Standard Poodle Q&A

We have just adopted a wonderful Great Dane who is 3 yrs. old.. He has the best personality and has had training. My concern is that he has scars all over his back side, has a bloody spot on his foot and the tip of his ear. And is very skinny. You can see all of his bones. I need to know what I should be feeding him to get him fatter and how much to feed him so he won't get sick. Can anyone help me? Thank you Karen

Great Danes don't generally over eat. I would treat him like a puppy (since it sounds like he may be malnourished) and feed him 3x a day. At 3 years old, he should easily eat 9 cups of food a day. If he isn't healthy, he may not. Just offer 3 cups at a time and let him eat what he wants. Unless he gets sick, he will be fine. Diamond Premium adult dog food is generally a good food for Danes. Talk to your vet. Good luck!
