think its a boston thing. I have a 2 months old A Eskimo dog and his ears are pointing. I don't know what happen to yours... your Dorkie's hair might be the long hair dacshund. I am owned by a dorkie too. He is short hair daschund and has hair like the yorkie. He does not shed but i have the groomer give him a puppy cut. Maybe that is a good solution . We had 2 Elkies (brother & sister). Neither was bad about chasing cats (and we have 1 cat also). In fact, they were quite laid-back and when the cat would try to tease/play with them, they usually just stared at him or just shifted positions. It was entertaining to watch. There is a ghost. i had the same problem, but we now have two dachshunds.one female and one male. our breeder reccommended that, because sometimes two males can fight for dominance. hope i helped :] In chocolate Shih Tzu's, the nose usually does darken as they get older. However, what you saw may very well have been a scar on his nose. If he has other litter mates, they like to play with one another by nipping and biting. Occasionally, they will leave a little scratch. It usually heals up with little or no evidence of the bite ever happening. to answer your question yes this is typical. People don't understand the difference between this breed and other shedding breeds. These types of dogs have hair more like a human than fur like other animals. Even humans shed on average 100 hairs per day. So yes they absolutely do shed everything sheds. you may not notice because of many possible reasons. The fact that they have hair not fur means that they have much less allergy inducing dander. The key to living with a dog when you are allergic is to bathe them often vacuum daily use some sort of filtration system (non-ionising) you should be fine. I am very allergic to dogs, I have 3 yorkie-poos and dont have any issues. We are on our second GSP - and the answer - they can never get enough exercise!!! just make sure they get water!!!! They can go on for ever !!! never worry. hi im ten years old (no kidding) and if your dog seems to feel that way about you you need to have more control in her life like making her watch you eat before she does. and if she tries to growl at you just turn away and stand there like you are much more important than your dog. if you dont already take control of her daily schedual like feeding time and walks. also i recomend you watch the channel animal planet and watch the show called ''its me or the dog'' with victoria stilwell if you dont have that channel just go on the website animal planet.com! bye i hoped i helped hi im ten years old (no kidding) and i have an ACD of my own he absouluty loves the water! so if you have a pool thats no problem. my uncle goes hunting but i have no knowladge of that but if you get a dog that quiet most of the time you can train him not to bark at your prey. i reccomend you go on to animal planet.com or watch the channel to help you with that. i hoped i helped and yes im experienced. i may be ten but i probably know more about animals than an average adult. bye! Don't know about the licking of the couch. As for the anal gland, do you have your dog's anal glands expressed? Yes it is as disgusting as it sounds but it does help. If you get your dog groomed at a groomer they usually do it with the grooming. There is a way to do it yourself but I always felt the fee for the groomer or the vet was well worth it! If you feed your dog canned food it makes the anal glands fill up faster due to their stool isn't as hard when they pass it and doesn't open the glands up very well. I have a male and female Brittany, and my male is friendlier and seems more intelligent\trainable. He listens better and since the breed is known to be a little timid, I think the extra testosterone helps. Innova puppy. Great food my cavalier loves it and we have no problems with loose stools. Innova Puppy food. Our three month old has been eating it since we got her a month ago,she loves the food and needs no additional supplements. I researched thouroughly before I bought and it seems to be one of the best for the breed. Yes, single dew claws Akbash dogs have a winter undercoat and shed a fai amount Akbash dogs have a winter undercoat and shed a fair amount my eldest daughter has a toy cup chi, and Sasha my German Shepherd adores her. Boston Terriers are highly intelligent and will try to take advantage of your every situation. They do, unfortunately, tend to bite when they play. You're doing the right thing by showing her she is not the dominant force in the house, however, her kennel/crate should never be used for punishment, as this is considered to be her "safe" place. I understand you may be putting her in there so she will calm down, but it is taken by her as punishment and should be avoided. When she starts to bite and display aggressive behavior, get down on her level, as you would a child, look her in the eyes and pinch her muzzle shut and give her a stern "no. no bite." Only hold her muzzle shut as you're talking to her, so it should be just briefly and quickly. Then, walk away from her. She will learn quite quickly that by biting, playtime is immediately over. Additionally, the person she nips should be the person to discipline her, and it should be done at the first nip, not waiting to see if she will do it again. I've trained several Bostons with success, and am frequently asked by my friends to help them with their doggy problems. I hope this helps you. Our standard does well with us being gone all day at work. We give him good exercise outside before we leave in the morning, and then LOTS of exercise as soon as we return. He of course gets plenty of attention in the evenings. He shows no signs of anxiety when we leave, or being anxious while we're gone. Sure, this isn't the ideal situation, but even so, our poodle is quite social, playful, and healthy. I fully believe the emphasis on exercise is a big part of it. My male, black pug is 9 1/2 years old. He also has a tumor on his back and needs surgery to find out what stage of cancer he has. I am trying to get help to have the $1,000 surgery. He is one of two pugs that I have. But he is my 1st pug. If I can get help, then I will definately have the surgery. Otherwise, his life may be too short and I cannot bear to lose him or my other pug. take her to the vet My heart goes out to you and your newly acquired best friend. On our ranch, we've had many blue heelers and they're amazing companions. We now live in town and the heeler we have now we raised from a puppy. She's always been timid around tall men, but seems to have no issues with women or children. Heelers are known to be a "one-man dog", but in that respect, our experience is that they more than want to please everyone, not just "the one". As for the "unknown" history of your dog's past...it's never too late to turn it around and give them the life they more than deserve. A lot of patience, smiles (yes, they do notice facial expressions), kind words, key words (in case of naughty behavior), and just plain love is probably just what your heeler needs. I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you. I know in my heart that you will find that you made one of the wisest decisions to adopt a heeler, even one with an "iffy" past and I pray you won't be dissappointed. Have you taken him to the vet to check for mange or some other dermatitis? If there is another dog around with mange it is highly contageous. Eskies get hot spots and intensely itch and must be brushed weekly. They matte up easily and must be brushed. I have a 10 year old eskie. Ruth i also have a rat terrier shes 2 yrs ol dand she shakes non stop to its common . also she like dry heaves also sometimes if they eat or drink to much they will do this I have a Black Mouth Cur named Dinkus. We got him when he was five weeks old and he is now Five years old. I do not hunt, however I do take him to the creek where he can sniff around and hunt on his own. He is the BEST family dog I have ever had. Very intelligent and affectionate. Our yard is not really big, however Dink gets out each morning and runs around town. He's done this since I've had him and regardless of the efforts I have made to keep him in. I would recommend getting a BMC no matter what. They will adapt to their new "pack" in no time. Our Frengle rarely ever barks and the few times that he has, it was deeper than we expected. 120lb Doberman sounds very unhealthy. The male Doberman should be between 80lb and 100lb. Anything over that and it is probably not full blooded Dobe and/or health problems are on the way, sorry! list some dog foods you are give him and i will get back to you on that thank you 1,vocal:expressing ones self w/ speech-websters dictionary 2,the Am Indian Dog was and is the hunting companion of Am Indians the ''singing'' of this dog on the hunt alerts the hunter to the whereabouts of the prey and is also a sign of enjoyment within the pack be it w/canine or human pack members Boerboel go up to 200 pounds but a well fit Boerboel at his prime will be around 140-160 pounds. Boerboel were bred for protection of the stock, the estate and the family. They have a beautiful temperament and are absolutely fearless. Farmers in South Africa will not accept a Boerboel that would show signs of aggression or any other unwanted behavior. Failure to comply would result in death. Being in Africa requires a perfectly balanced protector that will not be a threat to anyone or anything close to the family. Pitbulls are bred for fighting. Aggression is a necessity. Do I need to say more ? My Boerboel is exactly what a South African farmer would expect. PERFECT ! PS: They could turn bad if the owner is not the Alpha of the house. This breed is not for everybody. If you do get one I suggest you take obedience classes with him or her. my answer was correct why not post it I am an American Indian and a dog trainer/vet tech answer was definition of vocal and on the hunt etc.people pay me to answer questions like that! uncus226@aol.com My Rat Terrier sheds, but it only becomes alot in the wintertime. This is an easy fix though, with a bath and a good brushing he sheds much less. Male bloodhounds seem to be bigger droolers than females. Teething will make drool more but the loose lips will always leak drool at times. I have not tried vanilla but use either baby wipes or use cornstarch with oil of essence which helps with the smell. Also keeping the ears very clean helps keep smell down also. The name Lowchen is German, but it is thought that the breed originated in the Mediterranean region. HI! I hope this helps you:I have a silky terrier myself whom weighs about 8 pounds.Because of this I discovered that the breed standard of a silky terrier is about 8-10 pounds.Because your doggie is so small, she might be a Yorkshire terrier. The breeds look almost the same, only the silky terrier has a longer body and stand a bit taller. They are also known to have a distinctive sheen to their coats.Ask a veteranarian,he might be able to do a blood test to be 100% sure of her breed. But,if she's simply for companion...it doesn't matter, just her being who she is is enough! Male bloodhounds seem to drool more than females. He may be teething and drool more than usual but those loose lips they will drool quite a bit. Hi there Mine is doing the same , he is 13 weeks old and I put a colar on him and he was scrathing at it so I took it off and we have noticed balding (thining) of his hair on his neck but now I am noticing it thining on his back legs is this because it is puppy hair ? My dog has a hernia also I have a Chiweenie and 4 cats and we just got a new doxy puppy (4 mo.)who is fitting right in. Wants to play with the kitties as much as they will let her. Usually when a dog is raised with cats they will not have any problems. The Chiweenie is a little jealous but keeping the affection separate seems to work. It could be that you're dog needs a different diet (something more balanced), if it's mostly indoor those kinds of dogs tend to just shed year round. You're dog could also be stressed, however if the shedding begins to worry you, have your vet take a look as they can give you the best answer. well im not in the Chicago im in southeast Missouri area i have 2 pups they are 8 weeks old all black with a little white very tame pups and beautiful i wouldn't let them go for less then 400 dollars my email is stephenrickettshcs@gmail.com would like to speak with you thanks Our Bullmastiff had that to, the vet referred us to a skin specialist who diagnosed acne. She was treated with some tablets and we were given some specialist shampoo. It cleared up very fast and never reoccurred. Hope this helps hi, we had the same problem with our's he still does want to play and greet everyone when on a walk, but we we found the only way was to but a nip choker or some call them spiked, they look a bit cruel but they dont hurt the dog just remind them not to pull, you can get them on the net cheers we had the same problem, if its when your playing you cant really stop that because its something they do to other dogs, any other time we found that a small amount of water thrown either on him or near him works, it will stop it staight away and he or she will learn very quick why are you trimming/cutting your keeshond?? the hair insulates against warmth as well as cold.the long guard hairs waft to keep the dog cool.the only parts that should be trimmed are feet and hocks.brush daily to get rid of knots, never cut their coat By all means get a golden retriever. They will win every one over with their wonderful, gentle disposition. Mine has been my best friend for 9 years and she is adored by my 5 small grandsons Check out Redbone Coonhound pictures...sounds like you might have one of those. English Coonhounds typically do have ticking and can be blue ticked also. Check out pictures of English Coonhounds on the net...chances are that's what you have. yes dachshunds will more then likely get along well with other pets , even cats. I have a year old dachshund and he gets along great with my wife's cat, at times even protecting it from other animals. so you shouldn't have a problem with that. You will find out the male bloodhound drools more than the female. teething will make drool more also. Look at the teeth make sure not a problem in there as a broken tooth or such. Those loose lips make it hard to hold it all in. Dry bathe with cornstarch and oil of essence will help with smell. Some use baby wipes to clean and take away a bit of the smell also. You will get used to smell but if dog rubs on you others will still smell it. It depends on the dog. Many dachshunds get along fine with cats. If you go through a rescue you can specifically request a dog that gets along with cats. Some dachsunds will never bother the cats and other dachshunds will require a few weeks to adjust. Almost all dogs will eventually do okay with cats. No matter how well the dog seems to do, t's important (for the first few weeks at least) to never leave them alone together. Whether you get a male or a female dog is not important. Many people think you shouldn't have two males or two females, but that is not the case. The important thing is to determine if your dog has a dominant personality or a submissive personality. If it is submissive, or somewhere in between, your dog will probably get along well with any dog. If it is dominant then you want to make sure to get a dog with a submissive...or mostly submissive personality. Also, if you have issues with two dogs of the same sex fighting, it can help to get them spayed/neutered -- to take away that tension and instinct to compete for a mate. yes, that's fine after much research, these dogs cost ~$1400.00 - certainly not a cheap dog, but it is a breed that I believe will be up and coming. Our bordoodle has a It has a low shedding coat. He looses fluff of his black coat. Our bordoodle has a low shedding coat. He looses fluff of his black coat. Keep her diet as clean and organic as possible. Absolutely no sweets or added sweetener to treats, no grain, except rice in her food, and coconut oil, melted (1 TBS per day sprinkled in her food). Coconut oil is high in Omega 3 which animals and humans need more of as we have too much Omega 6 in our diets. Coconut oil is a medium-chain triglyceride and is a very stable oil and excellent for parasites, a soft, smooth coat, and good for the joints. Get the best quality coconut oil possible from a health food store like a Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, etc. My dog used to have dry skin which would flake and adding coconut oil, a bit of avocado, an occasional egg, a bit of cottage cheese, baked yam (like a sweet potato, but better and lower-glycemic), and lots of pure, fresh, filtered water (no chlorine or fluoride-treated water) as these chemicals are poisonous, contribute to bone loss, and heart disorders. I also do not vaccinate my dog nor have I ever. I do vaccine research on animals and humans and vaccines are just as neuro-toxic to animals as they are to humans. My neighbor, who is a nurse, has a mini-dachshund/chihuahua mix who has been vaccinated and ever since his set of shots has had severe itching and scaling on his skin. A friend of mine's labrador retriever as a pup had tumors develop upon the vaccine sites, and has had subsequent surgery to remove them. My neighbor, the nurse, had a mini-dachshund who died of Parvo the day after receiving her Parvo shot. I have two Rat Terriers. I leash trained them from an early age with all of the requisite commands, now I walk them off leash and they never run away. I go on trail walks with them and bike rides. They are fantastic and they keep up for hours. I keep my dogs inside and spend quality time with them. I think this fosters a feeling of a pack therefore they never leave me when we adventure outside. I have 2 chorkie puppies, and one of them used to get very anxious when I went to work and would pee all of the time. He started doing better when I got him a crate that he liked, as he preferred a cat carrier to a dog crate probably because it is more enclosed and makes him feel safe. I put the crate in an exercise pen and leave it open so he has is safe spot to go to. I also leave him a kong with food in it. That keeps him busy when I leave. Now he doesn't cry when I leave, he actually goes into the pen on his own and no longer cries when I go. He does get very excited when I get home, and he grabs a toy and runs around the house. I don't mind all the excitement. I let him run and pet him for a minute then he goes right out to go take care of business. Hope this helps. Good luck! I adopted a 3 year old brittany from the ABR and she was easier to train than all the puppies in the obedience classes! Everyone was so impressed, and they aim to please. She also LOVES car rides more than anything. the only time she has ever thrown up has been related to drinking water to quick. So after walks when its warm outside, I make sure to pace her with her drinking. You should NEVER rub a dogs nose in "it". NEVER. That is extremely bad advice. You should be using a crate to train the dog. The dog goes in it during times you can't watch it, at night and when you're not home. They will not go to the bathroom in their crate. Take them out immediately after removing them from the crate [carry the dog outside]. The trick is to allow the dog to play enough so that it conks out, then put it in the crate so it doesn't fuss. You're bathing her too much, and removing the natural oils in the skin. Eventually she will start getting really dry skin. You should only bath them maybe once a month, unless of course they're covered in mud! I have seen one like that. They called it a blue tri. Super cute! i have had 9 beagles growing up and never had one be aggressive toward anyone that is not a common thing for a beagle to do the breed itself is loving and caring and just wants to please his owners. please do not let one odd occurrence stop you from owning a great breed. I have a litter that should be born on or around Jan 10th. I am in NC. This does not effect the puppy at all. I have a 4 month little maltipoo girl. I also had a golden retriever. The malitpoo has a very similar personality as a golden. Very sweet, affectionate, and obedient . You will have a perfect match if you get one. My dear friend has a golden and my 4 month maltipoo loves to play with her and likes to drag large sticks around just like the golden does. It's hysterical and they will give you lots of enjoyment and love. As far as cost for a maltipoo. I can tell already that food is way less because they eat less. 1/4 cup of food two times a day. My golden ate much more. The grooming is costly but I plan to learn how to groom her myself. My maltipoo doesn't mind taking a bath at all. I started giving her baths at an early age and brushing her teeth early also. Making sure she is used to it. I hope this info helps As a responsible Rottweiler owner you should really consider not breeding her anymore, there is clearly something wrong with the female dog and a reason the puppies do not survive. It could be a genetic disorder in the bloodline. With dog food, it makes a big difference if you feed them generic food or if you provide a well balanced brand such as science diet or Iams. you might need to trim the hair shorter around the butt area. Also you may want to upgrade the food you are feeding him or give less treats or human food. you want his stools to be a little more firm and the problem is not so bad. Be sure you are cleaning him carefully any time he has a messy bottom. Is your dachy over weight? My dog is nearly 8 and used to do the same sort of thing I put him on a diet and he lost a fair bit of weight he is now much more active and has no trouble breathing. Hope this helps, it's always a good idea to take him for a checkup at your vet though just to make sure. My labradoodle was losing his coat while on cereal based dry dog food. I have changed his diet to BARF - Biological and Raw Foods. Since then his coat has been great. Check what is in his food and if there is wheat or corn or any cereals, try something that is more holistic. i think that cocker spaniel might be having some allergies.Mine had the same problem and i changed his diet and it regained its normal weight and height. Yes they will be fine! Just When your husband gets the German Shepard Puppy make sure that he exposes your Pugs to the other dog's. The German Shepard will love your pugs if you introduce them immediately. I have a blue Dane, she was very shy at first. Keep walking the dog & socializing it as much as possible. They get better & better. 7 years is actually starting to get up there in age for a dog his size, most large breed dogs have an average lifespan of 10-12 years. The pain and clicking in the knees might be arthritis, all my dogs have had it at one point in their lives, the best thing is to feed them a glucosamine pill once a day and if it's really bad talk to your vet about medication. It doesn't matter the puppy health wise with size. Buy the puppy if you want it. Don't judge a book by its cover. This might by a really small puppy with a really big heart and no health problems. I was just reading about the breed's history tonight. I don't think there is anything seriously wrong with your dog, but it more than likely picked up Episodic Falling(EF) from the King Charles side. You can look up Episodic Falling(EF) on google to find out more, but basically her muscles are locking up and cannot relax when she gets worked up or excited. I'm not sure if there is a cure, but though this might help. No- beagles tend to have an odor and they do shed. I believe poodles are recommended for people with allergies. If the top of the tail looks like it has had a rubber band round it it is normal but a bit strange looking. yes Try getting a few paper towels and twisting the end of it to a small point and wiping out the inside of his nose. Let me know if this works. I have a chihuahua and he gets like that and that's what I do. Email and let me know I know a few more things if this does not work. karritwelch@gmail.com Make sure your dog is well trained to stay with you. They are very loyal and would be inclined to do so anyway but they are natural hunters and can get distracted by small animals. well its normal but you need to clean it off, so it doesn't get infected boxadors are the best dogs in the world so back off bitch I have an American Eskimo puppy who is very active and loves to play with my two year old cat. My cat is very good natured and I spent a lot of time training him to listen to me. If for some reason he is upset, he will hiss on occasion. All I have to do in clap my hands together and he stops. The reason why I am explaining this is that not all cats are like this. My female puppy is relentless sometimes when she wants to play. She will nip at his tail when he walks by her, pounce on him and wrestle him to get his attention. They play bite and wrestle with each other just like two puppies would do. My cat even grooms her by licking her around her neck. They are very cute together. Although there are times when he has had enough playing and they can bark and hiss at each other. This is when I clap my hands together to get their attention and say "stop!". I works every time. American Eskimo dog can get along with cats as long as you train both to do so. I hope this helps! Good luck! my sister has the same dog and the same thing happens with him Their coat works as insulation against heat as well as cold. Do not give your dog even a trim. Some breeds feel the heat more than others and this has nothing to do with the length of their coat. You need to pin your dog down and make it submit to you. It's testing you and you're not showing that you're the pack leader. These dogs will continue to test you and you can't give an inch. Your dog should react according to you and it sounds like your dog is setting the rules instead of you. You need to pin your dog down and make it submit to you. Your dog should react according to you and it sounds like your dog is setting the rules instead of you. there is no such thing as miniature bulldogs.. they are the runts of the litter or made in puppy-mills. If i were you i would go to my doctor as soon as possible to make sure that your pup is growing safely and at a good rate as in all dogs females are more prone to so called "yippiness" but no significant difference should be seen I have a rescued 10 year old Shih Tzu, that had an anal growth that had to be surgically removed, and was confirmed cancerous. I did some research and found out the Vet who treated her before I adopted her also did the same surgery so it grew back quickly. This time it has been 7 months and all is good so keep an eye on the area. i have a 7 month old lab and i want to get another lab he is the only dog i have so far would it be a good idea to get a nother lab It is my understanding Shorkies like to be with their people so I would have to say your work day may be too long. However if you come home during your lunch hour it may work out for you. I would hate to see you dog with seperation anxiety as that is not good. We have a 5 year old female Lhasa who sings(howls) when anyone sings or plays an instrument. It is kind of cool except when I am trying to hear my son practice his violin or recorder. dont worry, ur staffy will have a large head soon! it can come anytime, my staffy had me worried because his head was tiny, then the next day it was huge! there will be a day when your dog has a large head, unless it is a mixed breed! Make sure you are giving him access to water one hundred percent of the time. He could be trying to make up for the lack of water he is not getting. Fresh water too change it daily. or more. I have a toy poodle who is about 12 pounds and the breeder we bought him from said he was only going to be 5 pounds but all dogs are different. I have a Toy Poodle and he loves to be with people but you could have a family member or a friend check up on him once or twice a day that may help. You have to introduce them slowly keep them both on leashes and until your sure they get along don't leave them alone together, and as for your other question you have to be like the alphadog you have to make sure your dogs know your in charge if they don't they'll think they're in charge of you but train them patiently please don't hit them or anything yes my little girl Lhasa apso has just had one Our berner hangs around the house as they just love to be around you. Even when you are not home they will ( usually) be sleeping waiting for they loved ones to reuturn That is called inbreeding,it is really bad and can cause a bunch of problems DO NOT buy the puppy,it will just end up with multiple problems and lots of wasted money. White Shepherds need to be trained as they are timid and shy by nature. My White was very scared of people when I started training her, but has overcome her fear and now, more than five years later, I am never hesitant to take her anywhere. You just need to treat abundantly if he/she does something right that you want them to do. They do not really have a fear of other dogs but funnily enough, people seem to scare them. Just persist in letting him or her meet new people all the time and have the treats ready for the right behaviour! They thrive on praise and seem to crawl out of their shell at about three years. Often, now that I think back to how she was, it is because they have a feeling of insecurity around people other than the owner. But they are very intelligent dogs and with lots of praise, will overcome their shyness and timidness. I live near Calgary and know of the only breeder in North America you can contact me for his information sandra1harper@xplornet.ca Dobermans are typically a dominate breed, however this is just a general observation. Individual dogs may be more or less aggressive, or submissive. Also keep in mind that Dobes tend to be friendly, wary of, but friendly to people. Mine for instance, tries to run up to everyone she meets on our daily walks. But she does not tolerate them if they get too friendly with me. Take a look at your dogs overall body language; are her ears pined back, is her back arched, are her pupils dilated? Is she relaxed or tense? and don't for get wagging tails can also be a sign that the dog is unsure of the situation. You must also evaluate the way you act in these situations because your dog is in-tuned to even you most subtle actions and energies. Most importantly remember it is hard to evaluate your dog's behavior from a quick blog on the Internet, or phone call to the breeder. Your best bet is to talk to your vet about your dog's behavior. take a long walk with both of then together... you will will surprise. I would think a golden retriever is a god do not only is it a nice dog it well make you guys a complete family. I have had a 6 month Yorkiepoo for 3 months now and he hardly ever smells. When he does, I give him a bath. I don't see this as a problem. Ours is 25-26 lbs at 16 weeks. Not sure if this is normal, but we were also curious as he seems a bit small. Ours does not shed. He has very short, fine hair and we haven't noticed it rubbing off anywhere. He is only 16 weeks so maybe that will change! My wire fox terrier is also 14, almost 15 and has the same symptoms. It has been getting worse. Now he drags his legs onto his toes to the point where his toenails are so worn down that they bleed a little. I am not sure if it is just old age. He also has bad cataracts and can't hear very well at all. We did the allergy testing year ago and he has a special diet of canned Science Diet food supplemented with Science Diet dry food. We stay away from beef because of the allergies. I don't think it is food related. It is almost like a nerve/muscular problem with the hind end. It sounds like a food allergy and wire foxes have a tendency to be allergic to certain foods. My dog also has an oily coat, so I don't think that is too unusual. He does not have the moles or boils though. Good luck with the mystery. I would be careful about frequent bathing for the dog. I try to limit it to no more than once per month. We live in a dry climate also. I would think your dog would need a source of protein like chicken, fish, eggs, etc. I stay away from beef as my dog is allergic to it. He does love chicken and turkey though and it is easy to boil some up for meal times. They can be related to food allergies. I stay away from beef as my dog is allergic to it and since it is in most commercial dog foods, you have to read the ingredients. I use Science Diet chicken or turkey. We have had some struggles with ear infections. Keeping the ears clear of hair helps. The groomer cut the visible had and pulls the hair further down the ear canal. It can be difficult to keep the ears free from infection. My wire fox has never really gotten along with other dogs, much to our dismay. He is protective of our family members and also gets jealous. When I visit my Mother, he has to wear his soft muzzle when he is around her very friendly corgi. He is a very insistent hunter and sees most other animals as prey. He has caught and killed birds, prairie dogs, squirrels, little bunnies; just about anything he could get a hold of in the back yard. He is very proud of his skills and takes his prizes into his crate and lays on them. He is a character. keep the am staff with something to keep him occupied such as a feama bone from a cow, they are very chewy.. if they have something to keep there attention you will fine, also reinforce when you catch them with something they are not suppose to have En bed t that its wrong what they have or is chewing on. keep the am staff with something to keep him occupied such as a feama bone from a cow, they are very chewy.. if they have something to keep there attention you will be fine, also reinforce when you catch them with something they are not suppose to have En bed t that its wrong what they have or is chewing on. Sometimes problems with the back legs may not be a skeletal problem. Your dog may have an internal problem as with his spleen, kidney or liver. But let us hope this is not the case. A 'specialist' vet needs to be consulted. I have a 3 month old chihuahua we put on music in the living room, while she is in the crate. She thinks people are with her and she is fine now. Hope it works out for you. Hi, I just purchased my cavapoo "Brady" 2 weeks ago! I am so attached to him already! Typically, Cavapoo's are not yappy at all they are very friendly, but really likes to be cuddled a lot! They are easy to train, Brady is only 4 months old and he is trained already on basic things. Good luck! Let some one else drive the car and you sit in the back with him. Every time he starts to get excited simply redirect his attention and let him know you don't want that behavior. GSD are very intelligent it won't take long for him to settle down. Hi i have a 4 year old weimaraner, we now have a 1 year old labrador, both female and get on like a house on fire, they love to run and play together when were out and cuddle up together to sleep. the lab seems to have calmed our weimaraner down just a little. i would`nt get another weimaraner unless you have energy to go with them. hope this helps. Try changing the food you are feeding your pet. Also, too much corn starch is often the cause of skin irritations in K9s. I'm in Mississauga, Ontario Puppies are coming Feb 2, 2011 Check us out at www.tiestosbulldogges.com He may have allergies, to his food, pollen or dust. Check with a vet to be sure. Sometimes the dog does not make the breed standard when it comes to "Floppy ear."Some breeders and owners as well use toothpicks or Popsicle sticks to make the ears stand up. This technique will only work when they are pups. Owning many Australian Cattle Dogs I can tell you that your dog's behaviour is not unusual for this breed. Heelers are renowned in Australia for being one owner dogs which means they tend to listen to and bond more closely to the more dominant member of the household. They are extremely intelligent and will try to dominate what they perceive as the weaker member of the pack. Because you feel nervous and uncertain your dog will pick this up and will not show you the respect you wan't.You have to change your behaviour by becoming more assertive and confident. If you give this breed an inch they will take a mile.Do more things with the dog like walking on your own with her, feed her, take her to training and make sure that the things that you do with her are on your terms not hers. And remember be confident and firm with her because if you don't then it will be harder for the two of you to bond.Remember that these dogs respond to firm, calm confident owners. And don't worry i'm sure the dog loves you but she just realises your easy to push around at the moment My chihuahua does the same thing she is amost 2 I think that it will be a good idea if you really want him.But remember,he may experience a few health problems.Just be ready for anything that happens. I have a cavapoo and he does become a little yappy in the evenings but apart from that he is perfect! I would highly recommend you to get one as they are a bundle of joy! And yes, they do love cuddles and attention (they also like to spoon in bed!) i actually found your question when i Googled to see how much they go for, but as i'm writing this, i did find it on another website. i do know, however, that they have to be a lot because they are extremely rare. there are only about 100 in the US and only 2 breeders here (one in California and one in Alaska), otherwise, you have to go to Denmark or Sweden to find them. =/ so, they cost about $1500, but cost of travel or shipping is not included. http://www.stabyhouns.org/breedfaq.php 10-12 Years stay down I have a year old Redbone, about 50 pounds, and his ears are also too short, and a little too high on his head. His ears don't extend all the way to the tip of his nose -- they are about 2 inches too short. I guess he won't be pronounced best in show anytime soon. Your lab may be a little too heavy or in need of more exercise. These dogs need to have room to run and stretch out their leg and hip muscles out really well. post pics or send them to thebulldog@nikonmiami.com please!!!!!!!! SHE IS PROBABLY DEPRESSED AS THESE DOGS ARE KNOWN TO BE VERY CLOSE TO THEIR ORIGINAL OWNER. I have a beagle and my little sister does not like dogs. She doesn't like being around them but a calm dog she can deal with. So an older lab would be great or smaller dogs. I feed my Maltipoo which is 4 pounds, a cup a day of food made for small breeds. I have a 5 month male cavapoo, we were on his case every 20 mins to use the garden and he had only 3 accidents in the first 2 weeks and we can honestly say that was down to us getting distracted. He is perfectly clean now and woofs to go out to use the garden. He is also crated at night and goes for 8 hours without a sound. Our other dog is a Golden Retriever who is very quiet, doesn't even woof when the door bell goes so he has followed suit. Television is the thing that makes him woof, he responds to dogs or bangs. He likes to curl up with you when he is tired but otherwise he amuses himself. He loves to learn and goes to classes once a week. Lead walking isn't his best thing but he loves meeting people and will jump us. He is most adorable and cute and we feel lucky when he manages a walk with four paws on the ground. If by shave you mean razor cut I would not recommend it. Leave enough hair to keep the skin covered. You need to keep some hair to protect the dog from sun burn! As far as the hair growing back coarse I haven't seen it, but then again we leave enough hair to keep the skin covered. Use of a groomer is highly recommended. Our peke is a sweet little dog but the couple of times we attempted to cut her ourselves we reverted to the use of welding gloves. The groomer has no problems with her. Well worth the $35.00 My mini is15 and she has never enjoyed the water even with bathing. She is the only one I have had so it may just be her. Although, I don't know that their small feet make them the best water dog. Hi, I have always had big dogs, I have a 12 wk old cavapoo pup. He is gorgeous and he is a lap dog, his bark is yappy against the big dogs but not like a yorkshire terrier. He loves to be around peole and loves my special needs son. He requires lot sof human contact and gets very excited when i come back from popping to the shops love him, you wont be disappointed if your a dog lover and want a cutie to cuddle !!!!! I switched to Natural Balance Vegetarian formula along with only treats I've 'smell tested' on him. My home is mine again! My chiweenie uses the pad, but when she thinks it has been used too much, she will go on the floor right next to the pad. I would suggest maybe putting two pads together or changing the pad more frequently. Our American Eskimo loves our cat. they average 4-7 puppies a litter My chihuahua is 11 yrs. old and 4.5 lbs. She was stiff in her hind parts and seemed like she was hurting. I started giving her Zija each day when I drink mine and she's completely different. She walks and prances like normal now. See my website at Cathygeer.myzija.com or call (931)261-9008 once I won't sugar coat it, I've broke 3 vacuums with her hair in the spring. I now have a Dyson and it can handle her shedding season. I live in Alaska though, so I assume she gets a very thick coat from our cold winter. She sheds for about 1-2 months in the spring, where I will brush her about once every 3-5 days, and just when you think you've almost got it all, more layers of fluff come out. I don't mind, she's the sweetest dog ever. Oh yeah, and the rest of the year it's just a mild light shedding. a weekly vacuum and brush can handle that. Hiya, sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your puppy. We had a collie cross years ago who used to take fits. The actions your pup is having is identical to his. Going stiff, shaking, vomiting and slavering. The vets identified it as epilectic fits. He only had one when he was sad or unsure of situations i.e. christmas, holidays, birthdays etc when he picked up on the change in atmosphere and got upset as he didnt understand. He couldnt be treated as he was diagnosed with emotional epilepsy. We had to be aware of his change in manner and prepare the environment so he didnt hurt himself when he fitted. He eventually used to place himself in very tight spaces before he had a fit. We just used to sit with him, stroking him and talking to him and mopping his mouth until he came to then he vomited. This was all we could do unfortunately, but he lived to the ripe old age of 14. Hiya, I have an 8 month old cavapoo and she is absolutely gorgeous. She is not yappy but does bark at things she isnt sure of. She is very intelligent and takes no time at all to train eg sit, paw, fetch etc. She was about 5 months old when she was potty trained. She is very active and loves to play, her favourite toys are teddies and balls. It took us a while to get her to eat regularly, she wont eat dried food. She loves company and hates being alone. Goes into a sulk when she has been left. She wont sleep alone as she gets too upset and stressed so her bed is in our bedroom. She is very much like a baby and she loves a cuddle and even loves a dummy (which she pinches off the baby). I hope this has been helpful to you These types of dogs loose their fur alot , due to allergies..also they dont do well with fleas.. check with your vet.. Yes when they are babies their coats are a little longer and as they grow up it becomes shorter as i have a 3yr old great Dane myself there are many colors as well I have 4 baby chihuahuas. They are 5 1/2 weeks now and I started them on soaked dry food mixed with milk re placer at 4 weeks. They didn't eat a lot at first but I would start offering food to your puppies. Mine still nurse from mom and they won't drink water yet or eat plain dry food yet. I have to feed them away from their mom as well because she growls at them and tries to eat their food. My chihuahua had her puppies 5 1/2 weeks ago and I've held them everyday since birth. They need to have that bond with humans, so they will be social. Their most crucial social development period is from 3 to 7 weeks and they need to be held everyday. Chihuahuas develop very close bonds with their humans (owners) and the mom shouldn't have a problem with you holding them. Mine didn't have a problem with me holding them but when my fiance held them she was right there beside him the whole time watching him. My female chihuahua does that sometimes after she eats or drinks to fast. It sounds like a gagging/ burping sound. If she does it after she gets excited or is in a hot climate and it sounds like she is having trouble breathing or gagging, it would be tracheal collapse which is common in small dogs, but very serious. I would call your vet and ask what he or she thought about it just to be on the safe side. Docking tails and cropping ears was originally for Dobermans used in police work or guarding work as docking tails meant criminals couldn't grab their tails and cropping ears meant potentially better hearing. However I own a Doberman with a full tail and floppy natural ears, I think he looks great! Our cavapoo is about as cuddly as it gets and sleeps on cue when you need him to. He is not yappy at all when he is home except when he plays with the cats but lots of distractions on a walk get him going. He is about 6 months old. They are SMART dogs is what I have learned and to house train them you have to be smarter. Which can be time consuming but they he always seems to get it untimately. They are highstrunch in a way and mellow- the perfect combo! They will go on an hour long walk and also lie on the couch with you equally. My cavapoo loves other dogs and plays well with them. Both of her "best buds" are very large. I think it depends on the larger dog. About 21 days total. Pre estrus bloody discharge and swelling estrus---fertile and she can be bred Post estrus All breeds are different. I raise Bichons and that is pretty much their cycle. yes, if he is still a puppy it will eventually turn black or dark brown depending on what color it is turning now. maybe not the ears but defiantly the nose get something of yours with your scent on it and put it in the cage, then take a towel and out it over the cage and that should do it yes i had the same problem, give her something with your scent on it and that should help We gave our puppy 2 - 4 Tums every day to add calcium to help the ears stand up. You will see the effects pretty quickly. The Tums were good for growth up to 2 years. Our dog trainer and vet approved this method. take her outside and tell her to go potty repeatedly until she does, then reward her with a treat, or say good girl, if she goes to the bathroom in the house rub her nose in it and so NO then take her outside to see if she goes potty around 1 or 2 This could also be a learned behavior from being cooped up in a breeder's cage or small kennel during earlier weeks. A good breeder will start their pups on puppy pads as early as 3 or 4 weeks, and teach the dogs to eliminate separate from their nesting areas by 6 weeks. Dogs who are cooped up in one small area all day will not learn to separate pooping and living areas, and may resort to coprophagia to keep their area clean. my elkound gets on really well with my two cats , we also have a terrier and she tends to chase them but my ne kinda protects them , but all dogs are different so it depends The coat helps insulate the dog from the heat much the same as it does from the cold. Cutting the dog short (except rare circumstances such as a severely matted rescue) is not recommended for this reason. They do however need lots of water and shade during the hotter times of the year. We had our GSP's tail docked at 4 months. Four reasons: 1) The gland in her tail wasn't working properly and wouldn't allow hair to grow on most of it - looked funny. / 2) GSPs just look better with a docked tail. / 3) She had trouble controlling it - she's an extremely hyper and happy dog. She kept hitting it on tables and chairs and injuring it - not to mention almost putting eyes out! / 4) The Vet didn't seem to think it would be that big of a deal to have it done. He did say that it really depends on the dog but didn't seem to think she would have a problem with it. We had it done at four months when we had her spayed and had the microchip put in. We went to pick her up two days later and she acted as though NOTHING had happened. The only trouble we had with it was she HATED the cone and kept chewing them up and the stitches came out twice so we had to have that fixed. But other than that she showed no signs of missing the tail, pain, or wanting to mess with it. Seriously. We had trouble trying to keep her calm and on the ground after having all of that done. She just didn't care! Long story short - do lots of research, get a few opinions and as long as he/she isn't more than a year or two old - it shouldn't be that big of a deal. It depends on the age / size of the dog as well as the type of food and the amount of exercise he or she is getting. My pup is female, a year old and weighs 45 pounds. She's smaller than she should be - in height and bone mass - so she's not under weight. That's about as big as she is going to get. She gets to run around outside for a bit during the day but it's winter so she's inside most of the time. I feed her a cup in the morning and a cup in the afternoon. By cup, I mean a normal drinking glass. I'm feeding her Purina Pro Plan puppy formula. I'll switch to the adult version in a few months. So - just make note of how much he/she weighs, the type of food and the amount of energy he/she is using per day. Normally, the bag gives a guideline of the amount. Your dog may well have an allergy to wheat. Check your dog food and try and change it to a hypo-allergenic one. My dog's ears started to go up at around the same time. Do some research on the internet and you will see directions for gluing the ears. My understanding is that they need to be glued until teething is over. I bought the recommended product - Jiffy Sew - that has to be ordered from Canada on the internet. I have found it fairly easy, and if you buy the adhesive remover at the same time, you can clean the ears and start over if you mess up. My dog's ears have been glued for several weeks now. They are open on one side, so I can clean them with a cotton ball and witch hazel to keep her from getting an infection. Hope this helps. Angel Eyes works wonders when used regularly. Do not irritate the eyes areas with shampoo’s, plain warm water is sufficient. I have 3 standard spoos one white, Silver and black. You can buy Angel eyes online or at specialty pet shops. Our Shichon only has accidents if he is at home alone too long without a potty break. However, this is only if he is allowed to roam the house. When gone, we generally keep him in a room of the house off the kitchen by using a baby gate and he does not have accidents in there. He was harder to potty train than our Labradoodle though. Our Shichon does not snort/snore, but does have a little underbite. Due to their facial hair you can't see it unless he bares his teeth, which, due to his nature is incredibly rare. It does give him a cute smile which is free and often. You can't go wrong with this loving dog. it doesn't matter it is normal yes it will be safe.but if you grow the German shepherd separately there will be small difficulty in taking care of them put chain on both of them well if your looking for that kind of dog i would consider that you get you a feist dog.. Be sure never to use a leash on a collar with a Morkie. Always use a harness to avoid collapsing its trachaea. I own four shelties and I can tell you that gender does not have much to do with activity level. My most energetic sheltie is my oldest female she never tires of playing fetch. My biggest male is more laid back. These two bred and had a litter of three one girl and two boys. We kept the two boys, the tallest puppy is more laid back where the shorter puppy acts more like his dad the girl seemed to act like a mixture of the two. From my experience, temperment just depends on the parents and the personality of the dog. The enviroment the puppy was raised in affects the temperment as well. For some reason, people have a lot of beliefs about male dogs that are just not true especially in shelties there really is no difference between the gender as far as how well they make a good pet. The groomer should trim her hair a little shorter around her "potty parts" Feed her puppy food - it is usually high calorie and has more nutrients. Many breeders feed their dogs only puppy food. Give angel eyes in food until it clears and always keep distilled water int he bowl. never give reg water of any kind. after it clears theran you don't have to give the angel eyes as often. Give angel eyes in food until it clears and always keep distilled water in the bowl. never give reg water of any kind. after it clears then you don't have to give the angel eyes as often. My pug puppy started doing the same thing a couple months ago. The vet recommended we clean his whole face with baby wipes and not just his wrinkles. She also told us to get an anti itch/moisturizer spray to rub on his face and forehead. We have been doing this for a couple weeks and it is beginning to subside. i have a three month old full blooded German shepherd and i got him at 7 weeks and he has one ear up and one down. mines is a wolfonyx and that is the type of breed he is. i hope i helped you out Don't be worried unless your dog has digestive problems. If he does take him/her to the vet. If not, don't fret, because dogs are natural hunters and eat lizards and such in the wild. I have a blue lacy in an apartment. I exercise it regularly if i miss a day it does get hyper in doors. It is verbal so her bark ranges depending on if she is whining for something or barking for fun or alertness. I hunt often so I still train her a lot as she is not a full year yet and set very strict boundaries. Barking and hyperness are shutdown quickly. Keep it in a crate/kennel if you are not around. . . they will destroy your things if you dont. My old English bully is 20 weeks today and he weighs 45 lbs mostly 5 per litter my BMC pup smelled it turned out she had mange I don't know when this was posted but I have a 10 year old Vizsla and she started not wanting to go up stairs. So my vet said she might do well on glucosimine and chondroiten. She seems to be doing well. 16 pounds is not that heavy mine is that atleast and is in no way shape or form obese. id say medium portions 3 times a day breakfast lunch and dinner thats about what my dog has but he does always have kibble out for him. Laying in the snow VERY common actually my pom does it all the time. Actually they are decendents of sled dogs which could explain that...i pasted a link that you might find interesting. http://www.barkbytes.com/history/pomran.htm As far as the water and shaking was he outside previously? maybe cold the water was the melted snow? either that or id contact a vet. Hope this helped! good luck:) Its never to late! just ease her into it. introduce her to it in small intervals and gradually take her further and further with it she should have no problems! GOOD LUCK! they hear things that we as humans can't hear they aren't crazy. My pom barks when she hears a car that's down the road and we can't even see the car other than that the pom may like the way it sounds when it barks most dogs should get along with a pomeranian well but i suggest getting the bigger dog as a puppy that way your pom will still have the domanance of the house and wont get to jealous and the new puppy will learn how to play with the pom without being too aggresive! hope this helped! 8 pounds seems perfectly healthy for a pom.... There are so many advantages it is hard to list them all in one sitting. They are incredibly intelligent, have a huge personality, very mellow at times and others thier a ball of energy! they really arent like any other little dog out there they arent yippy and they arent snappy thier temperment is great and they are content just laying by your side they love to love! ive had my pom murphy for 2 years and i would never suggest another small dog more than id suggest a pom! Oh Absolutely! constantly almost all the time! very common in pomeranians, mine does this as well! you have nothing to worry about! your pup is completely fine:) As a puppy some are not as puffy and fluffy. Mines hair grew with age now hes just as puffy as all the rest :) hope this helped:) Buy him treats or toys to clean his breath or teeth. So long as her bowel movements and fecal appearance remain standard, she should be ok, however reptile's carry many bacterias, so it may be a good idea to get her checked out anyways. Better to be on the safe side :) i suggest that you get a female, i have had both male and female and they were both extremely loving as all rottweilers are if you love them but females are easier to train and males do tend to be harder alot of the tim, plus if this is your first rottie then a female would be best because males are bigger and stronger. if your looking for a dog to both are good but females are usually better and if you looking for a guard dog then males are better, but its whatever you feel is best, good luck, enjoy your rottweiler :) i suggest that you get a female, i have had both male and female and they were both extremely loving as all rottweilers are if you love them but females are easier to train and males do tend to be harder alot of the time, plus if this is your first rottie then a female would be best because males are bigger and stronger. if your looking for a dog to love both are good but females are usually better and if you looking for a guard dog then males are better, but its whatever you feel is best, good luck, enjoy your rottweiler :) sorry i made a few mistakes the first time lol hey mate ive had two rotties and i live in australia so you can imagine how hot it gets, it should be fine to get just make sure that in the summer it has shade, plenty of water and if possible a little pool or something to lay in, if you have a full sized pool and your not worried about a bit of dog hair then let it swim in that too, rotties love to swim, and in the winter they grow there winter coat so just let it sleep in side the garage or make sure that its kennel is well insulated and it should be fine, if it gets really cold or really hot just let it inside for a bit if your fine with it. most rotties have german shepherd in them because they nearly went extinct, it is very common for a rottweiler to have a few white hairs, mine did and he was a pure breed from champion parents. All breeders I have spoken with say to wait til at least a year and a half. hey I had a very independent Blue heeler (same breed different blood line) named Smokey. He ALWAYS listened to my stepdad and did the same to everyone else that your dog is doing to you. I worked at a zoo for 5 yrs and thought of trying on of our behavior mod. techniques (spray bottle with a 1/3 cup vinegar fill the rest with water) when she misbehaves spray her IMMEDIATELY...timing is important so she knows what she did. that way she will associate the bottle with trouble and not you or your hand which can possible lead to biting or worse trepidation and distrust. It worked for me...Smokey even recognized the word spray! -Hope this helps I suspect the diet. Try feeding lamb and rice. It may be an allergic reaction to something in the dog's food. Are you feeding a chicken product? Many dogs have allergies to chicken, especially feathers. Sometimes, unfortunately, even feathers are used in the production of dog foods. This isn't really an answer, but I have a blue female that is around four months old with the same problem. I'm not sure if she's trying to be protective or is just scared. Any answer on this post would be great. i have a mini dachshund and he gets along with my two cats and my chihuahua it mainly depends on your cats i have a mini dachshund and he gets along with my two cats and my chihuahua it mainly depends on your cats I think that is a good pet for you to keep so you should keep it or give it away.Either way. Rotts are loving pets and is aggressive when a stranger passes by the house Rotts need a lot of care and love to be a nice and loving pet maybe he has anxiety problems.those problems are most common with the little terriers glucosamine & chondroitin, and Fish Oil Sounds like he has dry eyes. Optimmune is what our Vet had us use on Charlie. The stuff in the tube works best. Liquid meds do not last long enough. Charlie had to have treatments twice a day. My schneagle learned in 2 weeks. They tend to be very intelligent and often do not need too many corrections, but this may vary on the dog. you should try introducing him to other dogs and people in your neighborhood. I don't have any experience with a pure breed pug, but my "shug" as I call her sheds worse than any dog I have ever had. Hi, Our Springer is nine months and we had a similar problem, a colleague who is a keen dog trainer advised me to get a cane and to tap them on the nose and repeat your heel command at the same time, this has helped a great deal and she never pulls on the lead and she is much better off it! she might have worms in her stomach i shouldnt feed her milk or bred type things I would say a Chihuahua would be a good dog for you. They are small and don't require alot of grooming. They may run around the apartment sometimes but they really don't need a big field. They are also very loving and loyal. yeps buy a chew toy for him/her to chew on table scrap bones include chicken and red meat bones, right? they arent good for the dogs.. the fragments tend to harm them by entering the blood and hurting their kidneys... so dont give them actual bones, give them the raw hide ones that you may get at any pet store... yes My pup at 8 weeks had very little color other than grey, gradually over time he has the true merle markings. I think that is a common trait. My greyhuahua jumps like a kangaroo in circles around me when I come home. But just like with any other habits, consistency in training is the key. My aunt has a Shichon (female), and my family has her brother. My dog is very well trained, but my aunt's dog pees all the time, and can't control it. When she gets excited, or is cooped up for too long, after a work day. It depends on the dog, but it all depends on how actively you train. Good Luck! Make sure your treats are really good treats like bits of bacon or hot dog. Use your right hand to lower the treat and pull it forwrd about a foot in front of her nose as you lower it. Hold your left hand over her hips and give a firm hold or push if she starts to rise. Health problems like this are NOT common to the Japanese breeds, especially not puppies that young. You need to talk to your vet and inform your breeder. If your breeder is a responsible and conscientious breeder with adequate, multi-generational genetic knowledge of the dam and sire, they should be able to shed some light on the situation. You should ask your vet but my Chiweenie was never fed through the night. Technically (as my vet said) dogs are decendants of wolves and can go three days without eating. I think you are setting yourself up for bad habits. They are going to get use to that feeding schedule. I have know idea when this question was posted, but my dog just turned 14 and vomited a few times, then a few days later, I had to put him asleep. After thinking it was just an upset stomach the first two times, it then progressed to yellow bile and I took him in 12 hours later. He had an ultrasound that showed his gall bladder was distended and the doctor said it was most likely a bile duck blockage and infection called bile peritonitis. I was reading around and I thought vomit that does NOT have food and is yellow is bad. My suggestions are this: Get a blood work up when you think something might be wrong. Read up about how the liver and gall bladder work, another bad sign is pale looking feces. That indicates liver failure. Watch their energy level carefully and feed them lots of good food such as salads and fresh fruit. I think you should wait another month or so...If they don't stand up by then I recommend taking her to a vet.Just be patient.Don't tap or pet her ears to much. Also, remember that they may not stand up at all because they're may be something blocking the cartilage. I have a 3 year old Akita female, and got a male Akita puppy how is now 5 months old. The puppy challenges the older dog at every chance it gets. Nothing serious, just mouthing and jumping on her. I have discussed this with my dog trainer, and their opion is that I need to let them go at it as long as no one is getting hurt. The dogs will eventually figure out what the pecking order is as long as they both know that the humans are in charge. Female staffies wont usually have really wide heads. We have two boys with BIG heads and both are entire. One is 5 and one is 2.5 yrs Our friends have one of our boys pups who had a big head until he got neutered and then it actually got smaller! Lack of testoterone! Rabbits will eat their very young if disturbed, and I was told it was the mothers way of protecting them from danger. Also Sheep do not take their lambs back if handle by humans, so it is important not to disturb unless necessary, in a lambs case that means hand rearing them. i know you used a towel but you disturbed them and upset natures balance perhaps? Hope this helps. I would never leave my baby's outside they like to make holes with their noses and they can get out of any pen. You also have to be careful of other animals hurting them. I purchased a childes play yard for my guys when I am at work they love it and they also have a circular play yard in the kitchen that I put them between the two places they never get bored and they load up easy. saja First there is no such thing as a miniature cocker spaniel. They may be a bigger than or smaller than the standard but there are no miniatures. The standard is anywhere from 13 to 15 1/2 inches tall and should weigh from 15 to 30 lbs. Around nine months to a year. anywhere from one to seven I also work 8 hours, come home at lunch and have Lilli's grandma come take her outside mid morning and mid afternoon, plenty of toys, baby gate on bathroom, leave TV on. She still gets bored and tears wallpaper and some drywall off the wall. She is so smart and needs to be constantly played with and to be with us. She graduated at the top of her class in puppy kindergarten. She is 7 mths. old, rings bell to go out to potty, learns new tricks fast, and we love her dearly, but she just needs SO much attention. Hi! Rottweilers can be some pretty hard dogs to care for, but with a little bit of elbow grease you shouldn't have any trouble. I recommend that you watch the "Dog Whisperer" shows - they are very informative and helpful! To become Alpha, first you have to understand that dogs - especially dominant ones like the Rottweiler - need to be assured that you're boss, aka Alpha. Don't worry, dogs are "hurt" or "frightened" by this - dogs enjoy it when they don't have to worry about getting things done. Just like you wouldn't like to be left alone in the grocery store to shop as a child, dogs don't like having to be Alpha! However, if you aren't Alpha, your dog will naturally try and be it for you. You certainly do not want this! The first step is exercise, exercise, exercise! Rottweilers especially need at least an hour of exercise every day, no excuses! If you don't think you can offer this to your Rott, don't get one! They especially love to hike, jog, and swim, but a daily hour-long walk will suffice. The next step is dominance. When working with your Rott, be sure to be authoritive and never weak or wimpy. Square your shoulders, look him in the eye, and don't allow yourself to be intimidated by him if he trys to win Alpha position! A very important part of being Alpha is training. The basic "tricks" are down, sit, stay, and heel, but you can also mix and match. The main thing is that you're telling your Rott that he has to do what you say, because you are Alpha. Finally (yes, finally!) comes affection. Make sure you give love and snuggles - but only when you want to and your Rottweiler is calm! Bad times to give affection are when he's freaking over something (the best thing to do in this situation is be calm and authoritive and let him get over it himself; never give affection!), when he's excited about something (taking a walk, you coming home, etc), or when he's ordering it from you by pawing you, staring you in the eye, etc. Giving affection at these times will both undermine your authority as Alpha and reinforce bad behavior. If you can think you can offer exercise, discipline, and affection in that order, then a Rott is for you. If not . . . maybe a Labrador? My Gsp weighs 26 lbs one day before 12 weeks... no way 7 lbs My miki voluntary goes into the crate with my other dog (brittany spaniel) rather than have his own crate. He snuggles up close to the brittany. I have been so impressed with this dog breed. He constantly makes me laugh and is always so happy. Tony, Checkout http://www.amorosoxolo.com I am sure they can help you find the perfect Xolo. for retrieving game, which is probably why our bitch, named Slippy, loves retrieving balls and sticks so much!!! My two cats and the mini go along perfectly. No problems at all. I believe that they actually appreciate each other company. you should get a female Have her tested for auto immune anemia. Lack of appetite was the 1st symptom our Standard presented with I NEED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THEIR ENVIRONMENT AND INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THEM PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME I HAVE A BOOK REPORT DUE FEB 4 AND I'M ONLY 10 YEARS OLD!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! We had a male, Rocky, he died 2 years ago this coming July. He also died at nine years started vomited, and wouldn't eat and it was also liver. We were devastated. But to be back to your question, He was wonderful, he was a medium size sheltie, 17 inch, and even though he was tri color, he didn't carry the brown. so he was only black and white. We trained him not to bark. We could sit a plate of food on the floor and leave the room and he wouldn't touch it, and he knew to go lay down when we were eating. He loved the kids and loved to go camping with us. I am just now starting to look for another one. wasn't sure I would ever get another one after he passed. Before that we owned a sheltie-lab mix and he was the the same way. Wouldn't have anything else. and have never had any problem with the male. Yes, Typically they get very shaggy,, some take longer then others to get their shaggy coats Nancy Doodlesville.com the price also depends on a hairless or puff. Usually the puffs are less We have four weenie dogs and one cat . They all love the cat and try to groom him so, yes if introduced correctly they will all become friends. I think she will be ok if you feed her late at night. If you aren't sure, just put out some small dry kibble soaked in water or "puppy milk". this should hold her until in the morning. just leave plenty of water for her o drink. my chiwennie is great with kids.. I have a 5 year old niece, a 8 year old niece and a 10 year old nephew. He runs and plays and does wonderfully with them. He is very protective too. But never harmful or "rough" with them. Yes That seems a little smaller than normal, especially for a male. My dogo just made 9 months and he is almost 100 You may be thinking of a Great Pyrenees. I've shipped Xolos to Canada. I have champion bloodlines. I breed for the show ring, however from time to time I have a pet quality Xolo available. www.amorosoxolo.com amorosoxolo@aol.com These dogs are found all over the world. I've shipped dogs to Russia. www.amorosoxolo.com amorosoxolo@aol.com Excitement, I've seen many small dogs do this in excitement, some people even encourage it and even call it dancing, and say "dance fido" and then rewards them with a treat. It's nothing to be worried about. yes I'm pretty sure they'll get along fine My vet suggested feeding my American Bull Dogs puppy food for the first two years since they require a large amount of protein during this time. It is also ideal to feed a pregnant or nursing American Bull Dog puppy food until her puppies are weened at about 6-8 weeks. When I first brought my Wee Chon home, she chased my cats & barked at them. Now they ignore her & she leaves them alone most of the time. She doesn't seem to want to hurt them - she just wants to play. We have a stray cat who stays outside all the time &, when Maggie gets outside, she & the cat play together. She jumps up on him & nips at his ears. He just stands there & purrs while she plays. He even runs to greet her when I take her outside. I think it is all how the animals are raised & trained. I have several cats & they all get along 99% of the time. My Wee Chon is 10 weeks old now & has brought so much love & joy to my life! Try throwing the cat out the door! Hi, I have an English Springer Spaniel pup who is 12 weeks & 1 day old. She was 7 wks old the day after I got her and I could have picked her up 4 days earler which would have made her only 6 weeks & 3 days old which I think is far too young. Also, the breeder told me that the litter had been taken away from their mum when they were only 4 weeks old!!!! In my opinion pups should be with their mother full time up till 5 weeks, then the weaning should start & I think 8 weeks is about the right age to rehome a pup. However thats not really your problem as the rehomer. Good luck & best wishes with your new pup, You have aussies that are diluted in their coat. It is one of the most common mismarks in Aussies. Here is a website that talks on the dilute gene and has lots of pictures. http://www.ashgi.org/color/dilute_aussies.htm My pom's companion is a ridgeback hound. Both my dogs were strays, so I don't know if either are full blood. However, they certainly have the looks and personality traits. Although both are female, they get along surprisingly well. The pom is about 2 years old and 12lbs, ridgeback is around 1.5 years old and 40lbs. Also, they are both tan colored. We recently adopted a year old heeler mix & she'd been somewhat abused & wasn't taught anything. She was very timid & piddled alot. We just showed her love and affection. Over time, as she became more trusting, I slowly started to add more agressive belly rubs, different voice tones, brushing, etc. When she realized we weren't going to hurt her, the need to please came through.... no more piddling, no more cowering & she's showed us how smart she is :) The only thing we deal with now is some separation isuues...... Just be loving, quietly firm & give it time. Good Luck ! My American Eskimo dog loves cats. However, cats do not seem like him. He has come into close contact with four cats and there has yet to be a cat that takes a shine to him. American Eskimo dogs are curious and I don't think cats typically care for inquisitive pups. I have a female standard poodle who is 9 yrs old, we've had her since she is a puppy. She is pretty aloof and cat-like (never comes! and used to run away far until we got an invisible fence). We now also have a male standard, for 2 months now, he is 7 months old, what a love! Always with me, so affectionate, so attentive. I have read that this is pretty typical male-female behavior. My advice is to pay attention to your female's subtle behavior and show her lots of love and attention. I had to look hard but when I finally did, I saw that she was quite devoted to me. I learned to appreciate the differences in their personalities, just as you would two different people. The more love and affection you show her, the more she will show you back (but remember it may be subtle). Aside from this, she has always been a good watch dog which is why I got her in the first place. I have heard that if you get a Dane fixed before 13 months it can prevent them from holding a good weight. he is still healthy just probably wont bulk out as expected. My Daniff only slobbers after he takes a drink. He is a wonderful dog. Squirt bottle! Plain water works great for mine, squirt him every time he jumps up and tell him NO or OFF, whatever commands he is used to. Just make sure your stern, he needs to know who's in charge! :) I rescued a 4 month old catahoula just over a year ago. She is primarily white and tan spot. she is deaf, has glass eye but no visual difficulties, she also has hip dysplasia, but a good diet keeps any symptoms at bay. she is very intelligent and extremely active. She is loyal to me and my family but very wary of strangers and has just started to show some signs of aggression towards strangers, which is proving to be a challenge. I trained her very easily using the American sign language book, and can communicate with her as easily as i do with my hearing German Shepherd. She is very much part of our family and worth every effort. They do not bark alot...They Yodel a bit, but only bark at prey generally. If you have a black mouth cur that barks, then he is probably not a black mouth cur. They are ideal for hunting for many reasons, but silence is one of the best attributes. My BMC rarely barks. Yo . Sometimes the dog's skin becomes irritated from various scented soaps. Try using non perfumed soaps that are natural. Sometimes the dog's skin becomes irritated from various scented soaps. Try using non perfumed soaps that are natural. Yes! They do. Our Schnauzer, Tobi and our two cats and other dog are all brothers! He let's the cat clean his face at night before bed. It is actually quite adorable. My parents had Schnauzers and cats and they co-existed just fine! We have a rescue named Henry. He is about 9 and we fostered then adopted him when he was 4-5. He displays this behavior and normally with just us, his family. It used to happen only at night. But it happens mostly with my daughter who is young, louder etc. We suspect he has some sort of for lack of a better term 'paranoid schizophrenia' What we do is ignore, correct, restrain. And when he doesn't act up when he usually does we make sure we praise. It helps, but he is not 100% trustworthy. Arguing, loud voices etc do not help and physically trying to protect yourself has been known to make things worth. For what its worth, he is the smartest, most caring dog I have ever seen. And our thought is, hey there are a lot of people with a screw loose too. He is loved. Good luck. I have a five month old Morkie named Bella and she is adorable:) What I found is that when she is on someones lap or in the car, she will nibble on our fingers to let us know that it is potty time. She started doing this very young around nine weeks old. Now, when she bites at our fingers we give her a chew toy to let her know that fingers aren't for biting. It's worked for us. Hope it helps. Hmm... Could she be pregnant? I had been talking my neighbor about her chihuahua and she was pregnant and had gone through spells like that. I'm not saying it is the problem though, just a possibility. that probably wouldn't be a very good idea dachshunds are bred to chase and kill small animals but if you get a puppy and socialize with the cats at a young age you should be fine well is your dog you have right fixed if so i would say go ahead and and get a girl but get her fixed it is better to have them fixed because when not fixed some unwanted behavior's come out such peeing on the everywhere in the house to mark there territory if you are considering getting another dog make sure your dog you have currently is willing to allow another dog into its home see how it acts watch its behavior towards it it is best to get a dog when they are both young and they learn to live together nicely this is what i have to say good lucky Do you by chance have a Doggy Daycare in your area? I took my Dane once a week (Fridays and she was exhausted the rest of the weekend!) it worked extremely well in socializing her both with other dogs and people. Danes are by nature also very protective. The thought of a pinch collar horrified me until someone showed me how to use it, especially in comparison to a choke collar. That will give you a lot more control and authority over your dog. A couple episodes or a book by Caesar The Dog Whisperer shows you how to hold the collar and leash so your dog knows you're the one in charge. When you're out in public you won't have to worry about him getting agressive. My Dane is now 5 and I still have to tell people - especially men - no hats or sunglasses when approaching her. If she cant see someones face she immediately goes into protection mode yet she'll be completely submissive to any other dog no matter what the size. I found reading a lot on the breed was helpful too. They are beautiful dogs, we just have to learn what makes them tick. Hope this is helpful! I have fully agree with the person about knowing what you are geting into. Don't get me wrong, I love my baby with all my heart. She just turned 5 and I call her my $10,000 puppy - and that's no joke. Definitely get pet insurance and it is best to buy the premium food because if not, they'll just eat more because they're not getting full. My breeder had her on Bil-Jac and I've kept her on that. Of the $10,000 - $4,000 of it was the fence but the rest is all medical bills. Please be very aware of bloat and get educated about it. I would just stress that having a Great Dane is more than just being able to afford to feed them. Too many end up in rescue because people are unaware of the costs or they just give up. Please choose wisely, you will be rewarded they are a beautiful breed inside and out but if you're not ready, wait until you are. Good Luck. A Great Dane will be fantastic! All that room to run and play! And he/she will learn to "herd" the children and will always be very very protective. Mine is fabulous guard too. Good Luck! Patience - your pup still has about another 1-1 1/2 years of growing. Mine went through several different spurts. She was 75lbs at 6 months, then went to 175 by 1 yr and back down to 120 at 2yrs because she got heigth. She's now 5 and a very large 192! Don't worry he'll get there. Mine also went through skin issues. She would get the boils on her back mostly and they would eventually "burst" with a lot of puss and blood. Vet did biopsy but we couldn't really figure out what it was. When the boils were gone that part of her the hair had all fallen out so she looked almost spotted for a while. We decided to treat it like allergies and she had to take 2 benedryls a day for about 3 years but seems to have grown out of it and her hair has even grown back in most of those spots. I have a small house and mine is fine. However I do have a large yard. I think as long as you're diligent on getting the dog outside and exercised, they're pretty well behaved indoors. What are you feeding him? It's not so much slobber as it is the running of the water out of their mouths after drinking. Of course there is also the lovely frothing when they're outside playing and get hot. My daycare person used to tuck a kitchen towel in her collar so that it was there when she got close and she could just wipe her face. You get used to it just like a kid. No, I don't think so as we had a mother and daughter akita even and had to keep them separated. we got our Dixie Dingo in Sanford, FL at the shelter. he and his siblings were brought down from a GA shelter. Go to petfinder.com and you'll be able to find one who needs a good home. Do not Change the food.. EVO is one of the best foods you can feed your Newfie.. If it is a dog over a year there is not much hope . Sorry Hope you have good luck ... My wife and i have had three pyrs over the years. We had the two inside dogs clipped, and had no problems whatsoever. The dogs stayed cooler, and snowdrifts of hair became a thing of the past. A good groomer knows how much to cut off. I would most definitely take him to the Vet for a good look over. They will strive to be the dominant dog in the presence of larger breeds. You need to show strong leadership and obedience training. Once you establish yourself as the pack leader and the dog understands your expectations you can prevent these attacks. Lots of exercise, and only treat or give affection when you are in control! this will help a lot. apparently she's already choice you as her caregiver.I don't know why the other home didn't keep her but it may have to do with she wants you..My thought is she needs to be with you.. I'm not a dog doctor or anything just a person who loves animals and i feel as if I understand them so because raised my whole live with all kinds of animals pets and wild and they where always my best friends the most loyal friends you good ever have. Good luck and GOD bless you for loving all of Gods creatures. This is normal its ears may or may not straighten out. Yes the pugs will be safe I have a German Shepherd and a Yorkshire Terrier I have never had a problem with the German Shepherd trying to sit on my Yorke or anything like that. German Shepherds are natural caring dogs. Well my foxy kinda likes swimming but it kinda depends on how your foxy feels like i know someone who has a foxy and it loves swimming but other foxys don't. No, we have a cocker who is mixed with a non-shedding breed, and still he sets off my allergies. They can be cut Have his ears checked! Bacteria can build up She's letting other dogs in the neighborhood know she's the boss, her territory. My dog does the same thing. The simple answer is DON'T .  Ladies first lol starting with the bitch (spaying) It  is only beneficial for the bitch done before her  first cycle (before 6 months) before they come in heat for the first time, to help prevent the possibility of developing mammary cancer later in life. mammary cancer is not often seen in older bitches  which were on a  breeding programme from an early age, which remain un-spayed, this may be a reflection of a protective effect from nursing puppies. However not all intact bitches develop mammary cancer, on the flip of the coin there is no guarantee that all bitches spayed before 6 months of will be protected from getting mammary cancer, statistically however it found that there is a significant advantage to spaying bitches which are not part of a breeding program.  THIS IS THE ONLY ADVANTAGE BUT IN THE CASE OF A BITCH IS AN OVERWHELMING FACTOR TO GO AHEAD WITH HAVING HER SPAYED IF SHE IS NOT TO BE BRED WITH FROM THE AGE OF 2YEARS OLD......... *********HOWEVER THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE APPLIES TO THE DOG CASTERATION THE DOG (castration) DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN CASTRATED ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE ON THE RECEIVING  END OF THE HIGHLY MALIGNANT PROSTATE CANCER...NEARLY ALL DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN AFFLICTED BY THIS TERRIBLE CANCER HAVE BEEN CASTRATED  So for a dog it is most unwise to have him castrated as the cons overwhelming outweigh any pro's which quite frankly are just the one and that is dog to dog aggression. This can be controlled by you through your effort, hard work, determination and dedication to you dog, which is your responsibility and duty as a good dog/pet owner. It is down to you to deal with your dogs behavioural issues if he/she has any by means of training and the general way you bring up your as castration will most certainly not have any such effect on them If your dog is well behaved as in this case then give yourselves a big pat on the back as you are obviously doing a great job well done to both of you. I myself have brought up 5 very well mannered and behaved bitches and dog all entire (have all their bits lol) co-habitating peacefully. 4 Siberian Huskys 3 bitches 1 dog and a Border collie Bitch. The reason people notice a change in their dog/bitch' behaviour after castration/spaying is that these procedures give rise to weight gain and possible obesity and if anyone has found their own bodies gain weight/become obese will recall that they themselves slowed down and became slower less active just like your dog. The castration/spaying itself does not cause it. Another rather awful consequence of castration is mainly with large breed young male dogs ( med/small dogs can also be effected) is where by the results of early castration on these young males can form terrible orthopaedic deformities in the chest cavity leaving the young male with an insufficient breadth of chest for his orthopaedic limbs. The narrow chests, result in inadequate  support due to the weight that so many neutered animals, male or female, put on. To try to counter act this, these dogs then have to develop a 'toe-out' stance, with valgus deformity of the carpus, in an attempt to broaden their base for weight bearing.  If you still are prepared to castrate your young male dog after having all the facts then the least you could do for your family member (ie mans best friend) is to wait until he is at least 2 years old if you have a large breeds or 1year old if he is a small to medium size. I hope this is helpful. I would be very interested to your vets reasons to why he considers it beneficial. There most certainly from reading your question is no justifiable medical reason especially as he is male to carry out a castration You sound like a good responsible dog owner and I am sure you will weigh up all the facts and come to the right decision Gloshuskys The simple answer is DON'T . I do hope this has helped and now that you have all the bare facts I am sure that you will be in a better position to make a more informed decision for the benefit of your dog, which I am sure you will. Gloshuskys you can try giving him 2 kalms tablets 30 Min's before you are due to go out with him, this worked for my dog and it is a natural remedy Bulldog puppies can be "swimmer" puppies. If they lie on flat surfaces the front legs often have stretched ligaments. I had a puppy in one litter that this happened to before I knew it. It took two weeks of binding his front legs with tape so the ligaments would shrink. This is very common in bulldog puppies. He could just be a swimmer especially if he was a single puppy born. Two males or two females is often a problem. I kept a male from the first litter I bred. All my friends told me it doesn't work. I thought I could handle it. When the puppy turned 18 months (full grown) almost to the day, he and his sire began fighting. I lived with it for about six month and after multiple injuries and stitches to both dogs I had to make the heart-breaking decision to get rid of one of my sweeties. I was able to find a great home for the younger dog, and received pics and updates about him from the new owners for years, but I never quit missing Beau. If you purchase another bully get opposite sex. They will still have spats but not "fights to the death". My rat terrior does the same thing, we found that giving her kibbles and bits a cup and half 3X's a day she doesn't get sick nearly as much. All she does is puke up a bit of water or flem. Licking is a sure sign of stress or nervousness.Sometimes licking may be sign of allergies. If you don't address this problem soon your dog may develop "hot spots" which are formed when your dog irritates his skin from licking.Consult with your veterinarian if the licking persists. No, Cocker spaniels shed averagely and are a poor choice for anyone with allergies. Among some of the dog breeds that are hypoallergenic is:Schnauzers, Poodles,Wheaten terriers,Cairn terriers, Portuguese water dogs,Silky terriers. If you like Spaniels the Irish water spaniel is a good choice for allergies since they do not shed. Most likely a dry skin problem.Consult with a veterinarian he may give you a special cream to put on your dog's face. I got mine neutered at just over 6 months, and he has LONG legs. I'm not sure if the neutering did it or if that's just his shape since he did have longer legs as a puppy too. He grew to be 22 lbs so he is large to begin with. My advice would be that if he doesn't have long legs now, neutering him at 6 months won't change his proportions that much. nine Yes, they do have a short coat but they do shed alot all year long. Weak cartilage. On my Shepherd/Rottweiler mix I taped the weak ear to the upright ear with gentle tape (tape them together so the weak one will have to stand up) and checked after 30 hours or so. It was just enough time to help the weak cartilage and both his ears are standing up. He is nine years now. I have no idea whether 16 weeks is too late, I think I did it as soon as one ear was up and the other did flop. Hope that helps! I know that can be frustrating, but please don't put the pup down...If anything, send her to an animal rescue, I am sure they can find a good home for her. When bathing him, try using a puppy shampoo or a shampoo labeled gentle. It doesn't dry the skin as much and isn't harsh. I like the oatmeal shampoos best. When looking into into getting a puppy to live with another dog, watch how it plays with its litter mates, you may want to get a dog that is submissive so that it will submit to your little dog and play as rough with it or try and dominate it and accidentally hurt it. Also, Aussies are a smart breed and will be easier with small dogs because they realize they are small. I have a Dane that I got from my mom, She has the mother. The mother is also very people aggressive and dog aggressive. We lived in the country on 3 acres. We never really took her anywhere because she had lots of room to run. We also had 3 Jack Russells when we got her. In the midst of what seemed like no where she started barking and charging people walking by the house, and barking aggressively at new people coming in the house. I believe that the lack of socialization had a role in that. My dane Hugo that came from her is the best Dane anyone can ask for. We since the day we got him took him to different pet stores, different dog parks, 3 walks a day no matter what, I did not want my Dane turning out like his Mother. And now everyone He meets falls in love with him. No one can believe how out going He is. My suggestion is to work on "stay" training, and when you go for your walks have him sit and stay off to the side as someone walks by and have him "stay" so that the people can walk by and he can see that nothing bad happens. If he doesnt want to walk towards people walking towards him, let them come to him. I suggest also using a "Haltie" it is a great way to keep control over your Dane. If he gets distracted, you have complete control over where he is able to focus on. And if you force him to focus forward and keep calm and assertive I think you will have some luck with that. I have had dogs my whole life, and have never personally had a bad dog (I had no say in how my Mom raised her Dane.) I also have 2 little Jugs (Jack Russell Pugs) and they are all angel dogs, due to training. Good Luck I have a Dane that I got from my mom, She has the mother. Her Dane is allowed on the couch and my Dane Hugo was allowed on the couch while he was there. He still is allowed on the couched there when we go over to visit. How ever, I have leather couches and do not want him up on them. Your guy is still very young and at a great age to learn. When Hugo was learning about the couches, if he went up on them he went for a time out. You can not physically discipline this breed. They take it too hard. So making him feel emotionally disciplined will work just as good as physically disciplining him. He only took 3 times on the couch before he never went up again. Mind you he is a very soft dog. If you are calm and assertive then he will listen. I crate trained him (his room.) I have the biggest inside crate available, the colossal crate they call it. He is now trained when he does something wrong if he is told to go to his room he will go to his crate, lay down with the door open until he is told to come out, whether it be 15 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes. He knows its not only for being bad, if my 2 other dogs (2 jugs, jack russell pugs) have all the beds he will go in and sleep in his crate on his own, he loves his room and feels safe there. Being the leader in a calm and assertive way is imperative to having a Great Dane Good Luck he may just be over weight or maybe it is just old age. they have fur and shed I Have Weenie dogs my entire life and I have also had cats as well. I have never had a problem with them. They have actually all played together. The only problems that I have had with other animals with my Dachshunds is that one time I tried to bring a bigger dog home. My Female didn't like that at all. Which made me really nervous to leave them all alone together. But as Far as cats or other dogs I have never had a problem. they have tiny legs i thinks if hes happy hes find if he got tired he would walk or lay down in the grass y'know i think its ok maybe it is a pap thing our darling Milly has her tongue out often, even whilst sleeping. She also regularly has a toy in one side of her mouth and her tongue hanging out the other....Very cute im not sure i have a hamster that had babys and her baby had babys and if u touch them when there first born she will eat it because it dosent like when other people smell is on it so it could be the same for a pug ...i have a pug but she never had baby's Addison's disease? Google elevated bun an shiba inu and you will get a description. Addison's disease? Google elevated bun an shiba inu and you will get a description. Try a bottle of DVM Pharmaceuticals HyLyt (efa) Hypoallergenic Shampoo for Dogs. My dachshund had bad dandruff and hair loss on her underside. They also make a spray for in between baths. Other than that a good quality food like Wellness can't hurt either and your little one will love cooked chicken breast with a little olive oil. Whoever washed a dog with tide should be tossed in prison. My 4 months English bulldog weighs 34 pounds...he doesn't look fat and he is very active. I am feeding him Prairie food, 2 and a half cups a day. How much does a 4 months bully must weigh? That sounds a little like are yr old dob she is very nice and it does take a little time for them to get that sense of protection around there yard or so. They take time to grow and mature right now she still doesn't think she can defend anyone or she might have low self confidence try an agility course it worked for are dogs Try building her self confidence with agility when they aren't bleeding anymore its called "waxing over" and it smells horrid They do shed, but not as much as a lab. With my boykin, I have found that her hair tends to clump when she sheds which makes it easier to pick up. I grew up in a house with a lab and do not think Boykins shed as much. Also, they are good bit smaller so that is naturally going to be less hair to deal with. Even the bit they do shed is totally worth because they are smart, loving, and loyal dogs! My female chi was doing this also. Walking with her back hunched up and shaking. She would yelp if I tried to pick her up. The vet said she had a disk problem and was in severe pain. She was given steroid medication for pain and inflamation, along with benadryl just to keep her relaxed while she healed. He said if the disk herniated she would be crippled. She was on the medication for 3 weeks. She will always have to be careful now. But she is back to her old self. My Maltipoo was the same when we brought him home at 10 weeks. The vet suggested Science Diet for puppies, and he LOVES it!!.. They must eat if not their sugar level goes down and they get weak. Yes they do shed a lot, even when they're bathed and brushed regularly. But it is so worth the trouble of having to vacuum every day! My Boykin is the most loving, devoted dog I have ever owned. She has never hunted for anything except a lap to lay in and I wouldn't have it any other way! my mastiff is the same age and we give her 2.5-3 cups of dry dog food 2-3 times a day. hope that helps and god bless My Treeing Walker Coon hound is actually best buds with my cats. I will on occasion find them sunbathing and snuggling for a nap. They play together very well. Mine did the exact same thing. What we had to do was have him in the same room with each different person for about two hours a day, playing with his favorite toys and giving him treats when he came and sat down on their lap and wasn't being aggressive at all. Also, I would go out with them on the walks, walking next to him, but making it clear that I wasn't the one holding his leash. It took about a month, but he finally decided that he didn't mind going on walks or relaxing with the rest of my family. Not only that, but the bond my Xolo had with me had actually seemed to strengthen. I hope that helps you out! -Raven Try mixing a tablespoon of black strap molasses in your Vizslas food. Your Vizsla more than likely has some arthritis. Black strap molasses has been known to do wonders for dogs with arthritis. I think it is yeast infection. My 6 month old bulldog did the same thing. I took her to the vet and it turned out to be yeast infection. You need the specific cream from vet to cure this. My pup healed within a week. Good luck my cavachon pup sheds, a little but is not non shed mom's a bichon- dad's a cav my 4 month old male cavachon is 10lbs I have a Bernese mountain dog and two cocker spaniels and they love each other.... but what you should look for is if u have any male dogs to get a female because males will just battle with dominance all the time.....and its harder for a puppy to defend itself....though this is not a reason to be not in control....the puppy may still want dominance and you have to watch for that.....hope that helps!!! If you do decide to get a golden...it is a wonderful choice....they are very smart and obedient...but start training early because they can be stubborn.....i am very sure that your son will fall in love with this dog very soon....hope it helps!!!! I would not recommend keeping a dash with cats as they are very good a chasing cats and small animals...if you really want one though i would train the dog very well to get along with all animals....hope this helps!!! I'm sorry i cannot help with the breeder info...but the bichpoo have hair and i know many people who are highly allergic to dogs that have not reacted to this breed at all.....and they have also been fine with other dogs with hair....i hope this helps!!!!! We purchased an AKC english bulldog and it grew into what looked like a boxer, I am finding out they are all different and sometimes grow long and lean vs short and stocky, that build is hard to find and if you do it is 2500 a puppy. Get a female but fix her if you don't want puppies. Two males usually will have dominance issues. Give him a girlfriend :) My friend's shorkie got her period at 1 year, and my 8 mo. old has not started yet, I have a 1 year old female Morkies with a wavy Apricot coat. hi I also have a tri boy cav he is two in may and weighs 12.25 but has long legs he is just a lovable big boy, my other boy cav weighs 10.25. The saying bull in a china shop applies to him. I have a 7 month old Blue Dane and I am having the same problem. I was concerned he was being aggressive, so I took him to several dog training professionals. All of them have told me the same thing, he is going through "teenage stage" and is scared and is not being aggressive and that this phase will pass. I have been taking him to training classes since he was 7 weeks old and to Pet-Smart every week, but he still went through this phase. He is getting better now and I think the training has helped. They are teaching me to be the "leader of the pack" and making sure my dog understands who is in control and that if I'm okay with something, then he needs to be okay with it too. Hope this helps. It was very frustrating to me also. I have a 14 month old baby in my home and I couldn't keep him if he was being aggressive. He is my first Dane and he has been a hand ful and I have spent a lot of money on him, but he is a beautiful dog and very smart. I can't stress enough to make sure and start training early with a Dane or you will lose control very quickly and that isn't good considering how fast this breed grows. Does anyone have any advice on good toys & chews for Danes? Beagles are normally very sweet. They were even used when animal testing was allowed because of their sweet forgiving nature. I know. Sad right? The testers could hurt them and the beagles would still trust them. I'm not sure what parvo is, but I would not let this one beagle ruin your opinion of the breed. Have you ever thought of getting a professional trainer? It seems a shame to have to put her down, but I understand your concern. Good luck. I had a longhair dachsie who had a similar problem, both sides of his back. I read online and was scared by many of the genetic problems I saw. I also found that poison ivy had grown onto our road and looked into that. I took him to the vet, and had the minimum number of tests done (all I could afford) and the vet put him on a prescription of doxycycline, I believe. I know I smiled because it started with dachsie. New hair seemed to be growing back in after a couple weeks. People I spoke to later also said the loss of hair could be due to the heat. We have the same problem with our male wire hair fox terrier. Vet bills were a major concern for us too. We found that giving him Benadryl (vet suggested 1 mg per pound, so we give him one since he is just over 20 pounds) when the signs of allergies begin. This keeps him from licking and scratching which almost always resulted in some type of infection of the areas. Since we started doing this, he has very rarely had to go to the vet. Each Akita is different. An American Akita tends to weight more than a Japanese Akita. Our male at 4 is 115 pounds and is ran every other day for 2 miles. Ask your vet. Is he getting enough protein in his diet? How much are you feeding him? Twice a day? He is still a puppy and should be getting his food in two feedings. Morning and Evening. As he ages, dinner time is enough. Do you run/walk him every day? All these add up to is his healthy weight along with what his bone structure is. Again, ask your vet. He/She can tell you if he is under weight for his bone structure and activity level. We too noticed the same at 12 years old, (Akita). Please, take her to the vet. Ours did the same and it was an indication of pain from her hips. Maybe its an aging thing, Does he or she grunt when getting up or down? Takes longer than normal to stand up? Better to be safe than sorry. Talk to your vet. It is a small price to pay to keep our four legged companions healthy, happy and comfortable for as long as we are able to have them in our lives! After having many Akitas (american) in our home, really the answer is about the personality of your Akita's. I have gotten Akitas as adults, and Akitas as puppies. I do have 2 cats. My male is best buddies with them. My female couldnt care less if they were here or not. and If they got to close she would fire off a warning shot and they would run. Akitas by nature do hunt. So are your cats de-clawed? Mine are not. It is their only way of defense. We just brought home a new addition (female american) and the cats hiss and growl. She could care less. One of the cats were a kitten when we brought her home...and she learned real quick. We did not drop her in the house for the dogs to chase. We have a wonderful screen patio and she hung out there for the first week. The dogs would go to the glass ...stare at her...and walk away. But truely, no one can tell you how YOUR akita will respond. You are his/her master. You know their personality. You know if this will work or not. And you must be committed to the process, as it is not just drop and go with an Akita. best of luck, and no matter what "everyone" (books etc) say, if done correctly, if done with love and respect, an Akita can get along with a cat..or atleast tolerate one. I don't have a malti-poo, but I have a maltese, Sugar, and she's the sweetest little dog in the whole world (her name suits her perfectly) every one loves and wants her - which is kind of funny because she was born 6-6-06 (I call her devil dog when she's bad - which is very rare). When I first brought her home she ate food the breeder gave me when he weened the puppies onto dry food, but when I ran out I couldn't find a brand she would eat. Maltese's are very picky eaters and I basically went through every brand recommended - purina, science diet, kibbles n bits, etc. Ultimately she ended up choosing Iams Playful Puppy and as she's grown I've kept her on Iams, so now she eats the Iams Proactive Health Mini-Chunks formula for toy dogs 1+ years of age. She loves it! So everyone out there with a picky maltese or maltese mix, I hope you read this and save your time & money - I spent more than I want to admit but my little baby's well worth it. Have you had ur dog tested for heart worms? I know this can cause difficulty with breathing. i have a 4 and a half month old GSD and two 9 pound dachshunds, so far so good. he is a little rough, but playful, and no aggression issues. he even loves the old cat. i don't foresee a problem, we let the male dachshund set the pecking order so to speak. Zeus is 45 pounds, copper (the male dachshund) is 9 pounds. copper is the boss. Depends entirely on the sire and dam. Working dogs tend to be smaller than their show cousins and usually labradingers (or springadors in the UK) are bred for gun work from hunting lines therefore they arent as big as labradors in height but can be very stocky. I have two unrelated springadors from working stock and they are about 20". I have Tornjak near Calgary, Alberta. Breeding pair was imported from Croatia a few years ago. If interested in more information, please contact me at: xctornjak@gmail.com hey it's alright your JRT is like this... mine is too... it'll grow out of it or maybe it's just afraid that it'll get abandoned again... We have just welcomed our new chodsky to the family...most excellent of dogs We had the help of a very good transport company and the breeder in the Czech Republic was also quite good. (Thank god for google translator!) 10 to 12 years I had a lab/husky and she froze to death and I live in Kentucky-so I would say no. Havanese aren't known for barking or being noisy, except to alert you when someone's at the door. They are very social, loving and relational beings and don't like being alone for long periods of time. They are generally healthy, sturdy little dogs who love to play, fetch, cuddle, walk, snuggle and be by your side. Socialization and consistency with house-training will reap huge rewards. Havs can also be trained to use doggie litter or a pad if needed. They are the most hypo-allergenic dog we've found--our dog allergic humans sleep with our Havs every night! They are sensitive and smart and make great agility and therapy dogs as well. they here things that we cant because dogs have different hearing than humans My chiweenie, Aubrey, is now 10 months old. I remember when we first brought her home when she was about 6 weeks old. As long as she is eating frequently through the day she should be fine at night. As she grows older she will need less frequent feedings. Also, my chiweenie sleeps in the bed with me but I first taught her to sleep in her crate so she wouldn't have problems with it later in life. Along with the frequent will come frequent needs to use the bathroom, which will also go away slightly as she grows. If you are worried about her using the restroom in her crate, what I did for the first 2 months or so was put old newspaper on the bottom of her crate so if she uses the restroom in there, it is pretty easy cleanup. But with my chiweenie, after the very first night she used the restroom in her crate, she realized she didn't like the smell and has never ever used the restroom in her crate again! Lol! I hope this helps! Congratulations on your new baby! :) My little sweetheart only sheds once a year, from Jan. 1 until Dec. 31. I have an 8 month old malitpoo and a 6 year old golden retriever. They get along perfectly. My golden is so gentle with my maltipoo. She almost mothers her. I can't feed them together though. My golden did attack her when they both found food on the ground. She did not want to share her food. Not all dogs are like that though. Otherwise, things are great between them. I take mine outside and brush him out with a regular wire brush after his weekly bath. It works well I don't have very much hair inside but he does need a good brushing. hope this helps Dont worry it'll grow back soon.. Next time tell them no buzzcut!! :) The breeder we got ours from suggests baby jar food---chicken flavor...and Cesar puppy food! The Giant Maso is sold through the originating breeder's website at www dot massivedogz dot com. The breeder is in WV but WILL SHIP. The Giant Maso is WONDERFUL with children. We have a (currently) 5 1/2 month old female puppy and a 4 year old son. She doesn't stray too far from his side and is constantly looking to make sure he's in her line of sight when outside. She is his CONSTANT companion. Most Giant Masos don't slobber much during normal activity. The originator of the breed has tried to make sure the "parent dogs" from the English Mastiff side (which comprises 85% of the gene mix in current Giant Masos) are "tight lipped". Our puppy only slobbers after drinking or (sometimes) eating. Other than that she is "dry". I grew up with German Shepherds and my husband grew up with Saint Bernards. Take it from two people who grew up with big dogs ... The Maso is a GREAT breed! She is already watchful and very protective of her "pack" (which includes 2 cats). The females are generally protective earlier than the males (and in less demand for some reason) but the males do develop a protectiveness at about the age of 2 according to the breeder. According to the breed originator, most Masos are about the same size as an English Mastiff. Some are smaller and some are MUCH larger. In terms of a giant dog who is excellent with children, the Giant Maso appears to be the answer to what you are looking for. We have a puppy who is already very good with our 4 yo son, and very protective of her entire "pack" which includes 2 cats. She IS still a puppy and will remain so until she is past the 2 year mark so she IS still very exuberant and playful. We are extremely happy with our "little girl". I feel bad for both your blue tick and your new puppy, clearly you are doing something wrong in raising your dogs. Maybe a few episodes of dog whisperer can help you understand that it is ALWAYS the owners fault, never the dogs. I highly recommend you enroll in dog classes and actually spend the time training your dog, clearly you are either pushovers or lazy dog owners. Sick that you would consider killing your own dog due to your lack of ownership. My elkhound grew up around other animals,5 cats and 2 dogs. She is a princess and needs her share of attention. other than that , she is great and gets along quite well. Hi, I fully understand your concern. When I got my one and only Lhasa Apso - Tara, (she's 5 months old now), my concern was the same. When I checked with various trainers and vets, I was told that I am the reason for her being fussy about her food. I should stop fretting and not allow her the bowl after 5 minutes. She comes and goes, as if twitching her nose and finding the food deplorable at times. I was also told not to offer variety. Also not to allow her to beg from us while we are eating ours. There's one more thing, apparently these little ones have a very long memory and will hunger for the food which you used to serve them sometime. This craving is bad for us humans, since it will be like now we have to find outr what she's craving for. So, I have been told to keep it simple. But she hates repetitions, even if its her favourite! So, I sort of rotate the menu once every fortnight and also, ensure she eats her formulated food, since our food lacks in the nutrition part. Best Wishes W Puppies are usually able to leave their mums between 6-8wks old. The deciding factor has to be whether they are fully weaned from mum, and able to eat solids , if not then they're not ready, but most should be weaned by 7wks. You should get the dog vet checked, but its highly likely theres nothing amiss. We adopted a two year old Boxer a year ago, our third, and you could have been describing her. We feed her good quality food, she 'self limits', and doesn't put weight on but is super healthy. Vet did say we could add a bit of fat or oil to her food, ie additional calories.... dogs don't get heart disease! Go for it!! you really don't need a dog if you don't plan on letting them inside . And a rottweiler is a family dog they love to be part of the family. They need one on one time with you if you want to get one and leave it outside you will have holes in the yard from them digging, they love to dig. Mine is only outside for potty breaks and she will try to dig if she finds a mole holes Also if you want a nice dog you need to work with them and train them or you could have a rottweiler with some aggression issues. And as for the weather rottweilers have short hair not for living outside in cold weather and they are black and on hot days there black coats heat up fast. I love this breed of dog so please don't get one just to keep in your back yard. The only difference is size.. genetically, they are the same dog. The shed about as much as people do. They have hair, not fur so they are considered to be a "shed free" dog. Chinese Imperial genetically is the same dog. The only difference is size. We have a wonderful Biewer boy who already weighs 9lbs and should be about 12lbs when full grown. He is a wonderful sturdy bo and we couldn't be happier with his size. He makes our 4lb Yorkie look even tinier. They do seem to have different temperments, with our Yorkie being a little more high strung and our Biewer being so laid back. four paws also sells a liquid to remove stains around the eyesand face. it is called Crystal Eye available at petsmart i tried it and works very well. My cavachon will not go near anything with Angel Eyes in it. it also smells to foul for me let alone her. i assume so....my bull boxer snores ALOT! They get it from the boxer part i think frae She is probably bored. Hi...we have a 7 month old...that also did alot of bitting....try this...a little butter rub on the top of your hand...every time...she goes for a bit...it will turn into a lick...it does stop the biting...remember to praise alot when she is doesnt bite the hand but licks it.... You should NEVER shave a keeshond as their coat protects them from the heat as well as the cold. Shaving them ultimately destroys their coat and you will find that it grows back sparsely. Clipping some of the hair off does no real damage and it will grow back. The only time I do this is with an older Keez that tends to mat easily and is not good about being groomed. The number of puppies a bitch produces has many factors; age, family genetics, whether progestrone tests were done to determine the right time to breed, if it is a natural tie (or several), and AI, health, age and experience of the male. With that a litter can be from 7 to 12 puppies. My bitch for example comes for a line known for large litters as was the sire I bred her to; we did a natural breeding as well as an AI and she had 10 healthy pups. YES. No puppy of any breed should be separated from it's dam or litter mates until at least 8 weeks of age and most reputable breeders don't let English Springers go until 9 to 10 weeks of age. A puppy is not fully self aware until 6 weeks old and they need that time to learn about lifes rules from their mother and litter amtes. This helps assure that a puppy will be well adjusted and healthy. Taking them too early is illegal in many states as the proff is presented that shows that puppies going to homes too young tend to have more behavior problems as well as aggression problems then those that stay until at least 8 weeks old. Huskies are beautiful dogs with thick coats. This doesn't mean that they cannot live in warm climates. I have seen huskies in Florida! The dogs usually adjust to their surroundings and they have ways of keeping themselves cool. Rescues are listed at www.trdusa.org puppy 3 times, adult 2 times I own a female Swissie who is naturally sweet and good natured. However, someone entered my yard unannounced while she was outside and she did her job. She didn't attack but she held him in the corner, barking until someone came out. She is also wary of strangers who come to the door. Again, she does not attack but she waits for a signal that whomever is there is acceptable. She does love other dogs and she does love children and is very gentle with them. I have the same problem with my DDB. I am going to try raw diet for now. Even after I bath him he smells. If you found a solution please let me know. I think you should give her different food and give her a half cup every morning and thats it my 5 month female would be approx 33kg... she is quite tall and reasonably light too... Check with the Vet first about loss of appetite. If it seems only because a certain fancy has caught him/her, then you may have to pretend to indulge. First try to hand feed. Mine sometimes behaves like there's nothing better for us to do than that! If that does not work, then try alternate food. I am not so much in favour of meat products, es ply since they do not provide all the nutrition required. try Pro biotic foods too! Mine loves it. I agree with the first answer but the best way to do it would be when she bites you let out a yelp, or when she bites you grab her by the srcuff and give her a shake like a mother dog would do to her young. She will protect if needed but it's better to have a friendly dog rather than one that attacks every moving thing in it's territory. I don't think an 8 week old boxer puppy can hold it's bladder or it's bowels for 4 hours consistently without major discomfort. I think you shoudl compromise your potty training by paper training in a play pen until his bladder/ bowel control is a little more developed unless someone can let him outside every two hours or so. Of course they don;t like to mess in their bed, but if yo give them no choice... Paper train for a month or so then go back to the crate if you must. I have a 10 week old male boxer and he can sometimes manage a few hours, but even sometimes at night I have to get up or if I don't hear him I have a mess to deal with in the morning. We're crate and paper training because my wife is at home and hates to see him confined all day, but because we have three kids too it's hard for her to spot everytime he needs to go outside, so rather than set him up to fail we use paper too... Hope this helps. I had a male great dane that used to slobber a fair amount. We resorted to putting a bandanna around his neck to wipe his chops when they got messy. Did the job! There are different ways to build bonds with dogs.one to exercise with them that builds a bond to feed it Yourself is also a great way and Just spending quality time with the dog Please try a drug free way first: My Rottweiler did that, I cured it by carrying a spray bottle of plain water, when he started I sprayed him and loudly said 1 word (your choice) I used "bup". After a while I didn't need to spray just the "bup" when he started to move around back there. He would immediately try to control himself and I would give him a treat. Worked great but takes time/patience. Disclosure: Do not do this if you are driving. ours didn't both stand correctly until he was a little over 6 months, we had 1 down 1 half up for the longest time, be patient and reevaluate in a few months My bullie went through a period where people thought she was a boxer. Now that she's older, she's grown into her beautiful bullie looks. Expect a lot of work for the first year. Boys have better temperaments, but are difficult to house break. They need A LOT of exercise, and exposure to other dogs at a young age, continuously, otherwise you will have a very antisocial boy (particularly with this breed). This is NOT the breed for an apartment at all. They need a backyard. Very smart dogs. But high maintenance, yes. You need to walk them for AT LEAST an hour everyday, otherwise they will let you know...you don't get away with any laziness with THIS breed. It's not only exercise, but they also crave intellectual problem solving type tasks. Hiding their toys under a rug or some treats inside of a bottle....you have to be creative. I have a 1 1/2 year old welsh terrier male. To be honest, their are 3 of us in this house sharing and taking turns walking him/playing with him and the first year WAS A LOT of work. We were expecting this. We had a Schnauzer before and in comparison the Welshies are much less laid back. However he has started to calm down with age a bit. We love and enjoy him, nonetheless. I don't recommend a Welsh Terrier for first time ownership. They're too smart, and will take advantage of any of your shortcomings! Not a breed for first time dog owners! If you grew up with dogs, then I would say it was okay. It sounds like she ate something or something is blocking her stomach. You should see a vet immediately. Any decrease in appetite in dogs is a bad sign. I've heard Blue Buffalo can cause kidney damage...I won't be feeding Blue Buffalo. Boxers are the best, and no dog should be left more than four hours a day. Is there a neighborhood kid who could come in and take it for a short walk? I pay a kid $5.00 a day to come to my house for 15 minutes and let my two boxers out. He's happy for the gas money, and I'm not that worried that they have to go too long without a break. Call the vet, sometimes they have leads on dog walkers etc. If you want a dog, you have to be willing to spend some money to be sure it's taken care of. Get a boxer, they're great! I have a nearly 7 y/o Boxer that I've had since he was 3 weeks old. He drinks a normal amount of water, and does not need to be let out, under normal circumstances, an excessive amount. However, occasionally he does need to go out after bedtime or in the middle of the night, when this occurs it is often more than once. I've gone out with him to monitor his behavior and know that he often goes out to graze on grass and then get sick once or twice before needing to come in. He eats holistic dog food and is only given natural treats, nevertheless, Boxers have overly sensitive digestive systems, and each of them tolerate different foods in their own way. I would recommend going out and monitoring his/her behavior when he/she needs to go out at odd times, and if you find he/she is vomiting on a semi-regular basis, try switching over to a more wholesome, holistic dog food and cut out table scraps as well as unnatural treats. It has greatly reduced my Boxers stomach sensitivity. I am a breeder that has been around a lot of puppies. Most love to bite on anything they can get hold. They are teething so anything rubbing on their gums feels good to them. Think of a baby that is teething. They always want to bite on things or have teether toys that rub their gum. It could become a problem if you let your puppy keep biting. Try to teach them that this is not a behavior that is acceptable. Puppies understand more than we give them credit for. Best wishes with your new baby! I have a two year old also and she drools as she leaves her water bowl. In fact I have put a towel down to help as she walks away. I believe it is normal for the bred. I have a two year that we adopted from the shelter. She loves other dogs. She had been taken to the dog park by a volunteer at the center. So I felt comfortable that she wasn't aggressive towards others. I have two small dogs and she gets along great with them. She is not fond of cats. I think it depends on the temperment of the dog more than the bred. If your dogs are not aggressive towards other dogs..it should be fine. They will recognize her as a puppy and give her some leeway. If your dogs are active, they will enjoy the playing with another dog. Careful supervision is always a good idea for a week or more. He could be jealous of your husband's attention. This is more than a bad habit..this is dangerous behavior. Your dog needs to know who the alpha dog is in the family, and it isn't him! I'm not a trainer so you might want to seek professional advice. But, I would recommend that your husband sternly, very sternly, reprimand him each and every time this happens. If you have a kennel, he could be kenneled for a 5 minutes or placed in another room. Your husband could put a leash on him, and when he displays this behavior, he can pull on the lease, sterning saying no, no! Does he respond like this only when your husband is home? Is he good with you the rest of the time? Hi Tony, I am currently in contact with Patty Hoover, a Xolo breeder in Selah, WA. You can reach her site at http://www.xolo.com/dogblog/?page_id=4 FYI: Having a dog sent via mail from WA would cost about $200 or so via Air Canada. Our four year old Bernese stays very close to us. At the cottage, she will go off for a swim and come back to sit on the property and watch people and cars go by. There was no need to train her for this. She just wants to be close to where we are. Depends on the dog. Some are nice, some are mean. But overall, shorkies are sweeties! But they are small so make sure kids properly handle a shorkies as to not injure them. Maybe the ears will stiffen up over time. Just wait for now. we have owned several minis and we had never had a shdding problem, the greatest little guys you could ever ask for!!! I noticed that my maltipoo was also not eating when we first got her. She was very distracted. What I recommend is putting her bowl in a quiet place and sitting with her and praise her after she eats. This worked perfectly for me! Good luck!!! Might be time to put her down. they smile when getting a tummy rub :] Why would you want to? Their tails are so beautiful. They originated in Tibet, where they were supposedly sentinel dogs or herding dogs. They usually lived in monasteries, and sometimes were given to respected guests as gifts. Selling a Tibetan Terrier was considered bad luck in their country of origin. The first official Tibetan terrier was "Girlie", who was brought to the US in 1956 from Lamleh Kennel in UK by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Murphy of Great Falls, Virginia. If you are looking for a mature Boxer, you're going to have to go with an older dog than ten months. Boxers generally don't mature until at least two years, and some later than that. At tne months, he will still be very mugh a baby, and probably much more than you can handle with a three- month- old Lab! As to getting along with your puppy, a well- socialized Boxer of any age should do very well- they are social, friendly dogs. If you want to play it safe, choose a dog that is the opposite sex of the one you already own; they tend to get along best. Just make sure to have them both neutered. I wouldn't be too worried about an adult bonding with your family. People adopt adult dogs from rescues, shelters and other sources all the time and they bond wonderfully well. Some people even prefer adult dogs to puppies. I have a 4 year old that is fixed and every chance he gets he will run! We've never had a problem with him digging though. for retrieving dead game birds such as ducks and pheasants They may also go into water to fetch dead bird from lakes and rivers. This also explains their love of fetching balls and sticks! If he keeps on getting distracted take the food away after 3 minutes and add what ever is left in the bowl with how ever much you're giving him for the next feeding, that way he will understand that when it's time to eat, it's time to eat. and at the next feeding give him 6 minutes, if he doesn't eat it all take it away then wait till the next feeding time, and give him more food plus what is in the bowl and give him 9 minutes, that way he knows, he needs to eat when you want him to, and not play around I have a 7 mo old pup, his ears are just starting to lay down, he did also have a floppy ear for a while, it will happen with time; mostlikely Start praising her when she goes into her cage willingly. give her treats for sitting in there and being calm, it will make her understand that her being calm in there is a good behavior and she will be rewarded for it He most likely has separation anxiety from being babied and not left alone as a puppy, ignore him, and he will eventually realize it's okay to not be by your side 24/7 when you see him wander off, give him treats, tell him he's being a good boy for not being so nosy Trimming the coat won't hurt it. Never shave the dog it is not comfortable for them. The coat actually protects them from sun burn and the cold. If it is that hot outside the dog should be in doors where it is cool. I would not trim the ruff but the under belly and pants could be trimmed a little. Trimming the coat won't hurt it. Never shave the dog it is not comfortable for them. He is most friendly , loyal dog I have had. He likes sticks , hates things bigger than hil. Garbage cans , mops , anything with a long handle . He loves his chews , and will go after anything that tries to take away . Main problem. If he has just gone to sleep and you wake him he goes crazey , barking , trys to bite yor hand . After a few seconds later he is fine. It's a little scarey , He is serious . Normal after about 30 seconds. What can I do to stop. of course all dogs with straight ears pop up as they get older yes, i have two cats and a staffordshire bull terrier with my dogue. all get on very well. one of the cats came into the house as a kitten since having the dogue and was great. the dogue came into our house as a pup since our staff was 3 and other cat was 4. hope this helps. Hey: Hare shed is not that great, I would say it's average. When my dog sits on my laps I'm not all fluffy and my house is not a dog hare disaster. Even the few drops of hare it sheds are easy to clean up, it's not like (for instance) Boxers hare which sticks to your cloths micro-fibers like nails, it's more like cotton and you can actually pic it up with your hands. I hope this would help. Might be worth getting him checked out at the vets. sounds like he may have kidney problems. a simple blood test will rule this out but if he has it would be better to get it found out. We have a 15 month old boxer who was diagnosed with Kidney Disease just after Christmas. She was born with it and I know it is a problem in the breed line at the moment. get a leonberger! they have a great personality train well are very obedient and are the best dog you could ever have (i love mine to death).the only things bad about them are are pretty big (mine is 165 lbs) another thing is there hair sticks to stuff. but over all best dog i have ever had and best dog ever from leonbergerlover no i have never had this problem with mine but my advise is to get it removed before it gets bigger if it does A diluted solution of boric acid is what we use on our Bedlington Terrier's eyes. If you cannot get a hold of boric acid, my husband and I have used diluted Hydrogen Peroxide. Just be careful when applying. Traditionally used as gun-dogs, at their best at shooting field!! It's possible that your Pom is full blooded, but if he was purchased at a pet store. chances are very good that he came from a puppy mill where the breeders don't care nearly as much who or what the parents are as they are in re-breeding every available female again as quickly as possible with anything that's even similiar in size...thus the 'designer dogs' like Pekeapoos, Puggles, etc. so you can never be sure without a DNA test exactly what you're getting from a pet store. The papers you received may, or may not, be worth what the paper cost. My castrated male is terrible with children and seems to see them as rivals to him I have a 3 year old nephew and it took over a year before my dog would even be nice to him they are better now but i would never leave my dog alone with him i do not recommend this on my experience we lived at the seaside for two years and our boys were ok.one didnt like the sea but the other loved it. only problem was when it was windy and the sand could blow in their eyes. Dependingon the color. A sable dog is a sable merle and a blue dog is a blue merle. Blue eye one are to is a sure sign of a merle. ive grown up with dobermans all my life every doberman ive owned i do the medium crop ive also done the show crop one thing that is very important to know what crop u have there are 3 kinds short or fighting crop 2 medium crop and 3 show crop which normally is for great danes the longer the crop the longer it takes to stand up normally people go with medium crop for dobermans and u should re wrap every 3 days for at least 3 months also 1 main thing that lots of people dont know only top line doberman breeders is u need to feed her/him belive it or not 1 prenatal pill a day for the rest of the dogs life it builds cartlidge in there ears makes them stand up and look perfect now in all honesty i dont give my dog 1 pill a day but i have had some dobermans that there ears dont want to stand up as well as others but the prenatal pill really worked ive owned them all but bottom line is there isnt any difference as far as attitude or personality that all depends on the bloodline buttttt fawn and blue which are beautiful dogs tend to have skin problems because there considered a mutant color there skin can really be dry flakey and itchy 8-10 they will be bald buy the time there 8 years old so they absoultely need to be on a top quaility food something with deboned chicken as 1 ingreideint and u have to be willing to know they could possiably go bald i have a fawn female right now 4 years old and she has the flaky skin she still has her few but i bathe her 2 times a week with johnson and johnson baby shampoo because its so light not harsh at all and shes doing ok but i can see thiner patches on some sides of her body so there very high matinence type dog if u have the time and patience fawn or blue will work if not i would go with a red or black and tan u rarely see white and i dont know enough about them It grows FAST!!!!! We cut my Maltese hair short short for the reason that it grows super fast and when we did I was like WHAT but I got over it and now its super long again. She looked so tiny but now she is very fluffy. Her diet has a lot to do too. We make sure the dog food we give her provides alot of proper nutrition. We noticed when we changed her dog food her hair grew a whole lot quicker. I recently adopted a year old female. She is proving to be an excellent dog. Very good temperament, attentive and gentle with humans and other animals. She interacts well with my other dog and also does well with my two cats. Her former owners didn't take the time to train her in the basic commands but she seems eager to please and is making good progress. Leash training is a bit difficult with such a powerful animal since she wants to pull like a sled dog but she is starting to show some improvement. I bred and trained German Shepherd Dogs for years but this is my first experience with a Rottweiler. I must say it has been a very positive experience. My 3 yr old female boxer has gas but no smell. I feed her a good food and no table scraps. Instead of scraps she gets some good dog treats. She always acts as though she wants to blame someone else when she has gas, though. how is the heat cycle for chizer dogs Our Brittany does in fact shed quite a lot. We have hard wood floors and the fine white hairs clump in the corners quite badly. On the plus side it is not the type of dog hair that sticks to your clothes. Apart from this small issue, we think our Jonty is an absolutely fabulous dog! Yes they have dew claws on all four paws. i have a 3-year-old female akita "Brandy" and she is about 100lbs. so for a male his age he should be on average 110-115lbs. get both! OUR EIGHT YEAR OLD LAB BITCH ELLIE LOVES TO PLAY HIDE AND GO SEEK. I THROW A SMALL SOFT BALL UP STAIRS WHICH SHE CHASES THEN I RUN OFF AND HIDE IN VARIOUS DIFFERENT PLACE EACH TIME, SHE ALWAYS GETS THE BALL FIRST THEN SPENDS SEVERAL MOMENTS TRYING TO FIND ME WHICH SHE LOVES, AND ALWAYS GREETS ME AS THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN APART FOR HOURS, GOOD EXERCISE FOR BOTH OF US!! I got my patterdale terrier from a local humane society. He was 4 yrs old and already neutered. He doesn't seem affected negatively. He has always been loving and very tolerant of our young children if they get to be too much he retreats to our bedroom. Super dog love the breed he is now 8 years old. Again no negative effects. TRAINING.OBEDIENCE SCHOOL. ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. I have an eight week old Shiranian and she has been a dream to potty train. I have been crate training her since she was seven weeks old and she has caught on wonderfully. The main thing is consistency and praise. Never punish the puppy for eliminating in the wrong spot and don't give them run of the house. Instead keep them confined and offer lots of praise when they go potty in the proper spot. Check out crate training. My little Fifi loves being in her crate. Good luck! Chihuahua's have a normal temperature of 102....why yours feels like it is putting off a lot of heat is unknown. Could be his/her color or the thickness of the coat. Yeah my male was kind of the same way but as he aged he became more confident about him self. We still thought that he would be the worst guard dog ever he loved everyone but one night he proved he knew how to protect when he was needed without any training for protection , he kept use safe and the burglar away from use. Our female Bulldog also gets bumps ( hives ) everytime we take her to vacation home.Vet says she is allergic to fleas. She only gets them when we go there. Benedryll usually takes care of it yes unfortunately our bulldog is on the list of potentially dangerous dogs..there are insurance companies that will insure you at a higher rate.your insurance adjuster should be able to advise. sounds like he really needs exercise. A doberman needs to run and play everyday to maintain a healthy head space. They aren't really apartment dogs (unless you can walk him a few times a day). I have a female doberman and she whines alot too, but it's usually for a good reason. Either she needs to go to the bathroom or she's bored, or she wants attention. Dobermans are very owner oriented dogs and if they don't get the attention they need, they will bug you until they do (at least in my experience). the whining when he's in his kennel is probably due to lack of exercise as well. If he can't get his energy out during the day, he's not going to be very happy going into his kennel at night. The black tips on puppies are just puppy hair. They are not intended to stay dark. All Yorkie puppies are black and tan, but as they grow that black hair grows out and the roots are the true color your dog will be, so its the same with morkies. Of course some so stay dark that is their true color but most do not. So don't get attached to the little black fluff ball! It probably won't stay. Our walker hound is a "flight risk" with no car-sense at all. He was smart enough to escape from our fenced backyard. We've sense moved and our fence is now 8 feet high. He likes a challenge and likes to test the backyard fence. He found some loose boards at our parents house and escaped. He likes the adventure because he's a free spirit and likes to hunt. Thank goodness he can be coaxed back into a car with a milk bone (which we always keep in the glovebox). They love to run... can't help it... it's who they are. Embrace that, build a good fence, and be ready to chase 'em down. They're awesome with kids... you won't be disappointed. Go to You Tube and search for German shepherds, you'll be amazed hou well they do with smaller dogs and little kids. i had similar problem make his bed and room where he sleeps comfy make shur he has toys and give him heated pad or heater beside his bed(secure electric wires so he cant chew it) and he should be happy to sleep there waiting for u.but do not let him think that every time he makes sound u r coming over to him he shouldn't be taken away from mother that early but if that's the case leave food always in bowl and make shure he is eating i had to feed mine 8 weeks old from hand for 3 days until he settled well,I walked a friend's Schnauzer and a cat walked by and arched up it's back to make itself bigger ,but the dog just sort of quickly angled itself towards the cat but then ignored it .But i am not sure that it will behave like that inside because it will smell it's territory and get upset ,hope i helped! Depends on the nature of the dog itself but I have an 18 month old GSD who gets along with any and every dog not matter what size they are from yorkies to akitas If you have an aggressive dog then he CAN NOT be around children. You either need to find him a foster home with no children or have him put down. I know that is heart breaking, but safety is more important. If he has already bitten one child he can't live in your home. I do not think this is true for most Beagles but you would need to check with the vet to find out about Parvo. I'm not sure if you've already tried this, but you should try putting treats on the brush. Then very gently stroke, treat, stroke, treat so that brushing and grooming gets associated with good things. None of the initial grooming should hurt at all. This should take days or weeks before you actually get into real grooming. If treats aren't good enough try tiny pieces of hot dog. Right now grooming is only associated with anticipation of pain. You want to try to change the association to wonderful things. Good luck, I hope that helps. I have a Mini American Eskimo, and I think with a proper introduction they are good with cats. Mine loves my aunts two cats. :D i have an 11 month old and he eats 1 cup a day..I would feed a bit less..and alow for treats..any good dog food should have a feed guide on the bag They are hard to train, my boys are 16 months old and still have accidents. But they are the most loveable pet ever. I was never a pet person, always like other people's pets and never thought I would be a pet owner and I have to say they two have me wrapped around their little paws! A litter usually has 2-8 pups but on the rare occasion, 16. But if there is 16 then most would die of that size. I have a wonderful WHFT mix. He had a seizure in March of 2010. This happened in the middle of the night. I rushed him to an emergency vet. (This seizure lasted for 2 hours.) It was frightening. It also cost a lot of money. ($850.00) He had another one in the middle of the night two months later. This seizure lasted over 2 hours. Again, we went to the emergency vet. (Again, another $850.00 plus another $300 to my regular vet the following day for a multitude of tests.) He was placed on phenobarbital. NO seizures since. Thank goodness. His seizures were terribly difficult on him much less me. My vet compared it to us running the New York marathon. Think about how sore his muscles were...his breathing was very fast, as was his heart rate. Have your vet do the multitude of tests on your dog to rule out epilepsy. This was finally determined that my baby has epilepsy. I can help make sure he won't have any more by taking his medication. oh sure oh sure hi my friend, my English is not so good but anyway i will try to help you with my experience with this breed i have a two am staff, a male and one female, the male is 9 years old, and the female is 4. my daughter with one year and for months is together with them and she kick the dogs, pull his ears and tails, go over them as a horse and they love her too much, any way i am always taking precaution on that but they like to play with her, those breed likes to play hard, and my dog's are very protective with my dither when somebody out of the family come close to her. so that's my experience with this great breed. i hope this information can help you. hi my friend, my English is not so good but anyway i will try to help you with my experience with this breed i have a two am staff, a male and one female, the male is 9 years old, and the female is 4. my daughter with one year and for months is together with them and she kick the dogs, pull his ears and tails, go over them as a horse and they love her too much, any way i am always taking precaution on that but they like to play with her, those breed likes to play hard, and my dog's are very protective with my daugther when somebody out of the family come close to her. so that's my experience with this great breed. i hope this information can help you. Its def not to late but this is the time you want to start him tease him with the scent of the animal you are wanting to hunt. you could also run him with a dog that already hunts its the best way but don't over do it cause he could start relying on another dog. that's just wrong It sounds like you have a great dog on your hands if she's quiet and friendly with strangers. If you want a dog that is territorial and aggressive, it sounds to me like this sweet little dog got stuck with a BAD OWNER My Carolina Dog sheds a lot. If he walks through the sunlight you can see fur flying off of him. He has a very fuzzy undercoat but does not smell like dog, does not get greasy, and doesn't need bathed very often. I have an AKC registered Lhasa and his front paws are webbed. It's the only breed I've ever owned. This one is the first one I've ever seen with webbed paws. The more I research it the more I find some pure breeds do and some don't . Hellenikos Poimenikos has two basic variations depending on it's size. Over the years and because of the mixing with other dogs, today we have the medium sized and the large dog. The large type survived basically on the mountains where it was difficult to mixed with other types of dogs. These large dogs (mastiffs), are the dogs that today we call in general hellenikos poimenikos, (they are sheepdogs), but more specific they are called the molossos of epirus. The roots of these dogs origins from king Pyrros breed. Hellenikos Poimenikos has two basic variations depending on it's size. Bordoodles vary in the amount of shedding. Almost all shed less than their Border Collie counterparts, but a lot depends on the strength of the poodle genes coming through. They can range from moderate shedding to non-shedding. About 5 puppies in one litter. Hi, have you tried talking to steve and sam okewell? they are breeders of the eurasier and are very very helpful. They are based in swindon.... if this is not an option for you i know a wonderful 'dog whisperer' my father had a dog that was very dog aggressive and she had him mixing with 5 other dogs with no aggression in 20 mins, she is fantastic her number is 01392811723 her name is trisha, try her i dont think you will be disappointed yes They don't shed any more than humans do. They have hair, not fur so they are not shedders and are, for most people, hypoalergenic. standard poodles don't have weepy runny eyes, your pup is probably wormy, treat it for round and hook worm with pyrantel pamoate, and if it's had fleas get praziquantel pills for tape worm. standard poodles don't have weepy runny eyes, your pup is probably wormy, treat it for round and hook worm with pyrantel pamoate, and if it's had fleas get praziquantel pills for tape worm. From my research i have found they are bred from English bulldog, Mastiff, Pit bull and American bulldog wow thats crazy...my current male english mastiff now almost months old just weighed in at 121 lbs. and still growing. something is not right. lioj My walker hound is fin with our cat. But I had the cat first and the cat is surely the alpha in our house. My walker hound is fine with our cat. But I had the cat first and the cat is surely the alpha in our house. My walker hound was also a previous outdoor only dog. it took him a bit to be comfortable around stair and he housebroke like a dream. not always. I have a Shorkie that has a long tail, but some of her litter mates had curled tails. I have a 3 year old and she is very picky at eating also. She used to eat only human food as my husband was a chef and he cooked for her every day. Unfortunately he passed away unexpectedly so my puppy had a rough emotional time. I switched her to ceasars wet food but I must cut up marble cheese and mix with her food for her to eat. She will eat only when she feels like it. Sometimes three times a day or one. She is very healthy and weighs 18 lbs. However, she will eat people food every time you give it to her including fruit. We have a female mastador and raise pygmy goats and llamas. Our dog is very gentle with the animals, and especially loves the babies. The llama crias love her and snuggle up with her whenever they get the opportunity. She loves to clean their little faces, and they don't mind. Even the very protective mama llamas are tolerant of her. The goats don't trust her, but then she is HUGE compared to them. I paid 300 for mine! My pug tzu can shed IF I take the #3 clippers to him. His pug like hair will start to shed, but if the overcoat is left longish, its minimal shedding. My one yr old shorkie loves all my nieces and nephew they r all age range oof 1yrs-8yrs old. My shorkie has never ever bitten any of them or stranger. And other dogs unless she. Had to protect herself if she was in pain. It could be an allergy to food as my Daxie ha wheat and gluten intolerance which caused a lot of skin irritation. Switch to a hypoallergenic food and see if there is an improvement. I would take him to the vet, especially since it is making him sick. It's possible that it could be allergies and it is the drainage that is making him sick and if it is allergies, dogs can be given Benedryl, but with a pup so young and so small, you would need to be sure to give him the right dosage, so you first need to make sure that it is just allergies and not something more serious...then if it is allergies, make sure what dose of Benedryl is the proper dose to give the baby to avoid an overdose. I agree with the previous poster. Something that looks like a simple skin irritation can be more serious than it appears. It can be mites, a staph infection, or even worms (there is a type of worms that migrate out through the dogs skin)~Some of these things can be transmitted to other animals in the home or even to humans, so it is always best to take the dog to the vet to be sure. I expected my Cocalier to shed a lot more than he does-it isnt bad at all as long as yoiu groom them often. We have a 1.5 year old Puggle. She does bark at us sometimes and then gets into the "let's play" stance (head and front lowered with rear up). She is just letting us know that she wants us to chase her. She is just letting us know that she wants us to chase her. I have a BichPoo. They are hypo-allergenic. They do not shed, very sweet and loving dogs. Mine does however bark a great deal. wouldn't trade him for nothing. if it's for a woman get a male and a female for a man. Mine does but she's being playful and the bite doesn't break skin. She it very territorial and super protective of my mother and I. We have an older dog that's a pit and she is super lovable to her but I wouldn't necessarily have her around kids. However I have no problem taking her over to a friend or family members house. She loves people and other dogs but she needs to be the center of attention or she tends to grow a bit jealous. She takes cues from me so when I'm getting agitated that's when she gets protective. Though she has never bitten anyone in an aggressive manner she is a bit mouthy (she nips to get attention and to tell someone to back off). Besides her mouthiness she is the most loveable dogs and she's perfect fit for my home. When I leave my parents house she will also be perfect because the Chipin breed is very adaptable to apartments and smaller housing conditions. She is super sweet and always wants to be either in my lap or right next to me. My vet said at least a year old. Awww the poor baby may have skin allergies. I recommend seeing the vet they will prescribe some ointment or pills to help alleviate the scratching. My mom has a male cat and we have a female female min schnoxie. We visit them once every 3 months or two. They first met when Febee ( our schnoxie)) was a couple months old and they played like two cats or two dogs would. The cat was bigger then her then. The next time they seen each other febee was bigger then Izzy and it was several months after and they played great together. Yes! Ours had straight hair and around 10 months it started curling. He has a super curly undercoat and straight outer coat, except the top of his head and front of his chest is all Curley. We have a Twelve week old female who was diagnosed with a "almost palpable" heart murmur two days ago. Cost of surgical treatment appears to be prohibitive so we will make her as happy as we can as long as we can. Apparently respiratory infections are also a part of this diagnosis as well. No one knows how long any pet will live so don't be afraid to love. doug We have one, 10 months and does not drool. Only issue is ear cleaning which need reg attention but overall the ear cleaning is not that bad. Overall a great dog! I got an 8 wk old australian sheprador and have watched him growth as he is now 6 months old. At 8 wks it often seemed as though he was just learning to walk and he slept the vast majority of each day until he got to be about 10 to 11 wks when he started being awake more and wanting to play. As my puppy is very healthy I wouldn't worry too much the moment. Hope this helps. There is a breeder in North Carolina. She calls them Westscott Terrier. If you google that, the Blackcreek Kennel. I have three and a yorkie. It is common for them to play by biting legs and mouths. They have never been so rough as to hurt each other though, Pretty comical to watch actually. I have had good results with Spring Time supplements for years, both w/dogs & horses. Both skin & breathing problem products really have worked for me. I also have a Cockalier and have friends who also have the breed, it is common for Cockaliers to form very strong bonds with people and they can get separation anxiety easily. I crated my dog while she was very young and she isn't as bad with her anxiety now, but yes they do form very strong bonds and will tend to have anxiety or depression if the person they've bonded with isn't around I have two of them and one is about 25 lbs and 30 lbs and they are 6 yrs Have you considered running blood work on your dog? Some pets can develop hyperthyroidism which will make your dog want to eat and continue to loose weight. Check with your veterinarian for more information. It is completely normal for mommy dogs to lose a lot of fur. Both Shelties and long hair chihuahua mommies lost their lovely locks for a while, but it comes back just as full within a year. Blessings It is completely normal for mommy dogs to lose a lot of fur. Both Shelties and long hair chihuahua mommies lost their lovely locks for a while, but it comes back just as full within a year. Blessings I have a 7 month old female schnoodle, I love her more than you can image. We live in the country so a leash was only used with my dogs when we went some where. Not any more. Dani (my schnoodle) is not allowed out the door unless she is leashed. To answer your question, honestly in my opinion, No. These dogs are too smart, they know when they are off leash. They also know that they can run circles around you. (She does every chance she gets.) When I read how easy the breed is to train I thought "cool, finally a dog I can get to listen to me" well she listens alright then she judges how far away you are from her in comparison to the neighbors cat...... if she thinks she can get to that cat before you get to her she bolts. If she could vocalise and run at the same time she would be laughing at me. Yes, we are still training, and so far she's a quick study, potty training was basically a breeze. sit, stay & fist bumps instead of shake with both front paws took less than 20 minutes. I really don't think I will ever be able to say "go potty" and she will do her thing and comeback to me if there is anything remotely interesting going on outside. Two of my cats just lay down when she shows interest in them (inside or outside) the third one however runs and you can image the rest of that story. I'm building a fence these days and I have a cable run, but I can't ever image leaving her alone outside for more than a few minutes. I can see her brain working. Sometimes I fear she is smarter than anyone else in my family. Including the humans.I still love her way too much My My daughter alternates between cooked chicken and cooked ground beef-both have been easy on their sensitive tummys Bordoodles can either shed or not shed. www.borderdoodles.com can help you pick out a bordoodle puppy that will likely NOT shed and be hypoallergenic. Mountain Rose Borderdoodles www.borderdoodles.com NEVER FEED PUPPY FOOD to a saint bernard puppy or any giant breed puppy ex. newfoundland, german shep, malamute it has to much protein. Only feed adult dog food only 26% protein or lower 62 days average Our breeder said that the Mother, the St. Bernard parent, had the "pockets" in her gums which prevent excessive drooling, which some St. Bernards have a problem with. You should ask your breeder about that. We do refer to ours as "slop head" after she drinks water because it does get in her beard and on her giant "block head!" lol We had the most beautiful Chocolate Lab. We had to have him put to sleep last spring and even to this day it still hurts so much. My boy followed me around from 6 weeks old until he was 16 years of age. He was the most wonderful understanding sweet boy anyone could ask or. I know he is still with me in sprit and if there is Bridge for them to cross he will lead the pack and great everyone as they cross the bridge. why does german shepherds work so hard My Chipin is the same way, I believe that it is just the way they are, they have a very fast matabolism so they need to be fed several times a day not just once. I walk my year old for 4 to 6 miles five times a week and he runs around my house afterwards like he was never walked. Just feed him and don't give a ton of treats. But don't worry. |
