What is the difference between a shih tzu and a lhasa apso?

It is said that the Lhasa Apso was bred with the pekingese, creating the shih tzu. The Lhasa Apso has the longest nose, and the pekingese the smallest. The Shih Tzu is medium.


I recently read that the Lhasa Apso is a purebreed that came from Tibet. At some stage the Dalai Lama gave one to a Chinese Emperor who owned Pekinese. The Emperor then mated the Pekinese with the Lhasa Apso and there you have the Shih Tzu. I makes sense as all 3 have different length nose, the Lhasa's being longest, the Pekinese being the flattest and the Shih Tzu in between.


I have both breeds I assure you they are very different in many ways. The Lapso is much larger,lapso have a outgoing personality where the shih Tzu is a lap dog wanting always to be held ond picked up.
