Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a dog and was considering a few breads which include a whippet. I have 2 children age 12 and 5 a reasonable size garden and access to a local dog friendly park with plenty of open space. We are looking for a friendly, calm dog at home but with plenty of fun and energy when out and about. (chasing balls, Frisbee etc...) Someone is at home 6 out of 7 days a week with the exception of 1 day where we are both at work and children in school (around 6-7 hours). Would this be a suitable bread for us? Any other advice gratefully received.

Sounds like the perfect breed for you! I have a whippet x kelpie, she looks and behaves more like a pure whippet. She is maternal with my toddlers, loving, affectionate and very easy to train. They love energetic play almost as much as they love snuggles on the couch. I say go for it!

whippets need lots of attechen they love to run and play they can be agresive thouhg they are beatiful dogs with geart spirits they do like do run and so they might run off keep an eye on them when in a not fenced in yard
